Description

A practical and realistic discussion on how to take care of yourself whilst also taking care of your children. A webinar with Naomi Fisher and Heidi Steel that will leave you with three things that you can weave into your life right now and a booklet with Five Ways You Can Reconsider Your Self Care.

When our children are younger (by which I mean primary age) we promise them the earth just to meet their needs and make them happy. After all, a regulated child who has their emotional, mental and physical needs met is a happier, healthier child.

We consistently put our own needs to one side entirely so that we can meet the needs of our children. This is really obvious when we are taking care of young babies and toddlers but for many families this continues as their children’s needs are different to a typical child. In fact, arguably those needs become more difficult to meet as they get older.

However, I digress a little, because my point is that we ignore our own needs in favour of taking care of our child. And we are exhausted. We are physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. And part of us wouldn’t change it for the world. We won’t stop putting our time and energy into helping our child. We would make the same choices again, and again, and again.

But it would be nice to do those things for our child and not be at the point of exhaustion.

And I know that there is no time for me time. I’m not even going to suggest it. It’s unrealistic and not an option.

But let's take a moment to look at how you can take care of yourself, what your needs truly are, and how to meet those needs alongside taking care of your child.

Dr Naomi Fisher, clinical psychologist and home educating parent to two Self Directed Learners, and Heidi Steel, qualified teacher and parent to four always unschooled learners, share their professional and personal knowledge and experience about the importance of self care as parents of unschooled / self-directed learners and share some ideas of how we might achieve it for ourselves.
