2 day Portrait Workshop in acrylics inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti&nbsp;&nbsp;Join well known Edinburgh artist and tutor Suzanne Kemplay and model Beth Davison to create a portrait in the style of the pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Expect an atmospheric set and romantic lighting in keeping with the Rossetti&rsquo;s style, with a few modern touches thrown in.&nbsp;&nbsp;On Day 1 Suzanne will give a short talk on how to approach your composition and how to capture the spirit of the artist&rsquo;s technique. You&rsquo;ll plan and sketch out a drawing in the morning before moving on to painting in the afternoon and on day two.&nbsp;All materials are supplied (or feel free to bring your own) and the class is kept small to ensure everyone gets some individual attention. 
This course is most suited to those who have some drawing experience but we welcome beginners. Over 14s only.
The workshop will run from 10 - 4pm on 1 and 2 April.

We'll meet in the centre of Edinburgh at the Grassmarket where we'll say a quick hello and jump right in. I'll explain a little about the settings on your camera so that you'll hit the ground running and get some great photographs of this amazing city. From the Grassmarket we'll move on to get photographs of the incredible Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile Cockburn Street. The tour is tailored to your ability level and is aimed at beginners wishing to use manual mode. We will cover white balance, exposure, composition etc and I'll aim to get you comfortable in taking your photography to the next level. You'll get a good walk, but most importantly some great photographs and the skills to start developing your own style.
Social Distancing will be adhered to as per Scottish Government guidelines to keep us all safe.
We'll start in the Grassmarket at The Vennel where there is a well photographed view of Edinburgh Castle - from there we'll move up to Victoria Street for a romantic view of the colourful street below . Working our way down some of the Royal Mile, we'll visit some of the quaint alleyways. We'll carry on down and take in the outside of St Giles Cathedral, the High street and Cockburn street. Old slate can form the perfect base for a garden mosaic, hanging from the shed or balancing on a border. Bring new colour and interest into your garden with your very own bespoke design using vitreous glass, old china and sea washed glass!In this workshop you will use a reclaimed slate base to make a gorgeous mandala mosaic. You will be shown how to cut china and vitreous glass and you can also include sea washed glass and glass nuggets as part of your design. We will embed the tiles into an adhesive mortar mixture (an alternative method to gluing &amp; grouting). ​This photo tour usually starts in Edinb8rgh Old Town but as it is a private tour this can be adjusted to suit your needs. It starts off by instructing you how to get the best out of your camera if you require this (and skipping it if you don't) and then the emphasis is on capturing stunning photographs of Edinburgh rather than the usual tourist snaps that most people will capture. You really get to see Edinburgh in a different way and with the help and advice of Will who has worked as press photographer, covered humanitarian crises in Iraq, shot covers and content for Lonely Planet guidebooks, covered Fashion week for many years but now concentrates on teaching from his vast skill set.

Learn to make colourful monotype prints without the need for a press. 
In this 3-hour workshop, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art.&nbsp;We&rsquo;ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps.
We&rsquo;ll then take our completed prints and use them to create unique greeting cards.&nbsp;You will take home a set of up to 10 hand-printed, one-off greeting cards with envelopes. Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.&nbsp;
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, plus light refreshments (a selection of Shibui teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet or savoury snacks). On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out; or there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, caf&eacute;s, and restaurants, plus supermarkets, within a 5-10 minute walk.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. The workshop space is in our home which is&nbsp;not&nbsp;nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.
Private classes
Most of our workshops are also available to book for small private get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and as in-store retail events. For larger groups, many of our workshops can be brought to a location of your choice. 
Age restrictions
Our workshops are planned with adults in mind. Many are suitable for teenagers, but some may require under 16s to be accompanied for insurance purposes. Please check with us before booking.

Learn to make colourful monotype prints without the need for a press. 
In this 3-hour workshop, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art. 
We’ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps.
We’ll then take our completed prints and use them to create unique greeting cards. 
You will take home a set of up to 10 hand-printed, one-off greeting cards with envelopes. Or if you prefer, you can take your prints home to frame, to create collages or to use for mixed media projects.

