<h2><strong>About this Training Course</strong></h2>
<p>The drill string is the simplest piece of equipment in use on a drilling rig and at the same time, the most critical piece. We use the qualifier 'basic' because although 99% of the drill string comprises plain tubes that are just screwed together, the lowest section, just above the bit, can go to extreme loading and is fitted with highly sophisticated electronics packages providing both positional and lithological data as well as a steering system to drive and orient the bit.</p>
<p>The principle tasks of the drill string are also deceptively simple. These are to:</p>
<ol>
<li>Convey each drill bit to the bottom of the hole and then to retrieve it when worn,</li>
<li>Act as a conduit to convey drilling fluid at high pressure down to the bit and</li>
<li>Transmit torque from surface to bit, occasionally in concert with a hydraulic motor to drive this bit.</li>
</ol>
<p>This 3 full-day course will cover in detail what it takes to decide on minimum drill string specifications, which are able to support the loads to which it will be subjected. In addition to the need to use a drill string with minimum strength requirements, we also need to ensure that we can prevent drill string failure. If the failure consists of a small split or leak of any kind, then the time involved may be little more than that required for a roundtrip to change the bit. If the string parts, then the recovery is likely to take a considerable amount of time. In a worst case scenario, the fish in the hole may prove impossible to retrieve, requiring a sidetrack.</p>
<p>A less than optimal design of the string will reduce the efficiency of the operation and almost always leads to premature bit wear. This is particularly true when we are unable to measure and control the dynamics of the drill string as a whole and the bottomhole assembly in particular. Axial vibrations, torsional vibrations and lateral vibrations may take place in various degrees of severity. The behaviour of the drill string while operating under torsional vibrations is thought to be of great importance and may result in torsional buckling.</p>
<p>This course will also cover the drilling optimization limiters, how to identify them and how to remove them. This is done by understanding the drill string dynamics - by operating under the most favourable conditions and by measuring the dynamics in the vicinity of the bit (or at the bit) in order to make timely adjustments.</p>

<li>Critical dimensions of common drill pipe and weld-on tool joints and its relation to yield for calculation of tensile, torsional and burst resistance.</li>
<li>Make-up torque of connections that relate to the tool joint dimensions and the torsional strength of that connection.</li>
<li>Use of design factors and safety factors on tensile and torsional strength in relation to new and worn state. Conditions which could lead to drill pipe collapse.</li>

<li>Mechanism under which hardbanding would induce casing wear and the methods applied to measure and prevent any significant wear.</li>
<li>Drill pipe inspection methods we apply to identify early flaws/cracks/corrosion, to measure dimensions, to inspect tool joints etc.</li>
<li>Common BHA components, including heavy wall drill pipe, their external/internal dimensions, connections (API, proprietary) and appearance (such as spiral).</li>
<li>Significance of thread compounds to ensure the correct make-up torque is applied.</li>
<li>Significance of drill string/BHA 'neutral point' in the context of drill string component failure.</li>
<li>Basic design principles for a BHA make-up in a vertical, low/medium deviated and highly deviated well in terms of weight transfer and drag/torque.</li>
<li>Stabilization principles for a pendulum (vertical), a stabilized (vertical or tangent), a build and a drop-off assembly.</li>
<li>BHA design and stabilization in relation to mitigation/elimination of vibration and to the elimination of tension, torsion or fatigue failure.</li>
<li>Matching bit aggressiveness, gauge length, BHA stabilization, steerability and Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) to mitigate the severity of any vibration.</li>
<li>Bit efficiency and reduction of wear by understanding mechanical and hydraulic limiters. How to perform a passive or active drill-off test.</li>
<li>Importance of being conversant with API 7G RP and/or equivalent data books, to look up/check the recommended tensile/torque and other parameters for the drill string in use.</li>

<p>Your expert course leader has over 45 years of experience in the Oil &amp; Gas industry. During that time, he has worked exclusively in the well engineering domain. After being employed in 1974 by Shell, one of the major oil &amp; gas producing operators, he worked as an apprentice on drilling rigs in the Netherlands. After a year, he was sent for his first international assignment to the Sultanate of Oman where he climbed up the career ladder from Assistant Driller, to Driller, to wellsite Petroleum Engineer and eventually on-site Drilling Supervisor, actively engaged in the drilling of development and exploration wells in almost every corner of this vast desert area. At that time, drilling techniques were fairly basic and safety was just a buzz word, but such a situation propels learning and the fruits of 'doing-the-basics' are still reaped today when standing in front of a class.</p>
<p>After some seven years in the Middle East, a series of other international assignments followed in places like the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Turkey, Denmark, China, Malaysia, and Russia. Apart from on-site drilling supervisory jobs on various types of drilling rigs (such as helicopter rigs) and working environments (such as jungle and artic), he was also assigned to research, to projects and to the company's learning centre. In research, he was responsible for promoting directional drilling and surveying and advised on the first horizontal wells being drilled, in projects, he was responsible for a high pressure drilling campaign in Nigeria while in the learning centre, he looked after the development of new engineers joining the company after graduating from university. He was also involved in international well control certification and served as chairman for a period of three years. In the last years of his active career, he worked again in China as a staff development manager, a position he nurtured because he was able to pass on his knowledge to a vast number of new employees once again.</p>
<p>After retiring in 2015, he has delivered well engineering related courses in Australia, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Thailand, India, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, The Netherlands, and the United States. The training he provides includes well control to obtain certification in drilling and well intervention, extended reach drilling, high pressure-high temperature drilling, stuck pipe prevention and a number of other ad-hoc courses. He thoroughly enjoys training and is keen to continue taking classes as an instructor for some time to come.</p>

