The course will be held in Pirzwell workshop at Pirzwell Ponds, Cullompton from 10am until 4.30pm. There is parking there and lunch, tea and coffee will be provided, as well as wool!
You can choose what animal you would like to make (within reason!), but it is best to pick something you love and you are familiar with how it looks. We use a wire armature frame and make a model around 6 to 7 inches in height. Please bring reference pictures/photos that inspire you and especially a picture of the animal from the side view, so that we can get the proportions right - I will help you with this, don't worry about it! I will also have some photographs and books for reference. Please let me know what animal you would like to make so I can bring the right colour wool!
You will learn the process of needle-felting and hopefully you will finish your sculpture in the day, but there is no pressure to do so and I will ensure that you will be able to finish off at home if necessary. Felting is an enjoyable and surprisingly easy craft.
All materials and tools are provided. So you don't need to bring anything but enthusiasm! Felting tools and wool will also be available to purchase after the course if you so wish.
Access: Parking is available close to the workshop, which is situated on the ground floor. Lunch and toilet facilities are located in the farmhouse, accessed via a few steps. Please ask if you require further information.

Although it has its roots in a centuries old form of cloth making, needle-felting is a relatively new art, an off-shoot of industrial felt-making from the nineteenth century. Woollen fibres are bonded together using specially designed barbed needles to form a firm material which can be made into 3-D shapes.
No sewing (or glueing) involved. You will be amazed how the fibres bond together with just a little stabbing.
No! We use a wire armature frame in the models which immediately helps you with proportions. You will be gently guided through the entire process. Relax and enjoy - you only have yourself to please.
All materials are included and tools loaned to you. It is important however, to bring a printed picture of the animal you would like to make.
Needle-felting is a fascinating experience, watching creations taking a life and form of their own as you work. It is a very intuitive and tactile craft. Tools required are few and the materials relatively inexpensive. The work can be picked up and put down at a moment’s notice, and can be carried out almost anywhere. Michelle started teaching the craft eight years ago, holding regular workshops at venues across the country. She has now taught over 2000 people. Workshops are held in a very relaxed atmosphere - it’s been said that the laughs are as good as the course! There are several regular venues all over the country or you can travel to Furzie's Workshop in Somerset or arrange for Furzie to travel to you.
