Our Development, Training and Support offer is designed to provide essential advice and guidance to enable your church school to flourish. This includes a range of briefings, network meetings and training courses, all of which are either free or offered at significant discount to schools who are signed up to our Service Level Agreement (S4S). In addition, schools who have signed up for Governance+ are able to access all our governor training for no additional charge. Living Your Vision This is the heart of our training and support offer covering the essentials needed to develop a flourishing church school. This work to support developing your school’s Christian vision and ethos includes training for SIAMS self-evaluation and other aspects of SIAMS readiness. It also covers a series of networks and training events to develop and enhance collective worship and spirituality (including Space Makers). HeadSpace This is where you will find our support and training offer for school leaders including our series of briefings (free to schools signed up to S4S) and conferences for our headteachers across the Diocese. Termly virtual briefing sessions will provide an opportunity to hear the latest news and information from the ODBE team including updates from the Church of England Education Office, up to date learning from ongoing SIAMS and Ofsted inspections and upcoming development opportunities. A virtual mini conference and an in-person summer conference provide additional opportunities for school leaders to consider specific aspects of church school leadership – our Autumn conference will look in depth at SIAMS and its impact on school improvement. RE Central Comprises all our development, training and support for the leadership and delivery of high quality RE in schools. This includes half termly networks for RE leaders (free to schools signed up to S4S), the Developmental Thinking conference and training for Early Career Teachers. Governance This is our governance training offer which covers the key aspects of effective governance including induction, SIAMS, RE and Collective Worship, effective monitoring and evaluation, appraisal, induction and academisation. Schools signed up to S4S, our service level agreement, are also able to buy Governance+ which enables all governors to attend our governor training at no additional cost. Cuddesdon College was established in 1854 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, whose vision was for a college independent of any specific Church faction, and with a focus on the discipline of daily prayer and spiritual formation. A merger with Ripon Hall in the 1970s, forming Ripon College Cuddesdon, brought in new resources and fresh thinking, and helped develop a new and open approach to theological study. The incorporation of the Oxford Ministry Course in 2006 (now the Part-time Pathway), the West of England Ministerial Training Course in 2011 (now Cuddesdon Gloucester & Hereford) and the Portsmouth Pathway Cuddesdon in 2015 has enabled the College to offer a wide range of outstanding part-time courses that have been well established for over forty years. From 2014, a partnership with Church Mission Society has enabled us to offer training for Ordained Pioneer Ministers. The Cuddesdon Sisters In 2012, the remaining Sisters from two Anglican religious orders - Communities of St John Baptist and The Good Shepherd - joined the College community, providing a praying presence throughout the year. Sadly, due to the pandemic, they moved in the autumn of 2020 to St Mary's Convent and Nursing Home in Chiswick. We miss them being here greatly but keep in close contact with them. The Community Schools has been successfully supporting students for over 10 years with it’s proven method of shared tutoring. There are no more than three students working with the tutor. Each student is tutored as an individual within the 75 minutes shared session. Each student is given time and space to develop their own understanding, their own confidence and resilience. The tutors are highly experienced and successful classroom teachers and Heads of Departments. Many still work in schools. We all love our teaching and are passionate about helping students to progress and achieve at and beyond their aspirations. We have Learning Centres in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Kesgrave (Ipswich) with over 30 specialist teachers helping in excess of 200 students weekly across Suffolk. Following Lockdown we appreciate that some students need a Face to Face learning environment. We have worked hard to prepare Covid-Secure environments to keep our tutors and students safe. Providing interactive workshops in the community. I invite you to take part in community events whilst discovering and benefiting from Qi Gong, Meditation, and Sound Healing As well as being good for your posture and breathing! Qi Gong is recognised as a form of preventative medicine and studies have shown that those who practice it experience less anxiety and better moods. There’s no age limit, there’s no right or wrong, there’s just a desire to take part and nourish yourself in a shared environment. Qigong embraces nature and reminds us of the rhythm of the seasons. Movement meditations are designed for the physical benefits of improving posture and breathing as well as exploring internal resistance. The philosophy of Qigong is that nature is our teacher. Each session or workshop explores how to release tension, embrace change and harness the energy of the cycle of Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. After a career in Music and the hospitality industry, I re-trained in 2010 in therapeutic sound in the community and then qualified as an instructor in Tai Chi Qi Gong. I continue to study with the Deyin institute in the practice of Tai Chi and Taoist philosophy. Having learned transcendental meditation back in the 80s, self-healing had always been of interest. Having also qualified as a masseuse I have a background in dance and a strong interest in anatomy. I continued to explore using meditation as a means of relaxation whilst incorporating sound healing and movement. My joy is working in community groups with a variety of workshops and sessions I traveled abroad in 2005 to work for a charity in Sarajevo with PTSD sufferers and took some training in this area. I felt drawn to finding ways to help people with trauma to relax and to give themselves time to heal and explore their own physical and emotional journeys. Part of finding a life balance is something we all want to explore. I found the best way for me was a mix of progression in learning as well as in giving and helping charities and worthy organisations. Here’s a list of my contributions. It’s a privilege and not always financially possible but the philosophy is that in giving we receive so it doesn’t always have to be by paying out in money.

