Description

A forest bathing and mindful stargazing mini-retreat in rural Sussex.

Rediscover a sense of belonging and connection through guided practices of wonder and awe, beginning with an immersion into our immediate environment in the forest, and gradually expanding further and further outwards to the edges of the Universe. With forest bathing guide Helena Skoog and mindful stargazing expert Mark Westmoquette.

First we’ll spend some time immersing ourselves in the natural environment through a variety of guided forest bathing practices with Helena. Forest Bathing is the practice of spending intentional time with trees or in woodland settings. You’ll be guided through a series of ‘invitations’ to reconnect with nature, touching on themes including the power of trees; nature for health; nature for happiness; and nature connection in the city.

We’ll then have a picnic together (light supper included). As it gets dark, we’ll begin our practice of mindful stargazing with Mark. Mindful stargazing is not about star maps or using technology. It’s about developing a first-hand, experiential knowledge of what it is to ‘be’ in this vast Universe of ours – not looking up at the stars, but realising we’re in the stars (and actually made of them!). You’ll be guided through a variety of meditations that will take us to the far reaches of the Universe with your feet staying firmly on the ground. If it’s clear, Mark will finish with a tour of the constellations.

Please expect to spend long periods outside and dress accordingly. If in doubt, bring an extra layer!

Note: if the weather is bad, we may have to postpone or cancel the event.

Testimonials:

I thought it was wonderful and that the collaboration of the two practices worked really well. I hadn’t done any mindful stargazing before and loved learning about the stars and the distances etc and seeing the projected images - how incredible it was when the clouds parted and we could see some real stars too!
– Zoe

Firstly a big thank you! We loved the Forest of Stars event. The combination of forest bathing and stargazing is inspired, and it was a great adventure to be out at night, safely in the hands of our expert guides.
– Carolyn & Michael

It really was a marvellous event. I've certainly experienced a permanent shift afterwards. Having most of the experience at night I think really helped me to let go, and keeping the silence really made sure you were allowed the space to make a connection. I think you both really have found something special here. It would be cool to experience different times of day and seasons. I'll certainly be attending again!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We'll only cancel if the weather is really bad - and we'll of course let you know. Please dress appropriately for the weather and expect to be outside for long periods. If it's clear it might be quite cold. If it's cloudy, we'll still be able to practice mindful stargazing outside in the dark and inside with the projector.
