The workplace is changing, and the role that midlife women play in the workplace is changing with it. With women over 50 currently shown to be the fastest growing sector of the workforce, it is inevitable that your organisation will likely have employees working through their menopause transition. Why does this matter? Because the physical and emotional changes that can affect some women as they transition through menopause can create temporary difficulties which may have an impact on performance. Research has shown that as many as 25% of women have considered resigning as a result of a lack of support from their employer. With an estimated cost of £30-35K to recruit a vacant post, not to mention the loss of intellectual capital, it makes sense for employers to actively support their staff through this natural life stage. And it’s not just women either! We need to consider those who don’t identify as cis women but who also may experience the impact of hormonal changes through menopause, that’s basically anyone who has menstruated at any time in their life including trans men and non-binary employees. And let’s not forget the number of people who experience an early menopause due to surgical or medical intervention, they need support too. That’s why at Floresco Training Ltd our primary purpose is to help employers to raise awareness and understanding of this natural, but often ignored and misunderstood life stage, to ensure that everyone feels supported, valued and heard.

CEO & FOUNDER Made his first money in software writing a version of Pacman for the TRS-80. TRS-80! That ten quid didn’t go far though, so he gave up and let everyone else do the work for him. Kind, generous, intelligent, good-looking man. Signs the paycheques. Paul Caley DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Centre of the operation. Banned from his local chip shop because he has to have a finger in every pie. Originally from the Isle of Man so has three legs, no tail, and hates paying tax. Andy Hill FINANCIAL DIRECTOR When he's not on the golf course, or on a grand tour of Europe, or at a black-tie dinner, or entertaining at a major sports event, you'll find him working incredibly hard in his office. Unless he's at lunch. And except in the afternoons and all day on Friday of course, when he's playing golf. It's a tough gig, Finance Director. Ben Dean SENIOR DEVELOPER Like all coders, Ben takes an hour to eat his Alphabetti Spaghetti because he has to finish all the 'A's before starting the 'B’s and so on. Tells jokes like, "There are 10 kinds of people, those who know binary and those who don’t." We once gave him Numberetti so that he could finish his lunch whilst it was still warm. Big mistake. Developers don’t like sudden changes to their routines.

Bike for Good is a charity and social enterprise which started in July 2010 in a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras market. With a few donated bikes, a cobbled-together tool kit and a team of volunteers with a huge amount of passion and drive, Bike for Good (then known as Glasgow Bike Shed) was born! We now have three thriving Community Hubs in Glasgow and an amazing team of 42 staff members and 50 + volunteers who are changing thousands of lives through cycling. As a young family man, stuck in the rat race, I was earning a decent salary but still found myself in debt. I decided to change things around. I dabbled in online blogging, multi-level marketing, online gambling and buying and selling cars. I did well, but it was not something I enjoyed doing all of the time. My time was owned, and I wanted to own my time. Planning for my future was so important to me. I found trading at 24 when a friend introduced hyper scalping to me. We used indicators to trade the 1-minute timeframe and, on average, would catch 3-10 pips at a time. The adrenaline rush was unexplainable. But, it eventually led to blown accounts due to greed. I then moved onto trading binary options. And as always. I was doing very well on the demo account. The second I went live I became complement, my patience wore off and I was just chasing the dream of getting rich quick. I then decided to trade Forex. I was excited by the opportunity it presented. Work from home or anywhere in the world. To be able to own my time, provide for my family, do the things I loved and plan my retirement. Why? The initial investment was small, and the opportunity was limitless. I had no plan or strategy to work with. But after three years of trying everything which included everything from not following a plan to being greedy and chasing money, I decided to take things seriously. It wasn't long before I had my penny dropping moment and realised that trading is more than just chasing the dream, but rather a serious business for serious people, things started to get better for me. Within a few months of me applying myself, I decided to quit my job and become a fulltime trader. My goal is to take the journey I have gone through and impart it onto others who have faced a similar situation as me and cut down your years of learning and making mistakes to a simple yet powerful approach so you can have an opportunity to live the life you have always wanted. That is my life in short. My journey in full will be told one day. Only if you knew!

