Academy Street was founded by Jemma Mcrae in 1996. Jemma ran the school for 23 years, and during that time she touched the lives of many dance students in Aberdeen. Jemma’s reputable teaching and sparkling personality shone bright for all those who had the chance to be a part of her dance journey. Gillian was an Academy Street Dance pupil where in later years she joined as a teaching member, Joanne then joined the team in 2014. This became the solidarity of ‘Team Academy Street’. We worked as a trio for 5 years and valued each other as teacher’s as well as close friends. Our every inspiring ‘Jem’ sadly passed in February 2019, and she left one of the biggest legacies in her ‘extended family’ Academy Street Dance Studio.

Hi and welcome to Club Salsa Hull, my name is Sue and I first saw salsa dancing in 1998 at a nightclub in Leeds. I was first interested in Dance when I took up Latin, Ballroom and Dance Exercise. At that time there were no Salsa classes in Hull so I travelled to Leeds and had classes with Nicolai, Alan and Mark from The Latin Quarter at Woodkirk in Dewsbury. After a year I replied to an advert for Adult Education to teach beginners classes. I took my Adult Teacher Training Certificate and when the course finished I started classes of my own. In my 20 years of teaching I feel I have raised the profile of Salsa dancing in Hull and The East Riding of Yorkshire. Our classes are all inclusive and a lot of fun. The most important things you need for Salsa dancing are enthusiasm, willingness to learn and persistence. When my Salsa classes started the interest was huge and at our first class we had almost 100 people, mainly beginners! The School has developed to include more venues and more dance styles, Bachata, Rueda, and Kizomba. I find instructing my students is immensely satisfying. It is extremely rewarding to witness dancers develop their own style and skill on the dance floor. I want people to feel as happy when they are dancing Salsa as I do. My aim is to create smiling faces as we dance. Salsa dancing is a great way to keep fit, have fun and make new friends. In recent years the Club Salsa Crew have enjoyed mini dance weekenders in the Seaside town of Scarborough. We also organise a bi-annual 'Salstravaganza' holiday in Spain that takes us dancing to Murcia on the Costa Calida.

Welcome to my journey! I started dancing at the age of 3 at Vacani Ballet School but didn't voyage through belly dance until my teenage years, through my love of Bollywood and Tamil cinema. I was attracted to belly dance like a moth to a flame. I had an avid interest in intuitive ways of living and healing through movement. After suffering serious health challenges and feeling disconnected from my body, I was in need of grounding and feeling whole again. I found my home in belly dance, because it reconciled me with my dear body. Precision Pilates studio opened in December 2020. Founder Amber Edenbrow had dreamt of opening a Pilates / Wellbeing studio for many years. Amber first started her Pilates business in September 2016 running classes in local village halls and community centres. After several years of looking for a dedicated studio space, Abacus House (former betting shop) proved the ideal location. Having grown up in the area, Amber was keen for her business to provide service to the residents of Corsham and surrounding towns & villages. The studio opened its doors in May 2021 following the global pandemic and national lockdown. Our dedicated studio allows us to be able to offer fully comprehensive Pilates teaching including the use of the Pilates Reformer, Pilates Tower, Pilates Wunda Chair and Arc barrel for our private and duet sessions. along with our many group based mat classes. We have now created a calm light and airy studio that is open to everyone. The studio is fitted with an air filtration system so that clients can feel comfortable and safe.
