ECA has always been a place of experimentation and collaboration, celebrated for enabling students from different disciplines to work alongside and with each other, and for creating strong linkages with other institutions. We trace our history back to the Trustees’ Academy founded in the 1760s which, over the course of the next century, operated from some of the most iconic buildings in the city, including the University’s Old College and what is now the Royal Scottish Academy. The first Professorship in an ECA subject area was created for Music in 1839 in the name of John Reid, with the Watson Gordon Chair of Fine Art founded some forty years later, the first of its kind in the British Isles and a turning point in the teaching of the History of Art. Following the establishment of the Reid Concert series in 1841, which continues to this day, the Reid Concert Hall was built in 1859. We’ve been known as Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) since 1906, following a major reorganisation of higher art education in Scotland. At the time, we were governed by the city Council and divided into four Schools: Drawing and Painting, Design and Crafts, Architecture, and Sculpture. We moved into what is still our Main Building in 1909, when the first of our annual Revel parties took place and, by 1913, our Cast Collection had been installed in the Sculpture Court.

Through representation and lobbying, the ECA actively leads on key issues including safety, training, qualification and technological development. The ECA fully support Recolight, and recommends to their members that they join the Recolight collection network. ALL-PARTY PARLIAMENTARY SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE GROUP – (APSRG) The APSRG is the leading forum informing the debate between parliamentarians, business leaders and the sustainable resource community. The Group’s mission is to provide an objective platform for effective communication between policy-makers, businesses and organisations with an interest in the sustainable resource management agenda. The APSRG organises a regular programme of focused parliamentary events, conducts detailed policy research projects and provides in-depth parliamentary monitoring and analysis. JOINT TRADE ASSOCIATIONS Recolight is a guest participant in the Joint Trade Associations (JTA). The JTA is an alliance of nine of the UK’s main trade associations representing the electrotechnical industries, including LIA, EEF, AMDEA, and TechUK. The JTA was formed to represent the views of EEE producers to Government and the market regarding producer responsibility obligations, including the WEEE Regulations. JTA is an unincorporated body and is not a legal entity. THE INDUSTRY COUNCIL FOR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT RECYCLING – ICER Recolight are a member of ICER, an industry body that represents the WEEE sector. Members include producers of electronic and electrical equipment, compliance schemes, waste management companies, treatment facilities and recyclers. It is the forum for industry to work together with government and regulators on WEEE policy and implementation.

ZZEUS Training is headed by Tom Brookes who runs a successful award winning fire protection company and is also the Chairman of the Fire and Security Association, the specialist division of the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA). Tom has been training fire alarm engineers since 2002 both the theory and legislation and also on a practical level. He is a leading figure within the fire alarm industry, currently sitting on eight British Standard Institute committees, being involved in writing and updating BS5839-1 since 2006 and giving him a clear understanding of the standard rather than an interpretation. All training has been developed for engineers by a practicing fire alarm engineer and not academics, therefore using vast experience and a logical mind to solve fire safety issues and faults within commercial buildings, transferring this into the program of study and practical training. Many of the engineers trained by Tom have gone on to successful self employment, managing fire companies and going forward with the skills to pass the brand new EAL Level 3 BS5839-1 examination as well as passing the BAFE third party assessments to SP203. Training is carried out in our purpose built training rooms installed with fully working fire alarm panels and attached Apollo devices for your practical training. ZZEUS Training provide EAL Recognised and approved bespoke training and examinations for electricians & fire alarm engineers at our specially designed training centre. Our qualifications are equivalent to European Qualification Framework (EQF) Level 4.
