Trent Valley Gliding Club is recognised by the British Gliding Association as Junior Gliding Centre and has a healthy number of aspiring junior pilots in its membership. Providing certain safety aspects are satisfied, the youngest age at which a young person can fly with us is 10 ½ years old. Whilst our youngest junior members are around 13 years old, we are happy to welcome younger members, the pre-solo training syllabus means that developing the skills required to take that first solo flight is certainly achievable for many within 12 to 18 months, if not sooner. With this in mind, we encourage the development of our youngest pilots at a steadier rate to avoid the frustration of being ready for that first solo flight well before regulations will allow. Gliding is a fun exhilarating sport that can be enjoyed by anyone, female or male. Whilst the flying is entirely about you the pilot, it takes a team effort to get you into the air and everyone is expected to ‘muck in’ and do their share on the ground. This means turning up in the morning to help get gliders out and ready to fly, or being there to help put them away at the end of the day. New members are paired with existing adult or junior members on flying days and shown how to carry out a variety of tasks as safely as possible. We each have a responsibility to keep each other safe and behave accordingly. We aspire to make a difference in the lives of thousands of women and families through our services and a part of our support focuses especially on BAME communities, so they can acquire the autonomy required to lead a productive and rewarding life and contribute to the development of their community. We know how important it is to keep a healthy mind to keep a healthy body. Studies have shown that minorities have more difficult access to mental health due to ethnic and cultural barriers such as religious beliefs, urban cultural legends, stereotypes and pre-judgment. From a global perspective, currently, women are considered the weak link in humanity and are often harassed or infantilised, while in reality, it is quite the opposite as women are the engine of this world. Without entering the feminism claimant, we want to support them, accompany them, and motivate them on the importance of their role so that they can fully take their place in this world and flourish. Our History arises from the experiences of our founders. Our Director Board is made of women from different stages of the community who have experienced the same challenges and difficulties as the women we are aiming to support. The board represents a multidisciplinary team that has travelled a lot, speaks several languages, and has mastered several cultures. We have carried out numerous humanitarian actions for 10 years around the world Asia, Africa, Europe, meetings with exceptional women and incredible life stories and success stories.

Like many people, I was driven from a young age by a need for success, approval and security. It’s one of the reasons that I went to Cambridge to study natural sciences. My career in law was another way to achieve these aspirations. My law career was successful. I enjoyed it, for a time. I became an equity partner and the head of intellectual property and technology. I was on the board of a global top 20 law firm in London. It took me falling ill with heart disease at 37 to realise that I wasn’t working towards my true purpose. My illness was shocking. How could I, an athletic young woman, get this disease more common in older men? It made me question my identity. I began a process of training, self-discovery and learning that took me all over the world. I learned from some of the greatest teachers in coaching and self-transformation today. I realised that my thought processes and my attitude to work were not healthy. There were also many aspects of my work environment that were toxic for me. I couldn’t continue living a life that I didn’t believe in. It was time to make a significant change. I created Rachel Boothroyd Training and Coaching because I wanted to help people and businesses flourish in a sustainable, healthy way. I wanted to provide experiential training, to create motivated and engaged people, who would go on to achieve greater things for themselves and the businesses they worked for. Who could do this in a sustainable way, in workplaces with healthy cultures, with open communication, purpose and, yes, even fun. I am a heart ambassador for the British Heart Foundation and speak at events and in the media to raise heart health awareness.
