Whether you are on holiday or living nearby, a novice or experienced - everyone is welcome. I am a professional artist and I have exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries in London The Saturday workshops are located at my home studio. You have a choice of working in acrylics and/or mixed media or soft pastels. Subjects include: landscapes, still life, abstract, portraits, etc. The workshops are fun, relaxing and informative. I also hold a Wednesday Art Workshops advertised on Cademy! I have a relaxed and informative approach to working with acrylics and mixed media and other techniques. I was a professional muralist for 11 years, specialising in trompe l'oeil (trick of the eye) techniques. Although photo realism painting in acrylics was essential in creating a painting illusion, I have also worked more recently with impasto and mixed media using acrylics which is an enjoyable and liberating experience. I was a former member of the Association of Professional Muralists and have appeared on television and radio. I have a friendly dog called Phoebe!

An Exciting Practical Face-to-Face Course Learning Heat Press Textile Techniques 
This is a totally practical day of workshops, doing a large variety of Heat Press Techniques for Textiles. This course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn and try out a variety of techniques. Especially good for Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level Art & Design or those who want to add to their resources, by spending a whole day developing exciting new ideas and getting the most out of your heat press. These will be linked to themes, artists and designers.
Learn and practice new and exciting skills that will enhance your teaching
Develop learning from KS3, creating independent, confident and enthusiastic learners at KS4/5.
Using a heat press to create exciting, quick and easily achieved textile techniques, including bondaweb, plastics, pleating and weaving.
Practice techniques using a heat press with both transfer paints and dyes on a variety of fabric bases from polyesters to PVC.
How a heat press can be used to develop ideas through themes
Practice taking these techniques through the development and refining process
Mark making using a heat press for textile design

What is special about the Heat Press Techniques Course?
The Heat Press Techniques face-to-face course is an experience that delivers textiles skills, knowledge and understanding. It is a great learning environment which allows you to gain new skills and techniques, showing how these can be incorporated in lesson plans and delivered in a fun, inspiring and engaging way. You can ask questions direct to the course developer/leader, practice skills, create a sketchbook resource for the classroom and network with other teachers.



Course Developer and Leader: NICKY SIMPSON


Your course leader is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at a school in Kent. She has taught Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level, Design and Technology/Textiles at GCSE & A Level and BTEC Level 3 Fashion. 
Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B). She had a previous 22-year career as a print designer and colourist, creating print ranges for the international market. For the past 8 years Nicky has been a workshop developer and leader for the online and F2F courses for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Centre, including pattern development. Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees, and now mentors many fellow teachers through the TSC mentorship programme.

In the first hour, you will learn the basics of the traditional calligraphy letter-making. Then you will practice on acetate to get an idea of what it will look and feel like on a bauble, so you&#39;ll have plenty of time to experiment and play with ideas.&nbsp;

After 25 years working across the board in blue-chip, non-profit and civil service organisations she now provides support to businesses looking to evolve and become great places for people to work in and with. 
Having worked with a wide variety of clients from school-age students to senior executives, she has been designing and running workshops, seminars and classes in person or via web events since she left long commutes and corporate roles behind in 2014 when she created her first two businesses. Together we’ll explore ways to create work that reflects your individual interests, passion, and point of view, no matter your experience level.
