Having taken a career break to raise her daughter and support her through her education, Louise and Hayley met at their daughter’s primary school. Setting up Education Guardianship in 2021 to support international students in local schools, Louise and Hayley run the business together taking a hands-on approach to the pastoral care and support of the students in their care. The value was in being forced to rethink. Then lots of freelance work including restructuring medical practices, public speaking on such subjects as creativity, problem solving, motivation, managing teams and public speaking training. As a freelance you pick up some oddities along the way, e.g. as making ‘boring’ subjects such as minute taking and data protection fun – I kid you not. Craven College – a Further Education College based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, “The Gateway to the Dales”. Our unique position – at the juncture of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire enables us to offer a variety of further and higher education courses, including apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees and part-time adult education. Craven College started life in 1825 as the Skipton Mechanics Institute on the High Street in Skipton. During the Second World War the Skipton Art School and Skipton Technical Institute were established. In 1954 the Skipton Art School and Technical Institution become the Craven Institute for Further Education. In 1974, the College was renamed the Craven College of Adult Education and the full-time courses flourished mainly leading to secretarial work, hospitality and catering, social work and small business management. The Aireville Campus was developed in 1989 adjoining Aireville School (now The Skipton Academy). The Auction Mart Campus was later developed to accommodate all land-based courses and The Aviation Academy was established in Yeadon at Leeds Bradford Airport. Tyro Training was established in 2003 offering flexible training, consultancy and support to business across the North of England. With its HQ at Craven Cattle Mart in Skipton, Tyro Training also has a training base in Scarborough. The Animal Management Centre was opened for students in 2018 with specialist rooms for aquatics, invertebrates, nocturnals, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. From its premises in Ripon, Evolve supports young people from across North Yorkshire with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and offers full Study Programmes, with a focus on work experience and skills for employment.

We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations.