Southover Outreach services – Support in schools & Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) The Southover Partnership history The Southover Partnership was born in the summer of 1994 when Carol Frankl made the decision to start up her own company focusing on special educational needs. She launched the company from her home and named it The Southover Partnership: Southover being her place of residence; Partnership because Carol was adamant that her company would be a collaboration between all parties involved. Southover initially emerged from Carol’s disillusionment with the mechanisms for funding special needs and her passion that each child should have a positive educational experience. At the time there were many grant maintained schools that didn’t have access to local authority services due to the method of funding by central government. The Southover Partnership aimed to ensure special educational needs provision could be met. The service began by offering a select group of students support in school and some at-home tuition. It swiftly extended to providing full-time education to these students. Carol expanded Southover’s services and recruited the highest calibre staff to assist in schools as well as at home. Carol’s outstanding reputation in the education sector put her in demand to provide training and consultancy for SENCOs and schools. So great were the requests for Southover’s servicesprovisions that Carol formed her own school for children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties and autism. The Southover Partnership school was officially recognised by the Department for Children, Schools and Families in August 2007, with the first inspection taking place in June 2008. This was a huge achievement for Carol, and a real adventure, as prior to this point much of the education for children out of school was provided by local authorities. Penelope Ody BSc MNIMH Penelope Ody is a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and Fellow of the Herb Society. Hello – and welcome to "Herbs at Walnut", a series of one-day courses on using herbs now in its twentieth year. I have been exploring the fascinating world of herbs for more than 40 years studying initially with the School of Phytotherapy in Kent, UK, and also at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou, China. I practised as a consultant medical herbalist in Buckinghamshire UK, for 11 years while also writing regularly about herbs and editing The Herb Society's various journals from 1988-1994. For the past 20 years I have concentrated on writing books about herbs and lecturing at various courses and summer schools - including Herbs at Walnut which I started in 2002 at my home, Walnut Cottage, in Hampshire. In 2006 these courses were featured in Meridian TV's "Country Lives" series. For most of us, herbs are familiar and readily available plants used for flavouring foods or scenting rooms. Many of them are also potent medicines ideal for using at home as alternatives to over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs for treating a range of health problems. Our great-grandmothers would have been very familiar with home-made medicines but over the decades we have lost the everyday skill of making them. Commercially produced medicines – both orthodox and herbal – have been readily available to meet our needs. Now, thanks to changing legislation and tighter regulatory control, many of these herbal products are no longer available from chemists or health food shops, so we need to re-learn how to make these simple nostrums and to understand which are most suitable and when to use them. Courses at Walnut Cottage cover a range of herbal topics – from using herbs in cooking to making your own creams and ointments to replace those which are no longer quite so easy to find in the shops. Courses are relaxed and informal with small groups – generally no more than six – giving plenty of flexibility to explore your particular interests. Although originally a church, Zion was bought in 2011 by Jess Wright, who lovingly crafted Zion into an essential and well loved hub in Bedminster Down. In the Summer of 2022, members of the community, local businesses and grant organisations came together to purchase Zion as a community share offer! Once a focus for the local community of Bedminster Down, this historic chapel had been left derelict after the congregation could no longer afford to sustain it. Jess wanted to breathe life back into this beautiful building, a real landmark in BS13. She also wanted to create a much-needed community centre in a residential area with few social or cultural venues. She wanted a place where people of all ages and backgrounds (especially those who were isolated or excluded) could meet to improve wellbeing on a personal and community level. Using a small start-up budget of £5,000 (her own money), Jess began renovating the building. Thanks to the support of a small team of volunteers, Zion opened its doors to the community once again; this time as a small-scale café serving coffee and cakes, and offering a few extras such as film nights and kids’ creative sessions. Over the past 11 years, Zion Community Art Space has become ever more popular. It attracts 15,000 people a year and is now open at least five days a week, offering: a daytime community café that serves freshly made food at an affordable price a broad programme of over 200 events and activities a year, ranging from quiz nights and children’s workshops, to live music, theatre, talks and food events regular daytime drop-in groups such as a Memories Café, Creative Writing Group, Local History Group and Breast-Feeding Support an indoor and outdoor private hire venue for weddings, parties and other celebrations

More and more international students attend the Danish Folk High Schools, but what classifies an international Folk High School is that the school has more international than Danish students and that everything at the school happens in English language. International People’s College is the only international ‘general’ Folk High School in Denmark.

