SOLD OUT! 11th September Liza DeBlock #Agent121. Looking for: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Liza represents a range of fiction and non-fiction. On the fiction side, she is looking for historical fiction that is well researched, immerses readers in the era, and looks at overlooked characters from the past, or perhaps gives a new spin on someone we think we know. On the literary and upmarket side, she is looking for novels infused with emotions that capture the human experience and make readers think. If your literary novel is something at A24 productions might turn into a movie, this is Liza’s taste. When it comes to fantasy, she loves urban and grounded fantasy (no sci-fi please!), and is always happy to look at anything with a vampire, werewolf, witches, warlocks, fairies, and perhaps a sinister selkie or two. She is also very much looking for romantasy and is the best person at the agency to submit that too. For thrillers, send her anything set in an exotic location, high-concept, or things with a speculative twist. She loves when characters are put in situations she would never want to be in, and then they have to get out of it. Her recent favourite fiction includes: Notes on an Execution, Lady Macbethad, Hamnet, A Discovery of Witches, House of Earth and Blood, The Starless Sea, Piranesi, Our Wives Under the Sea, The Pisces, Such A Fun Age. When it comes to non fiction, she is looking for books that teach her something new or reframe a topic from an alternative point of view. This can include cookery, pop science, and social history. Liza’s recent favourite non-fiction include: The Five, A History of Art Without Men, Messalina, The Authority Gap, Finding The Mother Tree, Cook This Book, Dessert Person. Liza would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 - 2 page synopsis and the first 5000 words of your manuscript in a single word document.  (In addition to the paid sessions, Liza is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. You also agree to email your material in one document to reach I Am In Print by the stated submission deadline and note that I Am In Print take no responsibility for the advice received during your agent meeting. SOLD OUT! 12th September Tanera Simons #Agent121. Looking for: ADULT FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION Tanera has worked in the publishing industry for ten years and, after seven years as a literary agent, co-founded Greenstone Literary with Laura Heathfield. Tanera's authors are based both in the US and UK and include Beth O'Leary, Sally Page, Mandy Baggot, Sophie White, Ally Zetterburg, and Emma Steele. Collectively, her clients' work has been adapted for television and film; received Nielsen Bestsellers Awards; and featured on the Sunday Times Top Ten List in both hardback and paperback. Tanera is looking to acquire commercial fiction across a wide range of genres, including rom-com, love stories, historical fiction, book club, romantic fantasy, and female-driven narratives with a darker edge. Across all genres she is always looking for very clear hooks; a pitch that can be easily summarised and leave readers wanting more. She wants to see stand-out, memorable characters whose journeys readers can’t help but invest in. Having recently re-watched DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES Tanera would love to find an author who writes bold, dramatic twists; cul-de-sac friendships and heartbreaks; and shocking secrets. The depiction of female friendships throughout fascinates her, and she would love to read anything that tackles this theme in such a compelling and vivid way.Within rom-com, Tanera reads and acquires widely in this space and will always be interested in anything that provides a fresh take on existing tropes. Whether this is highlighting modern themes and issues in a historical setting; or subverting the expected when it comes to character, Tanera would love to find new voices in this space. She wants to champion more diverse writers in this space, too, and is a big fan of Lauren Ho and Casey McQuiston’s work. She is on the look-out for an epic love story: particularly one that spans and/or transcends place or time (or both!). She loves a strong sense of place in a novel – such as WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING, OUTLAWED, WELCOME TO GLORIOUS TUGA – and would love to find a love story in which the setting plays a central role. When it comes to darker fiction, Tanera enjoys domestic suspense, thriller, and psychological drama. Please do think of her for any female-driven novels in these genres; or stories in which there is a focus on the characters, dynamics, and psychology, rather than police procedural. Books she loves in this space include STRANGE SALLY DIAMOND; LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE; and THE ONLY ONE LEFT. Tanera would love to find more historical fiction that centres on character and plot, such as WEYWARD and A MORE PERFECT UNION. She has long enjoyed Lucinda Riley’s SEVEN SISTERS series and would love to find an author who writes present/past fiction in a similar way. Her focus on family across time and generations fascinates Tanera, and she would also be keen to read anything that explores family in a more sinister way: focusing on themes of obsession, secrets, and even wealth – such as in SUCCESSION.Other go-to authors include: Emily Henry, Jodi Piccoult; Gillian Flynn; Kristin Hannah; Lauren Ho; and Rebecca Yarros. Tanera would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your completed manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Tanera is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. SOLD OUT! 13th September Clare Wallace #Agent121. Looking for: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA Clare Wallace joined the Darley Anderson Agency in January 2011 and is building both the Darley Anderson Children’s Agency and the Darley Anderson Illustration Agency lists. As chief talent-spotter, Clare loves to discover memorable new characters, bold and unique voices, strong concepts and gripping storytelling. She represents picture books, middle-grade, teenage and YA. Clare is particularly looking for funny chapter books for younger readers at the moment, as well as contemporary MG, YA fantasy, romance, and rom coms, especially with underrepresented protagonists. Whatever the age range, Clare loves a big hook, a lot of heart, and a standout voice. For picture books she has the widest taste, from daft to lyrical, rhyming to prose. If your submission doesn’t fit a description here, it doesn’t mean Clare doesn’t want to receive it. She often doesn’t know what she’s looking for until she finds it (although she is not the person for steampunk or space opera). Her list gives a good indication of her taste. The clients Clare represents include Perdita & Honor Cargill, Caroline Crowe, Tom Ellen, Martyn Ford, Stewart Foster, Olivia Hope, A M Howell, Polly Ho-Yen, Rachel Ip, Beth Reekles, J.P. Rose, Lindsay Galvin, Dave Rudden, Deirdre Sullivan and Efua Traoré. Clare would like you to send a covering letter, a one page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5000 words) of your manuscript. For picture books, please submit a covering letter and up to three completed texts. (In addition to the paid sessions, Clare is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event.
