The Postgraduate Medical Education department (PGME) provides the infrastructure and support to facilitate the education, training and continuing development of health professionals at St Richard’s, Worthing and Southlands Hospitals as part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.As part of the Professional Support Unit, the Specialist Clinical Communication & Linguistic Services offers courses, RCA Practice and individual sessions for all healthcare professionals working in multi-cultural London and KSS. Communicating effectively and confidently with patients and colleagues is key to providing an excellent health service and leads to increased professional fulfilment. Patients respond to and are satisfied by healthcare professionals and teams who communicate well.

After traveling seven seas, both geographically and professionally, Mairi started running Yoga with Mairi classes in central Scotland, in 2018, gradually growing a small but inclusive community of dedicated Hatha Yoga practitioners. Now getting close to 1000 of teaching hours delivered. Mairi started practicing Hatha Yoga 20 years ago, and had an honour to learn from many amazing teachers across the world. Her practice was, however, particularly influenced by the Bihar and Hridaya schools of Yoga, and this orientation led her to discover the Akasha Yoga Academy (Bali/Thailand), where she completed her 200hrs Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. Mairi also holds a First Class Certificate in Philosophy of Yoga, from Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies affiliated to the University of Oxford (2016). Besides that, and somewhat relevant to her teaching, Mairi holds a continental MD qualification from her first degree, and she is a Master of Science in social medicine from her second degree. She also holds a postgraduate qualification in Cultural and Gender Studies. Since her first qualification from the School of Medicine at the University of Belgrade (Serbia), and until recently, Mairi was an academic researcher in social medicine and medical sociology, and for some time, also a lecturer. She was specialising in qualitative research and understanding health and access to healthcare, with a particular interest in complexity theory, holistic health & integrative healthcare. MOVEMENT FACILITATOR Kirstie is a movement facilitator – trained in Pilates, yoga and fitness, and with a background in dance. She brings these different elements together in all her classes. Having grown up with some fairly strict dance training, she loves to throw that out the window and all dancing these days is strictly for fun. “I try not to take it too seriously. Just leave your ego at the door and let yourself truly shine!” “I’m continuously learning, thinking and rethinking – how the body works, how we move and how we can move better. I find the science of breathing, of movement and bio-mechanics and neuroscience fascinating – but equally I love putting on music and just jumping around – that feeling of anything goes. Breathe fully, move often and move well, break a sweat and have fun with it. Building confidence, self acceptance and self love is at the heart of my classes.”
