We are a community interest company called Choose Nature CIC with our site being located adjacent to the Wheal Martyn Clay Works, Carthew, mid-Cornwall.  We aim to broaden the accessibility and inclusivity of outdoor learning opportunities and therapeutic support in nature.   Mission statement: ‘Choose Nature CIC works to increase the wellbeing of individuals, communities and the environment by inspiring life long learning and care. Our calm enriching outdoor spaces are emotionally grounding and cultivate a strong relationship with nature’.  We are continuing to restore and develop the site. It has so many exciting areas including gardening spaces, wooded areas, wildlife ponds, orchard, classroom, and poly tunnels. We currently have our weekly ‘Mamas in Nature’ group (supporting new mums and babies as transition into parenthood), ‘Making Tracks’ group (supporting young people with additional needs) and different volunteering opportunities as we establish a volunteer programme. We also host a variety of family events and workshops throughout the year. More recently we have been welcoming St Austell College students onto site to gain work experience on their construction course, as well as striving to become a Makaton Friendly Organisation. Liverpool Arabic Centre (LAC) was initially set up as Nadey Al – Cul in 1995 after a group of parents from Yemeni and Arabic backgrounds raised concerns with each other about their children’s educational and personal development which was being affected by negative experiences they were having within schools and unaddressed issues present due having dual heritage backgrounds. The parents’ aim was to set up a club to support children and young people from Yemeni/Arabic backgrounds for whom there was limited support available from statutory services and a lack of knowledge around specific cultural and religious issues. The aim of the club was to instill cultural pride and support the personal development of the children and young people as well as to encourage the development of their own identities within wider society by educating the children in Arabic language and also through promoting Arabic cultural awareness to the wider community particularly local schools through arts, performance and discussion. In September 2000 Nadey Al – Cul changed its name to Liverpool Yemeni Arabic Club (LYAC) to reflect its expanding service provision and provide a focus on its target group of beneficiaries. LYAC’s activities continued to focus on teaching Arabic language to children and young people, organising educational and cultural activities for families and putting on a Yemeni/Arabic festival to promote and encourage cultural awareness to people from non-Arabic backgrounds. LYAC opened its official premises in Lodge Lane in September 2000. A productive partnership was then formed with the Bluecoat Arts Centre – Nadey Al Bluecoat –which has since developed into the highly successful annual Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival. In 2006 LYAC went through a process of re-branding in order to address the changing needs of the community and to cater for the wider Arab communities settling in the Merseyside area in recent years. Dimensions Entertainment is a voluntary unincorporated social enterprise organisation established in 2007 that was initially youth led by a 4 member team of dancers to promote the Carnival Arts and Dance in the London. Dimensions run an extensive outreach learning programme where we engage with over hundreds of young people each year. Our learning workshops provide participants with skills and creative experiences in all forms of Cultural Arts to develop a exclusive dance, drama and costume style, bringing the art to schools, community centres and other organisations a taste of culture, including local regular classes for those that want to learn something new or want further training. We have participated in displays at major events including Tottenham Carnival, Youth Dance day, Seychelles Carnival and many others. Dimensions London is aiming to become one of the leading Carnival Arts and Dance organisations within the UK by honing the past and present traditions of the Carnival and dance and promoting it to our targeted audiences. We also aim to become one of the leaders in training young people and engage those not in employment and education into the Carnival Arts.

Some time ago I was asked what about our school makes me most proud; as I searched for an answer I realized that there are so many things. There are headline achievements, such as our British Schools Overseas accreditation, our children’s attainment in reading and mathematics and our students’ IGCSE examination results. Of course, headline achievements are often based on data. In schools we love producing data to show how good our school is. Sometimes it must seem that we are motivated by this data: by the quest for ever higher examination grades or ever wider age differentials. At the BOS data is not what drives us. For us data sets are markers to show us how far we have come on our journey – data is not an end in itself; it is not the destination. In fact, I’m not convinced that the journey actually has a destination. We are motivated by the process more than the destination.
