<p>This 5 full-day course will focus on geological fundamentals: how different basin types differ in subsidence mechanisms, basin cycles, heat flow through time, depositional systems, structural styles and their type of petroleum systems. This will allow participants to make realistic interpretations in new areas; interpretations that are consistent with the specific basin type and to be expected depositional systems and structural styles. </p>
<p>In addition, through simple paper-based exercises, the course will provide background and understanding of how some of the typical PBE products are made: creaming curves, Field-size plots and Yet-to-find. Finally, the essentials of commercial assessments will be covered.</p>

<p>Your expert course leader has a PhD in Geology from the University of Utrecht. He worked for 31 years (1979 -2010) with Shell as an exploration geologist in a variety of functions across the globe. As Principle Technical Expert, he was responsible for ensuring that Risk &amp; Volume assessments were carried out consistently and correctly in all of Shell's exploration units.</p>
<p>In this capacity, he led and participated in countless prospect review sessions and developed and conducted a successful in-house course on Risks &amp; Volume assessment. As manager of the Exploration Excellence Team, he performed in depth analysis of basins and plays and provided advice on exploration opportunities to senior management. Together with his team, he visited most of Shell's exploration offices, working hands-on with Shell's local exploration teams to generate new play and prospect ideas and to suggest evaluation techniques and technologies to apply.</p>
<p>In 2010, he was appointed as extraordinary professor Regional and Petroleum Geology at the VU university of Amsterdam and in 2012 also at the University of Utrecht. He was visiting professor at the University of Malaya (Malaysia).</p>
<p>Through his own consultancy, as of 2010, he provides advice on exploration activities to several companies and is regularly invited to carry out technical reviews. Activities cover all continents and include Portfolio Reviews, Prospect assessment, Play-based Exploration, and Geothermal activities.</p>

<p>The prospect maturation process, from a lead to a drillable prospect, is at the heart of the exploration business. This 5 full day course will cover all aspects of the prospect maturation process: play understanding in the context of regional geological understanding, detailed prospect evaluation; realistic risk &amp; volume assessment consistent with the play understanding and prospect details, and an introduction to exploration economics.</p>
<p>Throughout the course, there is a strong focus on pragmatic (geo)logical approach for assessing those aspects that are input parameters for a meaningful assessment of prospect risks and volumes, with emphasis on a balanced integration of contributions from different sub-surface disciplines. Many examples from basins from around the world are used to illustrate how traps, reservoirs, seals and charge occur in different basin settings.</p>
<p><strong>Specifics topics that will be discussed include the following:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>The statistical fundamentals for risk and volume assessment will be presented, with practical exercises for understanding the results of a risk &amp; volume assessment as they are displayed in expectation curves.</li>
<li>The difference between risk and uncertainty.</li>
<li>A full discussion of the essential requirements for a working petroleum system: Trap, reservoir, seal and charge.</li>
<li>Examples of how traps, reservoirs, seals and charge work in different basin types around the globe and in Australian basins.</li>

Eli Keren started his publishing career at Curtis Brown before joining United Agents as an assistant in 2016. In 2021 he became an associate literary agent, representing a growing list of clients across fiction and non-fiction, actively seeking books that are going to make a positive impact in the world in some way, big or small. His role as an agent at Curious Minds Literary Agency began in 2024. Before working in books, Eli was a research scientist designing and synthesising novel drugs (white coat and everything), and science books remain a particular passion of his. Our intention for the Wild Finca Online Rewilding Retreat is to help you strengthen your connection with nature. We achieve this by enhancing your knowledge of the natural world and offering both inspiration and practical suggestions on how to incorporate the concept of ‘Rewilding’ into your own life.
Course Structure:

Week 1

Session 1: Introduction to Wild Finca Habitats
Date & Time: Wednesday 2nd October (9pm CET)
- LIVE with mini film inserts (an intro to the different habitats we have here, and a Q&A about habitats near to you)
Pre-recorded Mini Film:
- Introduction to the different habitats at Wild Finca.
- Visual tour showcasing various ecosystems.
Live Component:
- Q&A session about habitats near you. Participants can share information and ask questions about their local environments.
Objectives:
- Understand the variety of habitats at Wild Finca.
- Learn to identify and appreciate your local habitats.


Session 2: Wildlife at Wild Finca
Date & Time: Friday 4th October (9pm CET)
- LIVE with mini film inserts (the wildlife we have here, migration and local fauna)
Pre-recorded Mini Film:
- Presentation on the wildlife at Wild Finca.
- Focus on both migratory species and local fauna, highlighting unique behaviors and adaptations.
Live Component:
- Interactive discussion on wildlife spotting tips and ethical wildlife observation.
Objectives:
- Gain knowledge about the diverse wildlife at Wild Finca.
- Develop skills for observing and identifying your local wildlife.


Session 3: Agri-Rewilding Process

- Tips on creating wildlife-friendly spaces in urban and rural settings.

- Workshop on designing personal rewilding projects and sharing ideas.

- Empower participants to implement rewilding practices at home.
- Foster a community of rewilding enthusiasts.


Session 6: Treasure Hunt Review and Closing
Date & Time: BONUS session Sunday 13th of October (9pm CET)
- LIVE a review of everyones Treasure Hunt (NB You will recieve the Treasure Hunt on Sunday 29th of September. The Treasure Hunt is specifically designed to get you outside and engaging directly with the natural world, as well as creating opportunities to put your learning into practice). 
Activity:
- Treasure Hunt: Participants will receive a list of items to find over the two-week period. Items may include specific plants, animal tracks, insects, etc.
Live Component:
- Review of Treasure Hunt findings.
- Identification and discussion of items found.
- Closing remarks and feedback session.
Objectives:
- Encourage hands-on engagement with nature.
- Provide a fun and interactive way to reinforce learning.
By the end of the retreat, you'll not only have deepened your connection with nature but also gained actionable insights to bring the spirit of rewilding into your own environment.
