The overview from NOCN Awarding Body:

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hire and Rental Operations qualification has been developed for achievement in a real workplace environment which means you need to be employed to undertake this qualification. This qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work in the Construction, Plant and Plant Tool Hire Sector within the construction industry.

You will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for your occupational area. You will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you complete your qualification. This qualification supports the learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do NVQs work?

The process is as simple as possible, once we have sorted the commercial bits (invoice etc) we ask you to complete a Profiling Questionnaire so we can ensure you have chosen the most appropriate qualification for you.

We then assign you an assessor and set you up on our qualification management system - Quals Direct.

Your Assessor gets in touch with you and arranges a day to visit.  During that visit you will spend a couple of hours reviewing the process and systems and the rest of the visit is spent carrying out an observation of you carrying out normal work.

Your qualification consists of two elements, knowledge and performance i.e. knowing and doing.

We assess your knowledge by asking questions, this is via the online system and through discussion.  We assess performance through a range of methods including observation, work evidence such as job cards, witness statements e.g. your supervisor countersigning documents etc.  The whole process is with support from your assessor.

Once you have made progress on your qualification we revisit you and look to complete your assessments.

The whole process typically involves two to three visits in total and can take between two and twenty four months depending on how you progress.

Once your portfolio of evidence has been Quality Assured we then claim your certificate.

  • I am dyslexic will I be able to complete the course?

Great news! 63% of technicians and mechanics based on a survey of Plant Mechanic college attendees were found to be dyslexic learners.  Our training is based around supporting dyslexic learners and those who have other learning differences.

Whether you have been diagnosed or not, we will help you to get the best result you can get. We do not use formal exams but use practical assessments throughout the process.

Just get in touch with us if you would like to talk about any specific support you may benefit from, we will do everything we can to support you.

  • How much does the NVQ cost?

We charge a standard rate of £1200 per NVQ for our industry qualifications.
