Vicki is a qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience in schools, colleges and universities. She worked as a secondary school teacher for a number of years before working with students with additional needs. After several years running programmes for young people and adults in the FE sector, Vicki undertook a Masters in Education, specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), along with additional training to assess for dyslexia. She is also a qualified SENCO and worked for several years as an Advisory Teacher for the local authority. Vicki currently works part-time in a HE setting assessing and tutoring individuals with specific learning difficulties. Each year she assesses over 80 students for Disabled Students Allowance and continues to offer advice and assessments to a number of local schools. Vicki is the current Chair of the Dorset PATOSS group. Vicki lives in Swanage and relaxes by walking in the Purbeck hills with her dog Poppy, pottering in her tiny garden and acting as roadie to her musical teenage sons. With his ever-increasing thirst for knowledge to actively improve people’s quality of life through the joy of fitness, Alistair has continued to add to his skill set. 2019 saw him become a certified Level 3 YMCA Personal Trainer, a certified Non-Contact Boxing Tutor, and Advanced Boxing For Fitness Instructor with another specialisation in Exercise for Older Adults. With current studies ongoing for a certification in “Level 3 GP Exercise Referral” and “Level 4 Nutrition and Weight Loss”, Alistair’s mission to provide the highest level of service to all of his members and participants of the “FAB FITNESS” community continues to grow and flourish! Alistair’s lifelong desire to create his own kind of music brought him to Manchester in 2007, where he continues to reside to the present day. NINE ARCHES PRESS was founded in 2008 and emerged from an awareness of the local literary landscape and a desire to provide a platform for new and emerging poets. As a result, Under the Radar magazine was set up first, and Nine Arches Press swiftly moved onto publishing pamphlets by October of that year. By the following year we had brought out our first two full-length poetry collections, and a further batch of poetry pamphlets and issues of the magazine. Since 2008, Nine Arches has continued onwards and upwards, publishing poetry and continuing to develop Under the Radar magazine. In 2010, two of our pamphlets (The Terrors by Tom Chivers and The Titanic Cafe closes its doors and hits the rocks by David Hart, both now out of print) were shortlisted for the Michael Marks Poetry Pamphlet prize. Next, Mark Goodwin's book Shod won the 2011 East Midlands Book Award. In 2017, All My Mad Mothers by Jacqueline Saphra was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Poetry Prize. Our titles have also been shortlisted for the Michael Murphy Prize, and in 2016 David Clarke's debut poems, Arc, was longlisted for the Polari Prize. To date we have now published over seventy poetry publications, and 20 issues of Under the Radar magazine (and counting). In addition to publishing, we are keen to participate in the wider creative community of writing, listening, reading and sharing. We run regular creative writing workshops, and offer workshops and masterclasses at a variety of festivals. We also co-run Leicester Shindig, a bi-monthly poetry open mic night, at The Western in Leicester, and are involved in a variety of live poetry events both regionally and nationally. Nine Arches Press places a high value on good, concise editing and in working closely with all of our authors and poets to ensure high-quality publications that we will both be proud to put our names to. Our status as an independent press gives us freedom to take risks and closely support the writers whose work we really believe in. Nine Arches’ aim is to publish bold, diverse and distinctive new writing, an invitation to an adventure in poetry for our readers. When looking for new writers to publish, the priority is always towards work that will excite, surprise or delight readers. With eclectic and wide-ranging tastes inspiring and informing Nine Arches Press, we do not believe in defining a 'type' or genre of work to publish, beyond saying that the main criteria is to select high-quality original work with a unique voice all of its own. We are also keen to increase the amount of poetry we consider and publish by writers from diverse backgrounds, and actively encourage submissions from writers who have been traditionally under-represented in poetry publishing in the UK. The Stained Glass Centre was established in 2008 by the recently-formed Stained Glass Trust, with the aim of providing an educational centre to encourage the study and appreciation of stained glass, as well as breathing life back into St Martin-cum-Gregory. This beautifully evocative Grade I listed building, which dates back to before the 11th century, is home to a rich range of historic glass, including some of the earliest logos to be seen in stained glass and memorials to celebrated glass-painters. Set in the city of York, home to much of Britain’s surviving ancient glass and a focus for craft and creativity in the modern day practice of stained glass making, The Stained Glass Centre provides a unique point of interpretation for the city, with demonstrations, workshops, guided tours and lectures. The Stained Glass Centre is developing as a national resource for the discovery and interpretation of stained glass. The building has long been a destination for