Description

Course information 

It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training, the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for plant mover use.
  • Prepare machinery for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Storage and transport of machinery attachments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

Entry requirements 

In order to be eligible to undertake NPORS testing.

Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Assessment 

Assessment will be to NPORS standards consisting of a theory test and practical test.

Certification

NPORS Traditional card – With the traditional card, there is no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five-year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required. 

NPORS CSCS – To ensure that the operator is able to receive the NPORS CSCS logo card, candidates must have completed the relevant health and safety test within the last 2 years of the test date. This will issue a trained operator card. To gain a competent operator card, the candidate will be required to complete an NVQ in the specific item of plant.
