The Study Society is both a physical and virtual place where you can find rest and refreshment amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We share practical ways to help further inner peace, happiness and spiritual growth. The Study Society is headquartered at Colet House in London and has affiliate groups around the world. Our charity organises weekly classes, member gatherings, Advaita meetings and events to help connect people with deep levels of stillness, truth and love. Please, have a look at our range of on-line offers to see what is currently available. The teachings of the Study Society originated with the Russian philosopher and spiritual teacher P.D. Ouspensky who bought Colet House, just before the Second World War. Ouspensky’s successor Dr. Francis Roles registered The Study Society as a member based organisation in 1951. Afterwards, Dr. Roles introduced non-dual philosophy and mantra meditation to Society members through a direct connection with His Holiness Shantanand Saraswati (1913-1997), a leader of the ancient Advaita (which means ‘not two’) Vedanta tradition in India. In 1963, Dr. Roles introduced to Study Society’s members another expression of non-dual philosophy through a unique relationship with Mr. Resuhi, a senior Sheikh of the Mevlevi Dervish order in Turkey. Mevlevi Turning (whirling dervishes) was inspired over 700 years ago by the poet Jalaluddin Rumi. The Turning has been taught and practiced at Colet House for over 50 years. Today we blend sacred traditions with modern teachings and expressions of non-duality which can be sourced across multiple cultures. As Rupert Spira, a Direct Path teacher, long-term member and friend of The Study Society says: “non-duality requires no affiliation to any particular religious or spiritual tradition. All that is required is an interest in the essential nature of experience, and in the longing for love, peace and happiness around which most of our lives revolve.”

Richard, your course leader: I have over 50 years experience in using the English language as a native speaker. I’m now looking to pass on some of my experience to help you learn the language and use it the way you need to use it for your work, rest, or play. So I am a qualified TEFL teacher, with a Certificate in English Language Training and I host language students at my home here in England who come for a holiday learning experience. For many years I worked in computing and business and my work took me around the world. I have spent a little time living in France, and more recently I was living in Germany, donc je peux parlais un petit peux de la francais, aber auch ein bissen Deutsch. That means I know what it’s like to learn a foreign language. It may help, you never know! In terms of my lessons with you, how these are structured really depends on your language level and what you want or need to learn. We can discuss this during our introductory session, and I can then put together a training plan so you can meet your objectives. I will use a combination of digital and printed resources to backup each session and focus on an aspect of the language you need. In each lesson I also plan to give you plenty of opportunity to practice and actually use the language you are learning. And I always plan to make my sessions fun….. My passion for nails & teaching has gone from strength to strength the past 3 years. There’s honestly nothing I don’t adore about my job - the knowledge I have absorbed, the client base I have gained & the online classes I have held throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns. It really is true that ‘you get out what you put in’. I actually studied Dance at University, unbeknown to me that it was not going to be my career path. I got to my 3rd year & something clicked, it was not making me happy anymore. I knew I always had a creative streak - I just had to figure out where to channel it. Beauty was always a passion of mine - I loved doing make up for a while, but it felt more of a hobby and I soon shrugged it off. Then the next minute, I found myself watching more nail tutorials on YouTube than I was actually studying! A big sign. I then began to research nail courses, plenty of them in fact! Fast forward... I graduated Uni, completed my nail course, and the rest is history! I truly found my feet when I found my love for nails. Now I want to help people do the same.