Liverpool

Only 19% of the digital tech workforce in the UK is female, compared to 37% across all sectors. It’s proven that the gender gap costs the tech sector time and money, but it also contributes to the challenges we have sourcing talent and widens the digital skills gap. Our exploration of diversity Our journey began in 2013, as Liverpool Girl Geeks. We created a community of like-minded people in Liverpool who wanted to progress gender equality in tech. In the beginning we organised meet ups for adults, but we soon realised that we could make a real difference if we mobilised the community, so we began running educational programmes led by industry with the aim of helping minority groups progress. In 2015 we launched our first educational programmes for teens. We recognised that we needed to work with girls as young as twelve to tackle the gender stereotypes that are so entrenched within women by the time they reach adulthood. What we noticed within our first few cohorts of teen girls was the lack of background diversity. Students that attended were from similar backgrounds, with supportive parents who may already work in tech (or a related field), from mostly white families, who could afford to bring their child to the sessions we were hosting in Liverpool City Centre each week. Our Co-Founders are women who have both grown up in low income families and wanted to make sure that our programmes reached girls from different backgrounds. As two (relatively young!) white women, they were also acutely aware that we needed to work with a diverse set of industry mentors to ensure that we had a broad range of people of all ages, backgrounds and identities to inspire the students. This includes working with male role models too, as we don’t want to exclude anyone from our mission. A turning point was at the Big Bang Fair in 2016, where we were exposed to hundreds of schools across the U.K. The students that attended were from different nationalities, ethic backgrounds and a multitude of faiths. We realised that to engage a truly diverse range of young people we had to remove all barriers to them accessing our programmes. Shortly afterwards we rebranded as InnovateHer and took our educational programmes into schools. We prioritised working in disadvantaged areas across Liverpool and Manchester. Since then we have worked with girls from a broad range of backgrounds; including families who are asylum seekers, looked after children, girls in faith schools and girls who identify as non-binary, trans or queer.

Girls That Scuba

girls that scuba

London

Girls that Scuba is a community of inspiring women who are passionate about scuba diving. We range from the scuba instructor, the beginner, the never-put-on-a-scuba-mask, to the full-time ocean activist, and everyone in between. Want to know how we became the thriving online community you see today? Here’s the Girls that Scuba story! 2016 – The Group and Website Sarah Richard was the only woman divemaster working on a boat in Micronesia and she wanted more women to talk to about diving. Finding a lack of spaces online, she made her own. The Girls that Scuba Facebook group was born. Girls that Scuba founder Sarah Richard smiles widely. She is taking a selfie on a boat, wearing a blue whale shark print dive skin. Within 5 months, Girls that Scuba became the largest women’s diving community online! Our content needed a space outside of social media, so we started the Girls that Scuba blog. The website continues to share educational diving articles, equipment reviews, and dive destination advice. 2017 – Girls that Scuba Store The community wanted a way to spot other members underwater, so our mask strap covers became our first piece of merchandise and we launched our Girls that Scuba online store. Over the years the store has grown to include log books, changing robes, DSMBs, passport covers, and so much more! 2018 – Girls that Scuba Trips and Membership As well as bringing divers together online, people wanted to be able to meet other members in person. Who were we to say no? Our first Girls that Scuba Day event took place in Indonesia, and was shortly followed by our first Girls that Scuba trip to Komodo Island. We now host scuba and freediving trips around the world. We also hosted our first ever Girls that Scuba Underwater Photography Contest – the first to highlight women in underwater photography. Allied with dive businesses and travel providers, we created and launched the GTS Membership Card – the first membership of its kind in the industry. The membership continues to offer hundreds of discounts on dive centres, liveaboards and scuba brands worldwide! 2020 – Courses and Ambassadors Whilst the dive industry took a collective surface interval, we collaborated with instructors and marine scientists on a series of webinars and offered sponsored scholarship places on each one. Inspired by our incredible community, we also introduced the world to our first group of Girls that Scuba ambassadors! 2021 – Returning to Travel With dive travel starting to reopen, we hosted 4 international and 5 UK based trips. Our second group of inspirational Girls that Scuba ambassadors stepped into their roles. 2022 – Trips and More Set to be our biggest year yet for events, we will be taking divers on 9 international dive trips and 7 UK adventures! Get Involved The simplest way to get involved with Girls that Scuba is to be part of our online communities! We’ve now grown to over 16 social platforms (more on that below), but it all began with our Girls that Scuba Facebook group which remains at the heart of our community today. Our private groups are a safe space open to women and non-binary people, and any other social platforms can be followed by people of all genders. For the opportunity to join us in person and dive on one of our incredible scuba adventures, head to Girls that Scuba Trips. If you want to share your Girls that Scuba pride far and wide, check out our merchandise on the GTS Store.