Leicester Fencing Club originated from a merger between Huncote FC and Granby Halls FC in June 1989. The club was then known as the Granby Hall FC until it was no longer possible to continue fencing at the venue. Both Steve Wright and Jim Amberton had gone to Alderman Newton school at what is now Leicester Grammar School, Peacock Lane. They approached the headmaster to see whether to have fencing again on the site. Allowing his pupils free coaching, the club moved venue to the school premises. As the Club grew in size it was decided that we would have to find a larger venue. The City of Leicester School in Evington (formally Leicester City Grammar School for Boys) already had a history of fencing there, so the club moved again in 1992 and due to the change of venue a new name was required. CLUB ‘X’ was suggested but was thrown out for being too silly and finally the Leicester Fencing Club emerged from the ashes. The Deputy Head Master of the School (Alan Rudge) supported the move and growth of the Club at the School. We continued fencing there for five years but again had to move this time due to security reasons. Another venue was sought and we approached Aylestone Leisure Centre. They accepted us with open arms and the rest has been, as they say, history. The club not only looks after Foil, the club’s main weapon, but now Sabre and Epee are coached. The club provides beginner groups for youth and adults which are structured to the British Fencing Association’s Achievement Awards Scheme, all provided by a well-trained and qualified coaching team. We also support our more experienced members with weekly sessions available for further education towards higher grades or simply a safe environment to have a bit of fun. Our sessions run on Tuesdays for Foil (and Epee where in demand) and Fridays for Sabre Cadets (under 18s). Both groups meet from 7pm until 9pm during term times and occasionally run during the half term breaks and summer holiday, dependent on availability of coaches. Heatherwood's Equestrian Academy is available for private & small group lessons or you may join us for one of our week-long summer day camps. The Academy teaches safety around horses, horse anatomy, proper grooming, feeding and housing, equipment use and learning to "tack up" a horse. Riding covers proper seat, leg and hand position as well as learning to walk, trot and canter using correct diagonals, leads and gait. Each rider will be assessed to determine the pace at which they will advance to the next level. Heatherwood's goal is not only to teach horsemanship to our students, but to foster a bond between the rider and horse in order to develop a sense of awareness and sensitivity to the special attributes of their relationship. Every animal and guest at Heatherwood is treated with respect and kindness. Children often gain self-confidence and independence in their abilities to care for themselves and our animal friends. Private & Small group lessons - Offered in eight week sessions consisting of a 1/2 hour session each week. Small groups consist of two riders. Riders should plan extra time both before & after each lesson to help groom & tack up their horse if able to do so. Heatherwood facilities offer indoor & outdoor riding arenas for year round instruction. We also take students on our riding trails. We welcome adult & child riders of all levels, from beginners to those ready to advance to jumping. Whether you want to learn to ride for pleasure, advance to horse shows, or ride for an excellent way to exercise, Heatherwood Academy will tailor a program for your interests. Birthday parties - For up to ten children with riding lessons given for the party guests. We provide the cake, drinks, & decorations. Your guests learn about different breeds of horses & will groom a horse. Parties are scheduled year round. Boy & Girl Scout Troops - Individuals or the whole troop may come to Heatherwood to work on and earn merit badges. Educational Programs - Offered to schools & special groups, in the classroom or outdoors (weather permitting) or visit Heatherwood for an educational field trip. Horse Drawn Carriage rides - For special occasions such as proms, weddings, anniversaries, business events, etc. Horse Drawn Sleigh rides - Winter fun for the whole family.
