I deliver quirky, unusual art and craft workshops in a number of local crafting venues across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. I can also bring Quirkshops to any suitable venue and tailor the workshop to the specific needs of a client. The workshops typically last between 2 – 6 hours, occasionally more in-depth workshops may be held over a number of weeks. My background. I have always been creative but from an early age I had to choose between a scientific and artistic career. Having spent most of my childhood holidays in Devon with my head dangling over a pontoon staring into the green-blue depths and the curious creatures within, it seemed natural for me to study marine biology (you get the octopus logo now!). A convoluted route led me through a PhD studying marine neurotoxins to a career in Public Health for 18 years. But I always wanted to create. I took a year out and started to volunteer at a local community farm, FarmEco, a magical place with the most amazing people. That is where things fell together: connecting with nature, creativity and my desire to help people to improve their wellbeing. I can often be found at the farm, hands covered in charcoal or paint and looking windswept and with a smile on my face. Nature and wellbeing. I am passionate about the benefits to our wellbeing that creativity can bring and to combine this with immersing yourself in nature can be a powerful tonic. Many of my workshops take place entirely outdoors, spending time not just creating in but connecting with nature through simple practices which awaken the senses. By connecting with nature we develop a desire to care for nature and that is something we desperately need in this time of climate crisis. Workshops. The focus of the workshops is to nurture creative talent in everyone through a wide range of art and craft skills. The experiences are shared in a group but will be unique and personal (people won’t all produce the same thing at the end) and the process is every bit as important as the things that people produce.

Our children’s centre is part of the wider Wigan Council Start Well network offering the activities that you can enjoy. We provide support and services for the communities of Hindley and Hindley Green; Abram and Platt Bridge; Ashton and Bryn. Start Well Family Centres are working with residents and supporting them to get involved in the Start Well offer, building on the attributes and strengths of communities in the borough. Platt Bridge Start Well Family Centre is integrated within the school building. Our Start Well Family Centre offers families with young children the opportunity to access good quality early years provision and other health, family support and employment related services. Within our Start Well Family Centre we work with a range of partners and other groups to provide: Early years provision - full day care for 0 - 3 year olds, Nursery education places and extended care places for 3 - 4 year olds, before, after school and holiday care places for 3 - 11 year olds Crèche facilities Parent and child groups/activities Childminder's network Parenting and family support services Education, training and employment services Access to health and other wider services, including Job Centre Plus Jo Robinson is our Start Well Family Centre Manager she works closely with children, families and the community to identify the services required within Platt Bridge, Hindley, Abram, Bryn and Ashton. In our team we also have a Senior Start Well Worker and three Start Well Workers who are available for families to speak to at any time. We have two Early Years Workers who deliver a range of activities and projects for families and children. Our Receptionist/Information Worker is always on hand at our Platt Bridge site to offer any advice or information required. Penicuik High School is a co-educational, non-denominational High School serving Penicuik and the surrounding area within Midlothian. The current school building with its imposing frontage has been on its present site since 1937 and the school has a reputation for offering a wide and stimulating curriculum and supporting young people to achieve academically, socially and culturally. Fitness has played a huge part in my life for as long as I can remember. Everyday I’m fortunate enough to work with amazing people and help them make long term sustainable changes in their life, results are not given they are earned and I can show you exactly how to get them. Michael has a wealth of experience in the fitness industry and has built a reputation in the Southside of Glasgow for having extremely high standards and delivering results. Since qualifying as a personal trainer in 2009, Michael has continually developed and evolved his expertise and approach to ensure he has the skills, knowledge and personal touch to support his clients and community to reach their goals. Michael is a REPS Level 4 Specialist in the management of lower back pain and regularly supports clients with rehabilitation of injuries and chronic pain. He was responsible for developing and creating personalised plans for patients whilst working for Nuffield Health, who have had debilitating musculoskeletal surgery including hip replacements, knee replacements etc. Michael would work with these people to help them recover and regain functionality and flexibility. All tuition is one-to-one private with all abilities catered for and tailored to each child’s individual needs. Grammar school entrance exam preparation plays a major role in the business, including Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning, mock exams, etc. John Cashin says: “Although many parents enrol their children for tuition in either Yr. 4 or 5, it really is never too early to begin and I am delighted when parents of younger children enrol them for tuition. This is because almost all children develop gaps in their understanding of school work which, if not promptly addressed, can grow year-on-year into more significant problems. I see many children who, had they been brought to me for tutoring at an earlier stage in their education, could have achieved so much more. The good news is that, if these problems are “nipped in the bud,” they can invariably be eliminated, giving the child a distinct advantage. Also, a good understanding of the curriculum can play an important role in alleviating frustrations which, if left unaddressed, often give rise to behavioural problems. There is no substitute for personal time spent with an experienced tutor. The children appreciate the opportunity to ask me about things they have not grasped at school and their confidence, ability and enthusiasm increases exponentially as they see the benefits for themselves. Whatever a child’s level of ability, it can be reinforced and developed – and we really do see some very rewarding transformations. For example, the father of a Yr. 4 boy who attends one such school, remarked to me recently, after attending parents’ evening at his son’s school: “Looking at his school books, you can draw a line at the point when he started at John Cashin Tuition – the improvement is that evident!” This is typical of the comments we receive from parents.