The Commissioning Management System (CMS) of combined cycle power plants is covered in detail in this course. This includes all the commissioning procedures and documents, purpose of commissioning, responsibilities, system description, organization, working parties, test teams, documentation, testing and commissioning schedules, test reports, safety, plant certification, and plant completion report.</p>
<p>The course provides also a thorough understanding of all the commissioning requirements for gas turbines, steam turbines and auxiliaries, generator and auxiliaries, electrical equipment, switchgear equipment, switchgear and transformers.</p>
<p>All the stages of the commissioning procedure are covered in-depth in this course. <p>Your specialist course leader has more than 32 years of practical engineering experience with Ontario Power Generation (OPG), one of the largest electric utility in North America. He was previously involved in research on power generation equipment with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at their Chalk River and Whiteshell Nuclear Research Laboratories.</p>
<p>While working at OPG, he acted as a Training Manager, Engineering Supervisor, System Responsible Engineer and Design Engineer. During the period of time, he worked as a Field Engineer and Design Engineer, he was responsible for the operation, maintenance, diagnostics, and testing of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, motors, transformers, inverters, valves, pumps, compressors, instrumentation and control systems. Further, his responsibilities included designing, engineering, diagnosing equipment problems and recommending solutions to repair deficiencies and improve system performance, supervising engineers, setting up preventive maintenance programs, writing Operating and Design Manuals, and commissioning new equipment.</p>
<p>Later, he worked as the manager of a section dedicated to providing training for the staff at the power stations. The training provided by him covered in detail the various equipment and systems used in power stations.</p>
<p>In addition, he has taught courses and seminars to more than four thousand working engineers and professionals around the world, specifically Europe and North America. He has been consistently ranked as 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' by the delegates who attended his seminars and lectures.</p>
<p>He written 5 books for working engineers from which 3 have been published by McGraw-Hill, New York. Below is a list of the books authored by him;</p>

Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection

This autumn, we will be going back to exploring fundamental functions and relationships within our selves and our movement through the Feldenkrais Method, encountering classic lessons and discovering new ways to understand ourselves in action.
Each week we will encounter a different function or aspect that is key to our sense of being able to move with ease and freedom through our lives. For instance, we will explore our ability to turn through our spine, to round, extend or bend, as well as enlarging our repertoire of possibilities - looking to move with pleasure and reversibility. 
The first few lessons will explore Fundamental Functions. There will be an early 'half-term' the week of 17th Oct, and then the following weeks we will move through a series of outstanding Classic lessons, that will be useful to return to for yourself.
Audio recordings of each class are available afterwards, so you don't have to attend the class in person, if you can't make that evening.

