I’m Sarah, founder and teacher at CRAFT. I opened CRAFT in February 2020, it’s been a dream for sometime to have a space to be able to teach a subject I love so much. I started sewing as a young girl, sewing together scraps of fabric from my mums fabric box, altering clothes and creating new ones. I’ve always been something I have always enjoyed. I graduated with a first class honours degree in Education in 2009. After graduating I took up a teaching post in a secondary school, specialising in textiles and food technology. After having my first child in 2012 I decided not to return to the classroom and started a business making and selling children’s wear from home. When my second daughter arrived in 2016 I decided to start teaching again. I taught in the workshop room at the back of Annie’s fabric shop most weekends. Workshops became popular and from that CRAFT was born. I wanted to create a space that could be used to teach sewing workshops but also could work with other creative areas. I hope that when people visit CRAFT they feel relaxed and enjoy spending time in the workshop space. I really love teaching here. I love sharing my knowledge, my top tips and my expertise. My aim is to give my students confidence and to share my love and passion of sewing. I want everyone to leave feeling excited to start their next sewing project .

Workshop 925 launched in January 2019 and is based at The Mayford Centre which is nestled between Guildford and Woking in Surrey. The workshop was launched by Kirsten Hendrich after several years teaching within adult education facilities, alongside running her own jewellery brand Kirsten Hendrich Jewellery. Kirsten often felt frustrated at large class sizes, the lack of specialist equipment and solid workbenches to allow students to really blossom. So, she began her vision which was to create the perfect learning environment for jewellers of all levels to come and learn new skills using professional equipment, providing the best chance possible for students to learn the technical and business skills of the trade within small class sizes enabling plenty of one to one tutor support to aid effective learning.

Since April 2012, possessing our own workshop, Scarlet's Fairy Folk create unique one-off, original one-of-a-kind, jewelled fairies in different styles, handcrafted with superb materials. Our handcrafted, jewelled fairies are made to order and can be posted worldwide. We also offer beginners fairy making workshops, silver jewellery & basic silversmith workshops for adults or children aged 11+ on a one to one basis or groups up to 15 people. (All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on any of our courses). Our goal is to provide a fun experience whilst learning a new skill. No previous experience is necessary and all tools and materials will be provided. We have Full Public Liability Insurance with Hencilla Canworth Limited and a Full DBS Check Certificate. At our workshops you will be able to create stunning, unique gifts for friends & family and learn a new skill in a non-rushed & relaxing rural environment. We are based near Fleet in Hampshire, close to Junction 4a of the M3, or alternatively at any venue of your choice. Pick ups from Fleet or Blackwater train stations by arrangement. Every coat I have has pockets full of things: I hear shells rattling about with bits of plastic when I pull one on to face the school run, I fiddle with acorn cups while I'm waiting for a flat white in my local cafe; I scrunch up bits of lichen and tangled sea-string while I'm trying to find my gloves. I am and always have been a bit of a collector: not of high value, status-ridden things that you have to be careful with. Just little, curious, quirky things that are everywhere in everybody's everyday life. I just like to pick them up, look at them and put them in my pocket. Then I like to make them into jewellery later… So I make contemporary, definitely eclectic jewellery from found objects (driftwood, sea plastic, sea glass and slate pebbles) combined with semi-precious stones and pearls linked together with chunky hammered eco-silver chains, delicate crocheted fine silver and fused silver focal pieces. I’m lucky enough to live in Cornwall and I love spending time outdoors in the fresh air on local beaches and in the woods, collecting curious things…
