Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a yoga mat?

All mats and equipment are provided for you, but feel free to bring your own mat if you would prefer - yogi's choice!

  • I'm pregnant/I've just had a baby. Is this class suitable for me?

These classes are great for pregnancy, and even better for postpartum. Roo is highly knowledgable and experienced when it comes to exercise for pregnant and postpartum women, and is more than happy to offer support and modifications to give you confidence and support on your pre and postnatal journey. Let's keep you moving safely and confidently throughout your pregnancy, and give you the confidence to take control of your post-birth recovery.

N.B. If you are suffering with pelvic girdle pain (ouch!) unfortunately this is too complex to be catered for in a group yoga class setting, as it requires very specific modifications that will be individual to you. Please contact Roo if you are interested in pursuing private yoga sessions during pregnancy, where you can be fully supported through your movement practise and beyond.

  • What kind of yoga is it?

Not all yoga is created equal! Roo teaches a modern style of yoga that has been developed by a physiotherapist, giving you the highest quality of movement and education for your brain and your body. This innovative method is a smarter, safer, and more effective approach to yoga and movement. Designed to enhance mobility, increase flexibility, and reduce pain.

Every class with Roo contains intelligent sequencing to build you from the ground up, with intentional movement, focused exercises to improve mobility, strength, and balance, guided breath work, and flowing movement, followed by relaxation to close. These classes will leave you feeling centred, energised, and more balanced both on and off the mat.

  • What should I wear? Do I need to bring anything else?

Please bring a water bottle, and wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in - sports kit is ideal. Expect to be moving around a lot on your mat!

You may also want an extra layer for warmth and comfort during relaxation at the end.

Barefoot is highly recommended - ground connection and foot mobility is vital to the quality of your movement. Even grippy yoga-style socks can actually prevent your feet from moving as freely. However, if you are desperate to have your feet covered up, I won't stop you! If you do use any correct-toes/toe spreaders, these are fantastic to wear during your practise so feel free to bring them along!

  • I’ve never done yoga before/it’s been a while! Can I come to your classes?

Whether you are a complete beginner who doesn’t know your knees from your nose, a seasoned yogi with bags of experience on the mat, or a professional athlete who is looking for something to compliment their already existing exercise programme, you will be supported in my classes every step of the way. Classes offer a complete and comprehensive guide from the ground up and always include modifications and structured choices to suit all levels and body types. Many people feel nervous about practising yoga in a larger group setting. If this sounds like you, I also offer private 1-to-1 or small group sessions from my small home studio in Bournville. Contact me to find out more about private yoga sessions.

  • I’m not very bendy, can I do yoga?

Yoga is not about contorting your body into crazy shapes (although that can be fun!). My classes focus less on getting into complicated postures, and more on centering into your core and balancing mobility and strength so that you feel great inside and out. If you’re not bendy, that’s not a problem. Yoga will assist you in relieving tension and gaining mobility in a safe and supported way. In fact, if you’re not bendy, that’s all the more reason to come to yoga!

  • Do men do yoga?

Absolutely! Yoga may be seen as a more “feminine” sport, but more and more men are turning to the yoga mat for a good workout, as well as to relieve stress and support their mental health and wellbeing. In fact, yoga was traditionally practised by men only, and not women! These days, it is very rare for me to have an all women’s class- you almost certainly won’t be the only man in the room.

  • What is your refund policy?

If you cannot make it to a session, please contact Roo as soon as possible so that your place can be taken by the next person on the waitlist. There will be no refunds given for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the session is due to begin. If you have booked a block of sessions, these are for consecutive classes, so sorry, no refunds will be given unless in exceptional circumstances.

  • Can I join a block of classes part way through?

Yes! If you miss the start of a block, but you'd like to join us, you can always book as a drop-in as long as there are spaces still available.

Please book early to guarantee your space and avoid disappointment. Any remaining available mats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis to walk-ins on the day.
