Description

Dates: 6 October - 1 November 2024 (see full schedule below)

Times:
Sundays: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Wednesdays: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Final Session: Friday, 1 November - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Location: Online via Zoom

This four-week workshop focuses on mastering Adobe Lightroom Classic. You'll learn the most effective tools for primary and secondary colour correction, colour matching, advanced masking, colour profiles, and exporting. Working with RAW files, you'll produce high-quality web and print masters.

All too commonly, we begin with an image and an idea of where we want to go with it but struggle with which tools to use to get there. We often guess, make a mistake, and then fix that mistake with another tool, making more of a mess and ending up frustrated and having to start over or give up completely.

Our goal is to improve your creative and technical processes, helping you think precisely about your images and achieve your vision with confidence.

I’ll share my personal grading methodology, explaining the rationale behind each tool's use and its sequence in the workflow. This approach not only simplifies the process but also enhances its effectiveness.

You'll receive guided instruction and hands-on practice, applying newly learned techniques to your own images with individual feedback. Our extensive sessions will introduce new challenges each week, while our Wednesday check-ins will focus on addressing questions and solving problems. You'll benefit from individual and group feedback, hands-on time and opportunities to work independently and collaboratively. Observing fellow students’ work will also provide valuable insights, as each unique image requires a nuanced approach.

If you're a Capture One user, the skills you'll gain here are transferable. While the interfaces are similar, they are not identical, so you should familiarise yourself with the basic interface of Lightroom Classic beforehand.

Join us to set a robust foundation for ongoing learning and artistic growth. Even with over 20 years of experience, I discover new insights every time I grade. Let’s embark on this journey together and take your image grading skills to the next level.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What level of experience do I need to take this class?

You need to have a working knowledge of Lightroom, and understand how to import keywords and sort images using a star rating or colour attribute.

We will be going over all of the main tools in Lightroom with a focus on those most suited to colour grading. However, this review and explanation will be relatively quick and intended to broaden existing knowledge. We will be working individually and sharing our work with the group to receive feedback and guidance.

If terms like HSL and Curves cause you to turn to Google, then this class probably isn't for you. You risk feeling lost. I recommend taking an introduction to Lightroom or spending time on YouTube. There are many 'how to' tutorials available for free.

If you are still unsure you are welcome to contact me.

  • What is the difference between Adobe Lightroom Classic and CC?

Lightroom is the new cloud-based photo service that works across desktop, mobile, and web. Lightroom Classic is a desktop-focused digital photography product.

  • What is a RAW file?

A RAW file is the uncompressed and unprocessed image data captured by a digital camera or scanner’s sensors. Shooting in RAW captures a high level of image detail, with large file sizes and lossless quality. The direct image data means you start with a high-quality image that can be edited, converted, and compressed in a non-destructive manner.

  • Is there a discount for booking colour grading sessions?

Discounts on colour grading sessions are available as an add-on.

  • Can I get a refund if I can't attend?

Refunds are not offered, but with 21 days' advance notice, you may be able to transfer to another workshop at the educator's discretion.