Cyan Clayworks is an artist-run, non-for-profit studio and teaching space. This two hour workshop is aimed at adult beginners who would like an introduction to making ceramics. Firstly you will be able to make and decorate an unique set of handmade tiles using coloured slips; creating colour, pattern and texture. Each person will be introduced to wheelthrowing; we will take you through the basics of each stage and everyone will make a small pot each. Your pieces will be finished, fired and glazed for you ready to collect a few weeks later. Like all our courses, class sizes are limited so lots of hands-on support. The price is &pound;45 per person, inclusive of booking fee, materials, preparation, glazing and firings.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 each) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

Our Route to Competency Masterclass - Live Blood Sessions can only be completed in a classroom environment. This is included when you book a classroom option. When booking the virtual classroom option you can choose to add this at time of booking. You will receive a voucher code to enable you to book onto any upcoming dates or locations. For most of our two day course we run our competency training at the end of the second day and therefore you should be able to complete your full training programme with us over two days.

This 4 week online Course is suitable for complete beginners and improvers who would like to learn to paint in Watercolour. PART 1 - THEORY (ONLINE)

M01 - Basic Phlebotomy - revision:
Recap of basic phlebotomy theory and practice - precursor to
the advanced course.
M02 - Aspirated and Vacuated Systems:
Open systems (Syringe & Needle), closed systems (Vacutainer & Monovette), Alternative closed systems, Using Monovette - aspiration and evacuated techniques, monovette adapter systems.
M03 - Specialised and Advanced Phlebotomy Equipment:
The centrifuge - overview. Safe operation and use. Managing a centrifuge breakage or spillage.
Equipment and practices in unusual situations.
Patients with special needs and requiring specific attention.
Equipment preparation for blood samples that are collected at
0 degrees, 37 degrees C and other non-standard conditions.
A look at advances in technology and how to use the latest devices.
M04 - Point of Care Testing:
What is POC Testing? Advantages, Disadvantages and Clinical
Outcomes. Comparison of POC with lab testing. 10 common POC tests. Roles for phlebotomists performing POC Tests.
M05 - Neonates and Children:
Sample collection from new-born to pre-adult. A detailed overview of legal principles of law including child consent and child protection for phlebotomists. Neonatal and child blood collection equipment.
A comprehensive look at heel and finger-prick procedures including
microtainers, lancets and capillary tube collection. Detailed heel prick procedure. Paediatric finger prick collection. The life-threatening hazard of over-collecting. Communication techniques in differing age bands.
Consent and the law. Basic principles of lawful consent for neonates and paediatric patients. Child protection.
Detailed analysis of neonatal and paediatric blood collection including Guthrie card collection. Neonatal bottles - colours and tests. Paediatric blood gases collection.
Butterfly needles - when to use. Blood tests during pregnancy. Neonatal blood screening - nine conditions covered. Bilirubin in neonates.
M06 - Geriatric Patients:
The challenges of phlebotomy in older people. Understanding skin changes and venepuncture implications. A profile of common
geriatric blood tests. Age related problems. Procedural precautions.
M07 - Special Procedures:
Drawing blood from back of hand. Drawing blood from lower limb veins. Managing the unwilling or difficult patient. Managing the psychiatric patient. Managing the isolated patient. Non-routine blood tests. Managing the latex allergy patient (type 1 and type 4 reactions). Latex indicators. Sample handling - non-routine procedures. Drug trials and research projects.
M08 - Special Tests and Sample Handling Procedures:
A look at sample collection at specific times of day and night,
samples that are protected from light, collected on ice and
collected at body temperature. Procedures for each group - collection notes, analytic time, optimal collection time and notes for each group.
M09 - Advanced Phlebotomy Tasks:
Additional procedures. Maintaining POC equipment. Stock control and stock rotation. Quality control. Data entry. Product evaluation. Training and competency evaluation.
M10 - Alternative Environments:
A step-by-step look at non-clinical phlebotomy environments including private testing, DEFRA, forensic and police, cord blood collection, DNA analysis, veterinary services, overseas and volunteering.

- Classroom - health & safety briefing, schedule overview.
- Virtual Classroom - audio/visual checks and registration. Unpacking and overview of your training kit.
2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.
