The Health Creation Alliance

the health creation alliance

London

Health Creation Alliance is a Community Interest Company, limited by guarantee and regulated by the CIC Regulator. It is called The Health Creation Alliance C.I.C. Company number: 11536588. The directors are Merron Simpson, Dr Brian Fisher, Peter Hay, Lynne Bowers, Alex McCraw, Tele Amuludun, Neil McGregor-Paterson and Donna McLaughlin. Our ambition is to develop the democratic role of our active members, involving them more in decision-making. Recruitment of our new Chair An opportunity to help steer, shape and develop a values-led dynamic, networked organisation to realise its full potential and purpose as a movement for Health Creation. To apply please download an application pack here. This contains much more information about THCA, what we are looking for and how to apply. The Health Creation Alliance (THCA) is in the process of identifying and recruiting a new Chair to lead the organisation over the next 3-6 years and beyond. This follows our current Chair, Dr Brian Fisher’s announcement at our Annual Member Meeting in May, that he will be standing down. Brian has led the organisation over the last four years to its current position of impact and influence: THCA has been instrumental in influencing change on the ground, across systems and at national level and as a result, our profile has increased considerably. We are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Chair who can offer fresh leadership and steer us through the next phases of our growth and development. As the newly empowered Integrated Care Systems are starting to understand how Health Creation can guide whole-system transformation from the bottom up, THCA wants to fulfil its purpose as a national ‘go to’ alliance spreading skills and know-how and enabling professionals across sectors and systems to become equipped to confidently address health inequalities and create the conditions for people and communities to live in good health, through Health Creation. We have many of the elements in place, a significant profile and are gaining ground. Building upon everything we have achieved so far our new Chair will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to take the org

West (Women In Engineering, Science & Technology)

west (women in engineering, science & technology)

London

WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers like engineering.Wendy Miller “I was the first full-time female student to study engineering at Sheffield College. After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! There is a world of opportunity out there for young women and we are missing a lot of talent.” Pat Morton (Chair) Pat Morton (Chair) “I spent 20 years in the construction industry as a surveyor and another 20 years in Higher Education working in equality – particularly gender equality – in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and built environment. When Ros Wall died we wanted to do something active to remember her. She was a real activist so we decided to set up WEST and support a cause dear to Ros’s heart.” Saj Parveen Saj Parveen “I undertook a foundation course in engineering at Sheffield College / Sheffield Hallam University, followed by a degree in engineering, and then a postgraduate certificate. I’m now a senior lecturer in mechanical design engineering. I love developing and inspiring the next generation of engineers and especially keen to see more women becoming engineers, which is why I got involved with WEST.”

Sharon Gisbourne Yoga

Redditch

I have practised yoga for over two decades and was totally hooked after my very first class. It was a complete revelation! I walked out of that class like I had woken up and seen things clearly for the first time. My whole body felt free, I was relaxed and could not get over how great I felt. I remember going to work the next day and telling a colleague that I felt "big" (in a good way). This feeling was my energy being released to flourish from whatever trapped state it had been in. My passion for yoga grew as did my personal well-being, and in 2005 when I was given an opportunity to teach, I jumped at the chance. I completed my yoga teacher training with The Devon School of Yoga and then went on to qualify as a Yoga Therapist, certified by Real Yoga, in 2012. I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC). I am also a Meditation Teacher, having completed my training with Swami Saradananda. I have attended many short courses and workshops with Yoga Campus, London. These courses have been based around many aspects of yoga, the musculoskeletal system and the "correction" of bodily imbalances, which may be prominent due to general wear and tear or injury. I have also completed courses on restorative and relaxation practices, Pranayama and the history of yoga as well as a short Sanskrit course! I teach several general classes online via Zoom and offer in person or online one or two to one sessions at Sharon Gisbourne Yoga. I also run a specialist online chair based class for those who may need a more adapted approach to yoga. Working therapeutically with people one to one online may not be suitable for all conditions, but if you would like further details see the Yoga Therapy page for more details. I have experience of many styles of yoga and have spent time in India to gain knowledge of these various approaches. I like to apply myself with a holistic and eclectic approach that takes in not only the physical but also the more subtle aspects that yoga has to offer. However, although I always present myself as professionally as possible, I do like to keep everything light hearted and have fun at the same time. I have completed my training with Sheila Whittaker and I am now offering sound therapy in the form of gong baths. These are offered as private sessions and I also run group sessions. See the treatments page for further details of how to book.
