This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended our beginners Silver clay taster or Introduction to silver clay jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.
On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh&nbsp;jeweller and silver clay specialist Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery-making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.
This is the perfect follow-on&nbsp;to&nbsp;the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It&rsquo;s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces&nbsp;for yourself, or as gifts&nbsp;for friends.&nbsp;
We will begin by&nbsp;designing and making&nbsp;stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you&rsquo;ve learnt previously.&nbsp;We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:

Jenny owns and manages The Scottish Soapworks. She offers a range of hands-on soap and skincare making business courses which usually last from one to three days.
The length of course you need will depend on how many products you want to make, and the level of support you need with developing and marketing&nbsp;your&nbsp;brand.
On the one-day course you will cover up to two soap or skincare making methods in detail including: ingredients; suppliers; equipment; safety issues; recipes and essential oils. On the two and three-day courses you can cover more products including: traditional&nbsp;cold process soap; organic glycerine &#39;melt and pour&#39; soap; shampoo bars; liquid soap; and, other skincare products such as hand and body cream, or lip balms.
You will go away with a bespoke pack of information including details of suppliers, legislation on creating recipes, and practical hints and tips.&nbsp;Jenny&#39;s business courses are&nbsp;arranged at a time to suit.

From propaganda to advertising, posters are a ubiquitous, powerful vehicle to take a message to the masses. Over four weeks, learn how to approach poster design in a creative and practical way. Although some computer work will be introduced, it will only be used as another production tool, participants will be encouraged to experiment with analogue techniques such as collage and hand-generated type. You will learn about the history of poster design; learn to use aspects of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; develop approaches to letterform and layout. The emphasis of this course is on the development of a set of posters from research and design through to output.Week 1: History History of Poster Design: Looking at significant and famous posters from around the globe and their impact on society. Practical activity: After a quick introduction to InDesign we will recreate one of these posters, studying the component parts and their relationships to one another. Homework: Think of a concept for your design. What is it for? Who is your target audience? Where and how will it be displayed? Select a favourite poster to bring in or discuss with the group in week 2.Week 2: Image We will begin by discussing participant posters they have brought in to share and look at positives and potential negatives within the designs. Image selection can be a key factor to the success of your poster campaign. We will think about the choices between photography and illustration looking at examples of how this is done successfully. Think about the different ways we can generate and use images. Practical activity: Consider what medium the image might be and how it can be created. Learn about flatbed/film scanner for potential use in image creation.Week 3: Fonts We will look at how typography impacts designs and the messages that it can convey by itself. Consider various approaches to how we can generate type. How typographic selections work alongside selected images. Practical activity: Work through a few typographic workshops thinking about how typographic choices will alter the message you are trying to convey. We will consider various ways and techniques of creating type for our poster. Homework: Developing your typographic solution further, if required. Work through variations of layout.Week 4: Output Continue working on our posters making final tweaks and selecting the poster that is our most successful design for output. We will look at the various formats for output and how we prepare our posters for print. Look at usage of different poster sizes &ndash; why use one over the other?? On this fun, workshop with local artist Lucy Wayman, you will learn how to make a macram&eacute; plant hanger which can also double as fabulous hanging storage with the addition of a fruit bowl or jewellery pot!
With hands-on help from Lucy, you will learn the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, and will build your confidence making small keyring designs. Using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines, you will then create your hand-crafted hanger.&nbsp;
You can also bring along items you&#39;d like to incorporate into your design, such as beads, jewellery and found objects such as twigs to make it truly personal.Lucy will provide you with a&nbsp;helpful instruction manual to guide you through your project, which you can take home to remind you of the knots you learned.&nbsp;

Discover the magic of mosaic making&nbsp;with Jacky Cox of Mossy MosaicMosaicing fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Jacky works with a variety of materials including glass, recycled crockery and natural materials like slate and sea glass, and finds the whole creative process from sourcing to creating absorbing, relaxing and mesmerising.&nbsp;On this 3 hour session, Jacky will help you create two mosaic items using methods you can do at home. You will begin by designing creating a grouted drinks coaster, and while this is drying, you will design a beautiful hanging heart using vitreous (&#39;swimming pool&#39;) tiles. This short course will help you take your images from the screen to final professional-quality prints. We will walk through the processes and techniques needed to take the mystery out of this often daunting and overlooked part of the creative process.By the end of the day you will have gained the skills and confidence to take digital files through preparation in Photoshop, optimisation, and onto physical test printing, adjustments and final output on Stills&rsquo; large format Epson inkjet printer. We&rsquo;ll cover areas critical to the desired outcome including screen and print calibration, paper choice and ICC profile use. By the end of the day you will have two A3 prints on premium Hahnemule matt or gloss papers.Participants should have a basic understanding of Photoshop and attend with a selection of their own RAW files or high resolution TIFFs to work with through the practical exercises.Morning We will begin with evaluating our images and processing the file to maximise print quality output. We will then use Adobe Bridge, Adobe Camera Raw &amp; Adobe Photoshop for the optimisation process. Participants will be guided in preparing their images ready for test printing, before evaluating and adjusting. Discussion will cover using ICC profiles, screen and print calibration, colour rendering, canvas sizing, and sharpening for final print output on various media.Afternoon We will then put the skills we have learned into practice, producing and evaluating test prints before undertaking our final A3 digital inkjet prints. Join artist Julie Galante for this course designed to nurture your creative practice. Together we’ll explore ways to create work that reflects your individual interests, passion, and point of view, no matter your experience level. The course content is delivered over six live Zoom sessions, in a small, welcoming group with plenty of opportunities for interaction. Additionally, there will be optional (but highly recommended) assignments to complete in between the live sessions - assignments designed to get you stuck in to your creative practice in new and interesting ways.

- Treasure Hunt: Participants will receive a list of items to find over the two-week period. Items may include specific plants, animal tracks, insects, etc.

- Review of Treasure Hunt findings.
- Identification and discussion of items found.