those interested in this fragile medium. As the Stained Glass Centre, it is transforming into a venue in which residents, students and visitors can explore, participate in and learn more about one of the most beguiling of crafts, one that continues to be central to the heritage, culture and economy of the city of York. Now that the future of the building has been secured for public use, a programme of events is bringing people and new life back into the building. Through the Centre, residents of central York can reclaim aspects of their own local history, participate in, and learn about, craft-skills, arts and industries which continue to play a vital role in the life of the city and region. The Stained Glass Centre also plays a key role in the re-awakening of Micklegate, which once was, and could be again, York’s most important and elegant street. Thank you for visiting touchtennis.com, and welcome to the tribe. touchtennis was founded by Rashid Ahmad in 2002 (or it may be 2003 depending on how many slams he wants to credit himself with) and his initial vision was simple – to create a sport that works for every age and every ability, possible to play anywhere, that will foster fun and connection above all, as well as of course getting people fit, energised and moving. Played on a 12 x 6 metre compact court with foam balls, a foldaway and easy to set up net and 21 inch tennis racquets, you can set up to play wherever you like from your school, park, garden or even the beach. Although the game is particularly attractive to beginners and less experienced tennis players looking to improve their hand-eye coordination, if you want to take it a step further from your garden, you might be interested in joining the growing touchtennis world tour. With Slams and Masters Tournaments, the tour has attracted players of all abilities who compete like lunatics for ranking points and prize money. But mainly just for the larks! Because, you see, the key to touchtennis is the amount of spin, deft stroke-play, chess-like tactics and unique, sometimes even silly, rules like using your body to make shots after (and only after) you’ve made a shot by throwing your racquet at a ball you couldn’t reach. It’s a game that is brains over brawn, touch over power, spin over strength, flair over fighting. And this is where the bigger vision comes in and why we would love you to join us – we believe as people soften their approach to sport they can soften their approach to life and that touchtennis can become about connection, community, purpose and a sense of belonging in something fun and healthy instead of to violent gangs or peer pressure activities or just to break the habit of your life stressors. We all have them. The bigger picture is to see touchtennis being a force for change and good around conflict and violence. A court straddling the borders of warring countries where individuals from those nations are seen battling their feelings through the skill and expertise of touchtennis and having fun doing it, perhaps even sharing a doubles partner with someone from the opposite country would be Rashid’s dream. (We are also striving to make our products sustainable and cheap for the whole world to be able to afford to play.) touchtennis shows that what divides is not as great as what unites us in this instance via a playful, intricate but easy sport. Our Academy consists of almost 1500 learners with 215 students in Huish Sixth. Set in the heart of the beautiful Somerset levels we have a catchment area of approximately 200 sq miles and work with 11 partner primary schools within our Community Learning Partnership. As an Academy we are consistently oversubscribed with large numbers of pupils joining us from beyond our catchment area. We have a staff of almost 200 teachers and support staff with 98 teachers split across a range of faculties and departments. Larger faculties include Mathematics, English, Science and Modern Languages while other areas such as the Arts and Humanities are based on smaller departments. Within our structures we have Progress Leaders in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Post-16 who are responsible for the monitoring of standards and ensuring that every pupil makes the maximum amount of progress. These Progress Leaders are supported by Student Support Workers, who much like a triage nurse in a hospital, will offer an immediate service and then refer students on for more serious issues such as safeguarding. The heart of our pastoral system is based around the Student Services Hub which also houses our Parent and Family Support Adviser, Counsellor and Attendance Officer. We are very conscious that many of our pupils will be joining from smaller primary schools, and so we have a very well established transition programme to support pupils who join our Academy. Pupils meet their tutor every morning and afternoon to "touch base" as well as check planners and undertake a variety of learning activities within our Extra Curriculum Time programme. Huish Episcopi Academy has an excellent reputation and is recognised as a place where all pupils are inspired and challenged to go beyond what they ever thought was possible for them both in terms of academic standards and experiences beyond the classroom. This is reflected in our belief that developing rounded individuals who are not only academically successful, but who also have opportunities to develop other key skills, such as leadership, teamwork and communication, which will give them the edge when it comes to future challenges. Our team have built