We describe ourselves as a 'boutique' driving school which is very much focused on meeting the needs of individual pupils. All the lessons and courses we provide are designed around each individual pupil - we don't believe a one-size-fits-all approach works. Driving lessons can be a nervous experience for many of us, in the early days, there are a lot of issues for us to contend with. As we gain experience and our skills develop, life does become easier behind the wheel. The aim of our teaching style is to teach you to a point beyond the driving test, getting you to try to think and drive like an experienced driver. When you then pass your test and drive on your own, you will find the transition from a learner driver to a full licence holder, a lesser problem! That's what feedback from our previous learners tell us. Materiality is central to my practice, which has evolved into a deep investigation into the spatial and tactile qualities of poetry. Considering words themselves as a material, I explore the textural layers that I encounter within poems by translating these into drawings, paintings, collages and mixed media sculptural forms, ranging from books and ladders, to unique forms that I have developed and call ‘Poem-Houses’. These ‘Poem-Houses’ have evolved as a result of my experience of poems, as ‘things’ which feel very much like ‘rooms’ and in which I am able to spend time exploring the possibilities of mood and meaning that are part of the atmosphere there and around whose delicate edges, insights and alternative or new meanings begin to suggest themselves. My work becomes a visual refrain – an echo, of sorts – responding to what I have found in such places by means of a process that feels to be almost archaeological and to apparently be reconnecting with how it all began for me. As my process continues, the raw material that I have discovered inside a poem transmutes into and gradually becomes a delicate interweaving of words, natural forms, tissue, wire, thread, wax, with found and other materials, as if by some kind of alchemy, so eluding definition and transcending boundaries of categorisation. Such an unfettering of my “attitude of mind” (see Kathleen Jamie’s poem) has encouraged me to cross boundaries that are perceived between disciplines, ‘allowing’ me to work with media such as video and porcelain clay to create short video and ceramic pieces, through which I experience a liberating feeling of ‘flow’, my natural curiosity piqued by all that I do not know

The Alamiyah School stems from a project which began in 2005 with a determined group of home-schooling parents who were eager to create a positive learning environment for their children; one that would foster not only a love of knowledge but give the children a moral framework and nurture each child’s unique genius. The project was subsequently joined by a group of educational professionals and evolved into the Alamiyah Pre-school. We registered as an independent school (Alamiyah School) in 2017 allowing us to cater for school age pupils. The school now caters for pupils of age 3-11 years till the end of the primary age range. The Alamiyah School is inspired by the Prophetic Tradition and will use a curriculum infused with the prophetic stories, arts and sciences. The Montessori approach to early years is the framework upon which the school is based, thus creating an educational experience based on ancient wisdoms and modern discoveries. The Montessori approach creates an environment that offers each child the opportunity to express and develop their individuality and their innate need to learn. It is based on the natural laws of human development (fitra) confirmed by scientific advances and is therefore perfectly in line with a prophetic model for education. The curriculum is child centered, encourages independence and fosters empathy and compassion. The project is lead by an enthusiastic group of teachers trained in the Montessori approach, with many years experience with young children. Our teachers are professionals in their field and have a deeply rooted interest in education.
