At Siobhan Davies Studios we believe in the power of dance for artistic and social change. We connect artists, neighbours and audiences through investigative, collaborative and creative activities at our studios and beyond. Artist and female-led since we were founded, Siobhan Davies Studios has been part of the contemporary dance landscape since the 1980s. Our studios are a place to play, question and experiment and we bring this spirit into all areas of our work. In the last five years, shaped by leadership changes, we have renewed focus on bringing marginalised voices to the fore to evolve a broader community of artists, participants, audiences and workers. We engage the public through classes, performances and co-created participatory activities prioritising engagement with local communities. From 2020, increased budgets in access support for artists and audiences aim to break the status quo of privilege surpassing inclusion. Current local partnerships include working with neighbouring Charlotte Sharman primary school, and charities Su Mano Amiga and Good Chance Theatre. Our award-winning public arts building is in the diverse and densely populated area of Elephant and Castle. We share our space with Independent Dance, with whom we hold Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation consortium status. Find out more about visiting our studios here. Read about our founder, Siobhan Davies, and the history of the company and the building on the Our Founder and History pages of the website.

Friends of St. Michael’s was registered with the Charity Commission in 2009. Fiona, a Trustee, had a wonderful time at St. Michael’s in her Gap Year in 2002. She returned to the school every year and started the building of the library. Other visits followed by members of her family and friends - all being moved by the love and friendship they received, and the drive and desire to do something to help. logo It was decided that the best way to give a clear focus to the efforts to support the school, both in practical ways on the ground and to help with fundraising, was to form a charity. Bishop Willigers Secondary School is next door to St. Michael’s. To encourage transition from primary to secondary and help support the parents it was felt necessary to encompass Bishop Willigers SS and the immediate community into our charitable aims. The charity is education and welfare-focused - to advance the education and welfare of the 600+ children at St. Michael's, the building and development of Bishop Willigers Secondary (300 pupils) and to help the immediate community - the village of Namunyumya. As a small charity with no overheads, such as salaries or rent, we are able to ensure that all donations go to where they are needed. At least 2 of the trustees travel out separately on an annual basis to oversee the various projects, sleeping at St. Michael's and getting involved with the life of the school and community. How We Work We are a small “kitchen table” UK registered charity. By this we mean we have no premises, only our own homes, and no equipment except that which we use in our everyday lives. Our trustees all volunteer their time and experience. At least 2 of the trustees travel to Namunyumya to oversee the projects every year and all donations are used in support of our Charitable Objectives. We feel strongly that all money given to the charity goes to help the schools and and the village of Namunyumya. We work closely with St Michael’s and the other village schools, staff, parents and school managements and the village of Namunyumya to ensure that all money and gifts are being spent wisely and on projects that are sustainable. Communication with the schools and community takes place frequently. In this way our support can be focused, relevant and up to date.

England

We’re set on a single-site campus, so just about everything you need is close by, whether it be your tutors, your friends, your lectures or the places in which you like to relax. We began life in 1862 as an Anglican teacher training college for women. To mark our centenary in 1962, our name was changed to incorporate the current ‘Bishop Grosseteste’ title, in honour of Robert Grosseteste, the thirteenth century scientist, philosopher, educator, and Bishop of Lincoln (so he’s the one you have to thank for the long name!). In 2012 we achieved full university status and haven’t looked back since. We’ve seen a lot of things come and go since 1862, but we’ve never stopped providing first-class education and turning out high-calibre graduates who go out into the world and change people’s lives for the better. In recent years we’ve undergone an explosion of growth in many areas, remaining a small and friendly university whilst expanding and developing our portfolio of courses into more exciting new areas than ever before. We still consider ourselves experts in education – we have been doing it for 160 years after all – but our teaching courses now sit alongside an exciting range of other disciplines. We currently educate over 2,000 students in a wide range of subjects – within our ever-expanding undergraduate portfolio, our traditional PGCE teacher training routes, work-based Foundation Degrees, Master's courses and even Doctoral study (and much more in between). We pride ourselves on being a supportive community, always striving to improve the lives of our students. We’re exceptionally proud of the fact that, over the past 160 years, our commitment to first-class education has remained consistent. Our students are some of the happiest in the UK, which is incredibly important to us. We really care about our students and aim to support them all of the way through their studies, from application to graduation. Life after BGU is extremely important and we offer many different methods of support for your future career along the way.

Barking Abbey School, A Specialist Sports And Humanities College

Barking

BARKING ABBEY SCHOOL IS A VERY LARGE SCHOOL ON TWO CAMPUSES IN EAST LONDON THAT SERVES THE BOROUGHS OF BARKING & DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE. We are a non-selective, comprehensive twelve form entry school with a proud tradition of academic and sporting success. The school is very popular in the local community for both Year 7 and sixth form admissions and is heavily oversubscribed. Barking Abbey School was founded in 1922 as one of the first co-educational grammar schools in England at the site in Longbridge Road. At the time, it was situated in a largely rural area, with fields and farmland close by. Gradually, as Barking began to expand as a residential centre, the school became the focal point for the community with an educational provision of national standing. In 1970, Barking Abbey Grammar School was merged with Park Modern School to form the Barking Abbey School we know today. Many traditions of the old schools remain, but with important developments to enable the school and its pupils to be fully prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of life in the twenty-first century. One thing remains central, however: we are an outstanding success. Barking Abbey school has a very large Sixth Form with approximately 450 students. As a result of this we are able to offer a large range of courses to our 16-19 year olds. We are proud of the fact that we are a multi-cultural community and we seek to celebrate our diversity in as many ways as possible. Tolerance of, respect for, and understanding of others are vital aspects of preparing young people for adult life. We want all of our pupils to Belong, Aspire, Succeed.

BEAUTIFUL SOUL, I'M SO GLAD YOU'VE LANDED HERE. TRUST THAT YOU'RE HERE FOR A REASON.  Welcome. I hope this marks the beginning of a transformative journey for you.  My name is Sally, and I discovered energy healing when I was seeking solace for my own struggles with poor mental health. I came to a point on my path where I felt that if I did not heal, I may not survive here on Earth. So, I sought healing through yoga, meditation and lifestyle changes, which led me to energy healing, sound healing, light language, plant medicine, nature and community. What I didn’t anticipate, was that I would be strongly called to train and offer healing for others. I answered the call. I believe that my many dances with darkness and my own healing journey have provided me with the experience and initiations required to work with energy, support others, listen to, and truly emphasise with the tremendous pain that one can feel when navigating dark or unsettling periods of life. I am still healing, evolving and learning, but these practices have truly transformed my life, so I feel incredibly honoured to share them with you.  Energy healing can support us on our path in a myriad of ways. If you’re feeling lost, stuck, at a cross-roads, or struggling with poor self-image, self-worth, indecision, or illness, energy healing can help us to find balance, clarity and encourage our body’s natural ability to heal.  It can also offer us so much more. Embarking on a healing journey can help us to reconnect with our soul purpose, our reason for being here on earth at this time. It can support us in recovering our gifts and passions, and help us to find our inner fire so that we can share them with others, or step more fully into who we truly are.  You hold so much knowledge and wisdom inside of you, but so many of us have forgotten how to tap into our inner truth or connect to our intuition. I create sacred spaces and ceremony, so that you can remember who you are. To reawaken your inner fire, release trauma, and connect to likeminded souls in beautiful community.  We do not need to walk this path alone, and it would be my honour to connect with and support you on this strange, remarkable, and joyous journey through life.
