This is performed before the nourishing iontophoresis treatment. It has a softening effect called cataphoresis- which produces alkali (sodium hydroxide). The active electrode must be negative (the moving one). Desincrustation lotions are available as well as gels and lotions. These products contain ions with a negative charge which help the product to penetrate the skin. The negatively charged ions are repelled away from the active electrode and are attracted toward the positive charge of the indifferent (not moving) electrode. Effective on treating: Greasy Skin - To deeply cleanse and kick-start sluggish skin Dry Skin - To accelerate flow of sebum and remove adhesions Preparation of skin for iontophoresis - allowing for deep absorption of products (b) Iontophoresis This allows products to be pushed deeper into the epidermis - anaphoresis. It allows for water-soluble products to be introduced into the skin. The effects depend on the product and the active electrode. The principle is that like charges repel and opposite charges attract, to aid the penetration of an ionised (+ or -) active product. Many ampoules, creams and gels can be used for Iontophoresis and the effects can be quite dramatic. The penetration is best carried out later on in the facial when the skin has been prepared, so that the active ingredients will remain deep within the skin. For this treatment the client does not have to participate. Electrodes are simply placed on muscles causing a contract and release impulse. This exercises the muscles &#39;passively&#39; as client participation is not necessary in order for this type of exercise. Although this seems an ideal way to exercise the muscles, treatments must be carried out at least 2-3 times a week for 4-6 weeks to achieve results. Top-up treatments will then need to be carried out once a month. To cause lift and stimulation of the under-lying structures you only apply vacuum suction treatment. The vacuum suction is aimed to improve the circulation of the lymph where lymph fluid are used to transports waste products and fatty materials of body metabolism and digestion. When used properly, vacuum suction is a gentle and effective treatment, and so relaxing that the client should fall asleep when this treatment is being carried out! The only rule of thumb with vacuum is that you should work towards the lymph nodes, to reinforce the natural draining ability of the lymphatic system. Vacuum suction is effective when used in conjunction with other treatments, or it can be offered on its own, and good results will be seen in the skin&#39;s appearance after a course of treatments. The origins of microneedling and development of PRP, evolution of treatments, types of equipment and range of applications. Historical perspective and modern day examples of PRP therapies.


M05 – Health & Safety & IPC
H&S legislation, Standard Precautions (for blood borne pathogens), Pathogen types, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Handwashing and Hygiene, Hazardous Waste Disposal (non-specific), Preventing Needlestick Injuries. A detailed look at viruses, bacteria and fungi. Handling clients with infectious conditions and infestations. Transmission modes. Sterilisation processes in the workplace, including autoclaves.


M06 – Regulatory Obligations
Pathways – employed, contracted and self-employed, Management of H&S at work, Local and national government laws and bylaws, DBS types, Record Keeping, Hazardous Waste Disposal (specific), Insurance and insurance types, Accident reporting, The Keogh Review, HEE guidelines, Professional bodies.


M07 – Professionalism & Effective Communication
Presenting a professional image, guidelines and recommendations. How to effectively communicate with your clients and colleagues, communication methods, communicating efficiently in consultation.


M08 – Consent
Understanding consent types and your client’s capacity to consent. The importance of valid consent. Consent frequency. Risk assessment. Storing consent documentation – looking at paper and digital/cloud. Consent and the law. Determining if consent is robust.


M09 – Environmental and Sustainable Work Practices
Sustainability in the workplace. Running an efficient salon (water efficiency, waste reduction, interior fittings). Advancements including digital options (clients and suppliers).


M10 – Anatomy & Physiology
A&P for collagen induction therapy. Veins, arteries and capillaries (phlebotomy overview). The integumentary system – structure and function. Microneedling – depths and penetration. The lymphatic system. The circulatory system. Skin as a defence barrier. Skin – functions and layers. Merkel cells, Langerhans Cells, Keratinocytes and Melanocytes. The epidermal-melanin unit. Fibroblasts and connective tissue. The effects of ageing. Skin changes over time. Skin rejuvenation including optimising cell function and increasing natural collagen. Inducing regenerative healing. The Fitzpatrick Scale. A detailed look at cell function, specifically melanocytes, keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Microneedling the skin, effects and collagen response. Sites appropriate to IV cannulation. Hand vs. arm.
Advantages and disadvantages of relevant veins.
An overview of Homeostasis and Fluid Balance.
M4 - Hygiene and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC):
Reducing healthcare-associated infections. Keeping Safe.
Bloodborne Pathogens and Work Practice Controls.
Standard Precautions. Waste Disposal. Needle-stick injuries.
M5 - Indications and Advantages:
When to cannulate, infusion types and benefits over
alternative infusion routes. Continuous and intermittent infusion.
Prophylactic use before procedures and in unstable patients.
Contraindications.
M6 - Equipment:
Cannula types, sizes and colour coding. How to select
appropriate size. Equipment overview for total procedure.
M7 - Vein Choice for Cannulation:

How to manage an unsuccessful cannulation.

Arteries and veins. Selecting an approprate site. Sites to avoid and “first choice” sites.
4 - Cannulae - selection and types:
A detailed look at different types of cannulas, respective benefits and attributes. Selectinng an appropriate pVAD.
5 - Complications:
Complications of pVAD insertion including examples of
infiltration, haematoma, extravasation and transfixation.
6 - VIP Score:
Understanding and using the Visual Infusion Phlebitis score.
7 - Equipment - overview:
We take a look at all essential equipment required for PIVC.
8 - PRACTICAL SESSIONS:
Multiple practical sessions throughout the session.
9 - Fluids:
The importance of understanding fluids. Includes detailed overview of: maintenance fluids, Hartmann’s solution, Colloids (and risks), blood products.
10 - Infusion Rates:
Calculating infusion rates and drops per minute.

Our Peripheral IV Cannulation Course and Injection Course training kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available for you to add at time of booking. Training kits mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video instructions, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for your one full day to complete your cannulation and injection course training.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your cannulation course and one for your injection course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 and £39.95 respectively) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

The Medical Massage Lady Training School

This course is intended for anyone who is working in an environment with teenagers and children where sports or dealing with sports injuries are a factor.
