OUR MISSION The European Institute of Peace designs and delivers sustainable peace processes and agreements. We provide practical experience, technical expertise and policy advice on conflict resolution. Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, we combine the operational flexibility of an independent organisation with the diplomatic reach associated with our board and our proximity to the European Union. Our vision is a world where people live in safety and peace because conflicts and grievances are resolved through inclusive dialogue and lasting political agreements. We live in increasingly complex times, marked by demographic shifts, emerging sources of political power, technological innovation, climate change and growing inequality. More coherent and sustainable approaches to conflict resolution and prevention are needed. The EU and European actors have a vital contribution to make, drawing upon their global reach, political and economic heft and commitment to human rights. The European Institute of Peace is uniquely placed to increase understanding of conflict resolution, and to increase the ability to respond effectively.

The Findhorn Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust continue to address the issues facing our rivers and the wildlife that depends on them. Our FNLRT Management Plan 2021 details the diverse range of projects we are planning to help conserve and restore our river catchments. Over the course of the last two centuries removal of natural forests, overgrazing and changing land use have significantly degraded the ecosystems of our rivers. Moreover, we now face a climate crisis which is causing increasing global temperatures and dramatically changing weather patterns. These factors combine to present a very serious threat to wildlife in the catchment of our rivers, particularly to salmon. This demands our urgent attention and to tackle this we are delighted to launch the Findhorn Watershed Initiative. Through this ambitious initiative we seek to bring the River Findhorn Watershed’s communities, landowners, businesses, farmers, land managers, local authorities, and educational institutions together to work at nature’s scale to sink carbon, restore habitat, and mitigate the impacts of the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss for future generations. These are global threats, which require large scale programs and significant funding to begin to reverse the trends. The Trust recognises that we have an important part to play to ensure that our river catchments benefit from these initiatives. To be effective, projects will need to be coordinated at a scale beyond that of individual land holdings. A natural unit for this coordination is the river catchments. We will only succeed if we work in coalition with landowners and local interests, across catchments and with partners who enable scale and additional resources to be brought to bear on these issues. We continue to work with all our friends and partners to make a difference in this important work to improve the quality of our river environments. Since 2017, SF Innovations has worked to promote technologies and products which protect the environment and build resilience to climate change. These range from the use of Haybox Thermal Cookers to reduce the use of fossil fuels during cooking to harnessing Solar Power. PROJECTS In 2018 we launched a project with the EMACE Foundation of Sri Lanka to manufacture and supply 50 each of Solar and Haybox Cookers to low income families. SF provided all the funding while EMACE organised the manufacture of the cookers locally, identified suitable recipients and provided training and literature. In 2019 we went out to work with local charities. Over the last 5 years we have used talks and workshops to promote various energy saving technologies. Some of these have been in association with the Environment Centre at St. Nicks, York and others at various festivals - Green Gathering, Radical Bakers and Festival of Thrift to name a few. Over lockdown, we have used Zoom workshops to reach hundreds of attendees around the UK as well as worldwide.

This means that learning is often outside the classroom and frequently takes place well away from school during carefully planned educational visits. Sport plays a leading part in the life of the school and despite its relatively small size the school's achievement across the range of team games has brought it success at many levels.

The Forgiveness Project collects and shares stories from both victims/survivors and perpetrators of crime and conflict who have rebuilt their lives following hurt and trauma. Photo (left to right): Will Riley, Marina Cantacuzino and Peter Woolf Founded in 2004 by journalist, Marina Cantacuzino, The Forgiveness Project provides resources and experiences to help people examine and overcome their own unresolved grievances. The testimonies we collect bear witness to the resilience of the human spirit and act as a powerful antidote to narratives of hate and dehumanisation, presenting alternatives to cycles of conflict, violence, crime and injustice. At the heart of The Forgiveness Project is an understanding that restorative narratives have the power to transform lives; not only supporting people to deal with issues in their own lives, but also building a climate of resilience, hope and empathy.. This idea informs our work across multiple platforms – in publications and educational resources, through the international F Word exhibition, in public conversations, our bespoke storytelling course and our award-winning RESTORE prison programme. The stories of forgiveness on our website demonstrate that forgiveness is first and foremost a personal journey, with no set rules or time limits.

These unique learning opportunities are available through the collective expertise of a team of artists with extensive experience of delivering art workshops in and around Kent, connecting groups to natural and urban environments across a range of arts disciplines. Our activities also focus on the rapidly advancing impacts of climate change and we are proud to have joined Culture Declares. We are printmakers, painters, writers, textile artists, photographers, film-makers, sculptors, craftspeople, ceramicists, and sound artists. Outdoor Studios provide Full, Half Day and Bespoke workshops and activities, and accept Commissions.
