A mindful, creative embroidery stitching workshop with knitwear designer Maija Nygren.
Hand-stitching is a mindful activity that can relief stress, provide calm from our busy lives and lead to relaxation and a sense of presence.&nbsp;
During this workshop you will be equipped with basic, yet impactful, hand stitching techniques that you can use to decorate a luxurious knitted scarf unique to you. Your scarf could become patterned with beautiful intricate elements, an abstract composition, or perhaps a play with colour by using a range of simple, traditional needlework techniques and a variety of 100% wool yarns.
No previous needlework experience is necessary, the workshop and the materials used are designed to accommodate all levels of crafts people, and provide a creative experience for all.
The scarves are made by Maija in her Edinburgh studio using her elbow-powered knitting machine, with 100% Blue Faced Leicester yarn, raised and sheared in the UK. This wool fibre is famous for its lusciousness, and soft-to-touch feel, with a lovely drape.&nbsp;

Maija will introduce you to a range of basic hand stitching techniques that can be used to create your personalised scarf, and share previous samples she has created for decorative ideas. You will explore and practice stitch techniques using pre-punctured stitch cards, as well as textiles. By the end of your workshop, you will have created a unique scarf decorated with your hand stitching and woollen mark making, ready to wear home with pride.

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh&rsquo;s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.&nbsp;
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, plus light refreshments (a selection of Shibui teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet or savoury snacks). On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out; or there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, caf&eacute;s, and restaurants, plus supermarkets, within a 5-10 minute walk.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. The workshop space is in our home which is&nbsp;not&nbsp;nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.
Private workshop bookings
Most of our workshops are also available to book for small private get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and as in-store retail events. Age restrictions
Our workshops are planned with adults in mind. Many are suitable for teenagers, but some may require under 16s to be accompanied for insurance purposes. Please check with us before booking.

This workshop is designed to take you through making several styles of Dorset button. You&#39;ll start with a crosswheel, the most popular and easiest style to make, and progress through various stitching techniques to make different styles of Dorset ring buttons. You will cover changing threads, finishing techniques, attaching to a garment, and what materials you can use.You will need:&nbsp;4 x 25mm rings; 2 x 29mm rings; 4ply sock yarn or equivelent in two colours; size 18 tapestry materials; snips or scissors. You can use other sizes, and threads if you have them. There are instructions in the course for measuring thread, types of materials ect.
