Kirtan&nbsp;is part of Naada Yoga or the Yoga of Sound. It is a Sound meditation in which we are using the most powerful instrument that we have - our own voice. In Kirtan we are sharing together uplifting and high energy charged words, mantras, stories and songs about the Divine in whichever way we may understand it and name it. The ocean of consciousness can be named differently in many traditions, religions and paths but it is all translated to the same viberation in our hearts - Love. By using ancient languages and sounds, we&nbsp;are&nbsp;joining old generations. We&nbsp;are&nbsp;joining their intentions to connect to the Heart of Creation, Divinity, God, Goddess, That&nbsp;which&nbsp;perhaps has no name, but&nbsp;is&nbsp;within each and every one of us and longing to be touched and awaken. Kirtan is traditionally sang in a Call and response manner when the leader is calling out and the Sangham (the crowd) is repeating. We are learning the mantras together through repetition.&nbsp; What is&nbsp;Cacao Ceremony? For thousands of years different culures all over the world&nbsp;have considered cacao as a sacred plant with healing properties. Not only was cacao used in ceremonial settings but it was also renowned as a medicinal plant that aids in the healing of and opening up of the heart&#39;s circulation. Because of its heart opening qualities cacao is a perfect pairing with meditation, yoga, dancing, and different therapies. It facilitates greater connection to other people and to yourself. She will also demonstrate the plastic entrapment method she will be using for her workshop on Wednesday 6th November and show some finished examples. This will entail some layering of fabric, soldering and free machine embroidery and some ideas regarding ways of displaying the finished piece. 

Nikki taught art for 30 years to secondary school children, and having left full time work in 2016 , has been providing talks, demonstrations, summer schools, workshops to schools, groups and societies. She is a member of various art and textile groups.
She exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. Sketchbooks are for more than just sketching! In this series of workshops, we&rsquo;ll explore ways of using a sketchbook to experiment, research, and develop your own creative ideas, leading you towards developing your own unique body of work. Incorporating drawing, painting, collage, writing, and crafting, this workshop will get you trying new things in a small, welcoming group all summer long.During the live Zoom sessions, we&#39;ll try out specific ways of using your sketchbook to develop creative ideas. You&#39;ll also have a chance to share what you&#39;ve been working on, and be inspired by the work of others (sharing is encouraged but always completely optional). In between live sessions, we&rsquo;ll fill our sketchbooks up with writing and images prompted by a series of creative assignments which will have us out exploring the natural and built environment (although many of them can also be completed from the comfort of home).Each participant will be encouraged to deepen their explorations in whatever direction interests them most - be it a series of written reflections, sketches, collages, photographs, mixed-media pieces, or a unique, personal combination of all these.This small-group course includes six live sessions (via Zoom) with Julie, and &lsquo;homework assignments&rsquo; for participants to complete in between live sessions. There will be an optional Facebook group for participants to stay connected and share their creations with each other between sessions. You are welcome to join in from any place in the world. The group will be kept small to ensure plenty of opportunities for interaction, sharing, and feedback.

You’ll get an insight into how our January-start degrees are taught, how you submit work and how you can develop your skills. This course has been designed to help you feel equipped to commence your studies in January 2025, on one of our January-start degrees.

Experience a live lecture from Jason Hirons, our Course Leader for Distance Learning. This interactive session will give you a preview of what it's like to be part of our dynamic online distance learning course, engage with course content and ask questions in real time.

Session 3 - Wednesday 18 December 2024, 3 hrs / 8:45am - 11:45am
Enjoy an informative and engaging session led by the Adam Levi, our Senior Learning Technologist and all-round expert in tools for digital education. In this session, you'll gain valuable insights into navigating Canvas, our online learning platform, ensuring you feel confident in managing your coursework, accessing resources, and participating in discussions. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in an interactive workshop designed to enhance your learning experience.
As a student on one of our January-start degrees, you’ll join a truly global community of creative learners. This hybrid degree allows you to complete your first year of studies remotely by July 2025, before taking a short summer break and then continuing straight on to the second year of your chosen degree, studying in-person at our city-centre Plymouth campus, in September 2025.
