Multiple Sclerosis Care Training

Overview

Facilitated by registered nurses with first hand clinical experience, this 1/2 day blended learning course allows attendees to demonstrate theoretical and practical simulation within a classroom or virtual environment.

Participants will further their knowledge and skills Overview of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), history of MS, epidemiology and worldwide distribtution, types of MS, factors causing MS, Diagnosis and Treatment, Case Studies, Person-centred nursing management including safety.

Why Is Multiple Sclerosis Care Important?

Multiple sclerosis is the most common cause of neurological disability in young adults. It is a disease of the brain and spinal cord, and a lifelong condition that usually follows a relapsing or progressive course and results in a gradual accumulation of permanent disability. MS causes a multitude of symptoms that affect physical and cognitive function as well as mood; symptoms vary between individuals and for the same individual. Although disease-modifying drugs (DMDs), which can change the disease course, are available for people with active relapsing disease, there is no cure. MS affects every aspect of people’s lives – work, family, social life –and is characterised by unpredictability and variability. This means a holistic approach to care is required to meet the needs of people living with the condition.
