Learn directly from Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer, Georgie Tym as she guides you through designing your own patterns from scratch to create a whole catalogue of 3D shapes for bags and accessories along with a basic introduction to leather crafting skills. Who is this course for? This 5-day practical bag pattern cutting and introduction to leather craft course is ideal for all experience levels, from beginners to confident makers. A perfect introduction into the pattern cutting skills and leather skills you’ll need to create and design your own bag patterns and leather designs. Are you looking to: Start your own bag brand? Develop a foundation in leather crafting skillsIf you've answered yes to any of the above, then this is the course for you. What to expect Join Georgie to learn the basics of pattern cutting for bags with an introduction to leather craft. The course includes a foundation knowledge through to more complex cutting techniques. Looking at 3D shapes and examples from which you can create multiple shapes and details. Learn all the essential skills you will need to begin your leather crafting journey. This is the course for you if you’re ready to turn those bags you’ve been dreaming up and designing into 3-Dimensional tangible reality. Within the course, you’ll also be introduced to techniques and materials suitable for accessories, including sewing on an industrial sewing machine and stitching leather by hand. Upon completing the pattern cutting and introduction to leather course you will take away the knowledge to bring your designs to life. Complete with a set of paper/ fabric mock-ups which can be kept as your reference sample set and leather craft samples you will have your very own library of resources to inspire and generate future ideas. The course covers: * Pattern types and shapes suitable for each construction type * Patterns for details and functionality features * Professional methods and best practice * Basic pattern cutting techniques * Pattern design/ development and sequences * Hands on involvement and demonstrations. * Hand stitching leather and other materials * Machine stitching leather and other materials * Leather tools and machinery * Seam types used in bag and leather constructions * Leather and other materials discussions You will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.  WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE? DIY Bag Kit Leather Rucksack/ Backpack. No specialist tools or experience required. A Leather Bag Kit to Make at Home! This DIY Bag Kit is a step up from the other bags in the range. It is suitable for all, though it is more challenging and takes longer to craft. You will learn the basics of leather craft for accessories and be introduced to techniques including application of wax and edge finishing, screw rivets, hand stitching on leather and bag construction. This is a perfect introductory project to start your journey into Leather work and bag making as you will experience the wide variety of tasks involved in the work and create a bag to be proud of. This is the perfect pack to keep you busy crafting at home when you are looking for a new hobby. In order to complete your bag you will need to follow the step-by-step instructions included in the pack. There will be pre-cut leather pieces which require you to finish with a wax included in the pack. You will rivet and sew the leather to complete the bag. It is great if you have a small screw driver to hand to tighten the rivets.  Although the pack is pre-prepared and work has been completed for you, do not fear as there is still plenty of work and learning for you to do. The bag has a flap and buckle closure and two adjustable back straps. It is a raw edge construction to give a rustic look but completed in a buttery soft vegetable tanned leather which results in a supple but structured piece. The bag is unlined but the size ensures the perfect space for all essentials. The dimensions of the backpack/ rucksack are H:250mm x H:350mm x D:150mm and it will be the same construction as the bag in the photos featured. A drawstring top and flap closure with buckle. Straps are adjustable with buckles. There are NO ADDITIONAL COSTS. All leather, hardware and products will be included in the kit. This course is ideal for all, from beginners to confident makers. You will learn the basics of leather craft for accessories and be introduced to techniques including machine stitching on leather, hand finishing leather, inserting hardware and decorative leather techniques. You will be working with a sustainably sourced lush vegetable tanned leather. This is a perfect introductory or taster course to start your journey into leather craft. In order to complete your purse in a day we will use part pre-cut parts and the purse will be made from a ‘Hands of Tym’ pattern but do not fear there is still plenty of work for you to do. During the day you will be directed by your tutor Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer Georgie Tym to make a ‘raw edge’ ‘concertina’ small leather purse with small internal pocket and a flap closure. There will be one small stud to keep the purse closed and the opportunity to personalise with initials and a small design of your choice. The dimensions of the purse are H130mm x W 95mm x D 10mm and it will be the same construction as the purse in the photos featured. The course will be run from the home studio of Hands Of Tym in Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9DHParking available on the drive with easy access via the M40. Banbury train station is a 30 min walk.