up twenty years’ experience as training providers. Firstly, under the umbrella of Henry Boot Training, they were taken over by Pearson’s in Practice then latterly Learning World. Throughout this time we have continued to support our learners and this is why we are able to carry forward with the continued provision we have delivered over the last two decades. As a training provider we have continued to provide our service within Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire working with Young People and Adults, Inspiring them to know that no career is off limits because of their gender, race or background. we aim to help disadvantaged people to gain practical training to assist with their employment prospects supporting a more equal and diverse work force and bring greater collaboration with an inclusive work place. We do this by providing personal development, practical and Health & Safety training in the following areas: Joinery Paint & Decorating Brickwork Pathways Drainage Manual Handling Cable Avoidance Hard/Soft Landscaping Aluminium Towers Dry stone walling Completing CSCS certification Risk and COSHH assessment Power Tools As important, we provide support and encouragement for our learners. Many of our learners have not worked since leaving school or are non-attenders currently of school age. Self-esteem is often very low. By providing taster sessions within different areas of the building trade. This allows the learner to gain knowledge and the choice to concentrate within a particular field; they may ordinarily have not had the opportunity. We home in on their strengths and build on them. This leads in many cases gaining an apprenticeship, securing a college course or employment. Since our team were made redundant from Learning World in November 2012, we have made it our sole aim to keep the continuity we have successfully maintained over the years as training providers. We secured funding, from the Big Lottery, Young Start and Investing in Ideas. This has allowed us to buy equipment and resources to provide correct and current training for the learners within our centre. We managed to secure the premises with our Landlord before Leaning World closed their doors at the end of October 2012. This has provided us the start we need to carry forward our work within the East End of Glasgow and continue to build our relationships with other agencies, for example; Education Services; Activity Agreements Officers and Integrated Children’s Services, East End Regeneration, and more recently Forestry Commission Community Woodland Trust, to help provide a tangible Green Legacy, as well as the Youth Circus, as part of the Commonwealth Games. Our aim as a training provider is primarily based on passion not profit. Seeking to deliver a stepping stone for our learners who live within areas of high unemployment, deprivation, addiction and social exclusion. As well as, working with young people who have been excluded from school, and are being cared for away from the family home. Often this means we have to address the local gang culture, within Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and surrounding areas, as we bring together the Young People into training centre. Hi! I’m Nicola and I am the founder of Little Love Harts. I am a certified Blossom and Berry Baby Massage and Baby Yoga instructor and a qualified Hypnobirthing Instructor with The Calm Birth School I also hold as BSc in Social Science and have always been interested in people, other cultures, why they do things & how they benefit both families and society. I am married to Andy have a little boy Hugo R Hart our very own HRH – he is both my why and how for becoming a Baby Massage, Baby Yoga and Hypnobirthing instructor. I loved Hypnobirthing and the tools it taught me to prepare for a safe, empowering and positive birth. Despite our birth not going to what we had ‘planned’ or rather what my first preference was, utilising the tools and techniques my husband and I had learnt through Hypnobirthing we were able to have the best birth ever!! Like many I found the first few months of motherhood very overwhelming – my world flipped 180 in both an amazing and positive way – which obviously I am so grateful for, but also in a scary and at times, lonely way. In having my son I both lost myself and found myself all at the same time… My aim with Little Love Harts is to give the tool for safe, empowered and calm births and to teach parents that they are enough for their baby, yes read the books, yes seek advice from family, friends and when needed professionals – but always know that you are all your baby needs. At Little Love Harts I the importance of love and connection through nurturing touch, massage & yoga to help babies and children reach their full potential & make the world abetter place. My mission is to grow babies with love, touch, responsive care and positive interaction. Little Love Harts aim is to create nurturing experiences for all parents and babies to deepen their connection and confidence. I want to make sure that parents feel nurtured and in turn get the space and tool to nurture their babies in a loving and supportive environment. My classes are an inclusive, accepting, welcoming and safe space for all. I am committed to promoting the wellbeing of parents and babies through the provision of inclusive, educational and supportive classes and services. I also provide several free services in the Colchester area, to help parents connect such as coffee and catch ups, buggy walks and online community to share and exchange ideas.
