After graduating in French and Linguistics from York St John University, I taught English in Athens before becoming an English tutor. It was satisfying to train some wonderful people and teams. They included a senior member of the Portuguese Air Force, food scientists from a global FMCG company and engineers from gas turbine manufacturers. For IT and fintech industries, we focused on Financial English. But it was obvious that interpersonal and intercultural training could also help businesses. I worked with companies to develop conference call skills and improve meeting protocols. I loved co-writing Working Virtually – a handbook on how effective communication can be used to ease the challenges of remote work. In Africa, I enjoyed delivering language and communication workshops. This included helping an airline crew comply with international safety standards. I also spoke at international conferences in Prague and Frankfurt.