She particularly like epics that dip into big, universal themes such as grief, climate change, or war and which ask impossible questions in the vein of R.F. Kuang or N.K. Jemisin. Those were favorites for her as a teenager but she wants new takes&ndash;&ndash;LGBT characters, diverse backgrounds, complex character development and a deep-dive into what it means to be a teenager in the current world. Give her relatability that doesn&rsquo;t sacrifice a character&rsquo;s unique traits. She is looking for the middle ground between the manic pixie dream girl and the buttoned-up character who just needs to take off their glasses.</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">In&nbsp;<b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">New Adult</i></b>, Isabel is a big fan of authors like Elle Kennedy, C. W. Farnsworth, Elsie Silver and Morgan Elizabeth. BookTok romances are the perfect escapism for readers of all ages but especially for college students and young professionals like myself. Her all-time favorite tropes are Grumpy/Sunshine, Fall First/Fall Harder and all the Spice! She is not a fan of cheating storylines, accidental pregnancy, step-sibling romance or unnecessary miscommunication tropes.&nbsp;</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Romantasy</b></i> &ndash;&ndash; Send her romance with sufficient fantasy worldbuilding. The romantic plot should be the main event but the worldbuilding needs to be able to stand up to scrutiny. The reader should accept the customs and specifics of your fantasy without too much confusion. Recent titles Isabel has loved include <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Fourth Wing</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">League of Gentleman Witches</i>.&nbsp;</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" id="isPasted" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">As for the romance, Isabel loves tropes (especially: Enemies to Lovers, Who Hurt You?), morally grey characters and kick-ass heroines. She loves training montages and dueling as foreplay. Show her spice during high-pressure situations, quick kisses stolen in battlefields, and fantastic banter. She would also love a return to the paranormal romances that dominated the 2010s. Think the 2020s twist on <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Twilight</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Beautiful Creatures</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Shiver</i>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Vampire Academy</i>. Isabel is most definitely on the hunt for Romantasy and paranormal romance featuring queer and underrepresented voices.</p><p style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><b fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;"><i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Fantasy</i></b> &ndash;&ndash; The worldbuilding absolutely must be believable and purposeful. Fantasy should be a mirror held up to the real world, offering a differing perspective that allows us to examine something about ourselves or our lives in a new light. Isabel has a masters degree in Fantasy from the University of Glasgow so can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to this! The magic/training/military school trope has been nearly exhausted, so be creative with the setting. Her favorite fantasy author is Tamora Pierce - she would love a &ldquo;girl has to pretend to be a boy to get her knighthood&rdquo; storyline that Pierce couldn&rsquo;t do in the 80s such as LGBT representation (although Alanna was definitely gender fluid and Kel was 100% ace), a deeper dive into the social and political implications (no white saviorism!) and more spice. Some of her other favorite fantasy novels include <i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Howl&rsquo;s Moving Castle</i>,&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Good Omens,</i>&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Kindred</i>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<i fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Golden Compass</i>. Isabel does not want Tolkien-esque hard worldbuilding with 100k+ quests; instead focus on the pacing and how it can grab the reader. She wants a fantasy plot that compels me to keep reading even if it&rsquo;s past her bedtime! She adores fairytale retellings, dark fantasy, alternate histories and historical fantasy, and the occasional steampunk/dystopia.</p><p style=" color: rgb(122, 122, 122);" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(122, 122, 122);"><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); box-sizing: border-box;" fr-original-style=" color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">When not working, Isabel can usually be found reading or wandering a bookstore. Born to two bibliophiles, Isabel Lineberry could not have grown up to be anything else. She was born and raised in the Southwest United States but always knew she wanted to move to the UK. In high school she set her sights on a job in the publishing industry and hasn’t blinked since.

Those were favorites for her as a teenager but she wants new takes––LGBT characters, diverse backgrounds, complex character development and a deep-dive into what it means to be a teenager in the current world. Give her relatability that doesn’t sacrifice a character’s unique traits. She is looking for the middle ground between the manic pixie dream girl and the buttoned-up character who just needs to take off their glasses.
In New Adult, Isabel is a big fan of authors like Elle Kennedy, C. W. Farnsworth, Elsie Silver and Morgan Elizabeth. BookTok romances are the perfect escapism for readers of all ages but especially for college students and young professionals like myself. Her all-time favorite tropes are Grumpy/Sunshine, Fall First/Fall Harder and all the Spice! She is not a fan of cheating storylines, accidental pregnancy, step-sibling romance or unnecessary miscommunication tropes. 
Romantasy –– Send her romance with sufficient fantasy worldbuilding. The romantic plot should be the main event but the worldbuilding needs to be able to stand up to scrutiny. The reader should accept the customs and specifics of your fantasy without too much confusion. Recent titles Isabel has loved include Fourth Wing and League of Gentleman Witches. 
As for the romance, Isabel loves tropes (especially: Enemies to Lovers, Who Hurt You?), morally grey characters and kick-ass heroines. She loves training montages and dueling as foreplay. Show her spice during high-pressure situations, quick kisses stolen in battlefields, and fantastic banter. She would also love a return to the paranormal romances that dominated the 2010s. Think the 2020s twist on Twilight, Beautiful Creatures, Shiver or Vampire Academy. Isabel is most definitely on the hunt for Romantasy and paranormal romance featuring queer and underrepresented voices.
Fantasy –– The worldbuilding absolutely must be believable and purposeful. Fantasy should be a mirror held up to the real world, offering a differing perspective that allows us to examine something about ourselves or our lives in a new light. Isabel has a masters degree in Fantasy from the University of Glasgow so can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to this! The magic/training/military school trope has been nearly exhausted, so be creative with the setting. Her favorite fantasy author is Tamora Pierce - she would love a “girl has to pretend to be a boy to get her knighthood” storyline that Pierce couldn’t do in the 80s such as LGBT representation (although Alanna was definitely gender fluid and Kel was 100% ace), a deeper dive into the social and political implications (no white saviorism!) and more spice. Some of her other favorite fantasy novels include Howl’s Moving Castle, Good Omens, Kindred and Golden Compass. Isabel does not want Tolkien-esque hard worldbuilding with 100k+ quests; instead focus on the pacing and how it can grab the reader. She wants a fantasy plot that compels me to keep reading even if it’s past her bedtime! She adores fairytale retellings, dark fantasy, alternate histories and historical fantasy, and the occasional steampunk/dystopia.
