Description

This pair of connected sessions is about effective classroom behaviour for all teachers who want to refresh and deepen their skills and understanding in this vital area. The sessions will be based on Patrick Garton's well received book 'Understanding and Developing Positive Behaviours in Schools’ part of the acclaimed series of Essential Guides for Early Career Teachers' and all participants will receive a copy of the book when they book.

These sessions will offer key psychological insights into the factors that lie behind different behaviours as well as practical approaches that you will be able to implement immediately. The sessions will help you understand and manage your own behaviours as well as those of the children and young people you teach. You will gain useful approaches to working successfully with whole groups as well as individual pupils.

We have designed this course to provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on and implement different approaches during the two week gap between each session. The final 30 minutes of the second session will include a live Q&A session for participants to ask questions directly. Participants will therefore gain most from the course if they attend both sessions.

This pair of sessions is ideal for Early Career Teachers and all teachers looking to refresh their thinking about behaviour.

Dates for the sessions are

Monday 16th January 2023 4.00 - 5.00 pm and

Monday 30th January 2023  4.00 - 5.30 pm. To gain the most from this course participants should attend both sessions.

Cost £35 per person and includes a copy of 'Understanding and Developing Positive Behaviours in Schools’ by Patrick Garton

Previous participants in this programme said:

‘Good in depth breakdown of different kinds of challenging behaviour with specific, appropriate strategies.’

‘Excellent training. A group of us from my school are on this course and it's great because we can now discuss as a group with other members of staff,’

Reviews of Patrick’s book:

This is a gem of a book. It demystifies behaviour management in the classroom through a series of reading, reflection and practical tasks, supplemented with case studies, which walk the reader through the theory and practice of positive behaviour management in a way which is entirely accessible and engaging. An essential read for any early career teacher.

Rachael Warwick, Executive Headteacher, Ridgeway Education Trust and ASCL President 2020-21

If only this essential guide had been available when I was an Early Career Teacher, it would have prevented me from falling into the many pit-falls I found myself in. Patrick offers a wealth of practical advice and guidance for developing positive behaviour in both primary and secondary schools. His experience of working with colleagues at all ages and stages of their career has been collated in this easy-to-read guidebook bursting with ideas and advice.
