Course Overview:

To increase your awareness and understanding of what safeguarding children means, in order to increase your confidence to enable you to make a positive contribution towards the process.

Course Aims:

• Identify and discuss background and legislation within which children's welfare is safeguarded and promoted and why it is important
• Define safeguarding, maltreatment, and vulnerable groups
• Discuss what children need to support their safety and well being
• Describe key indicators of abuse in line with current research
• Define bullying and the potential effects on children and young people
• Outline policies and procedures for managing bullying and how to support children and young people and their family
• Outline policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young people and how to share information within your work setting
• Outline and demonstrate how to respond and report to allegations of abuse by colleagues, including whistleblowing
• Define the importance of e-safety for children and young people
