Concordia is a charity based in Brighton. Our mission is to support people to develop skills and gain experiences so that they can thrive. We run programmes that change lives and nurture global citizens who care about each other, their local communities and the world. We are part of a global community – we work with partners and people from all over the world. All our projects are impactful - whether they are just up the road from us or on the other side of the world. We do this by working with local communities delivering programmes that respond to local needs. Concordia was founded in 1943 to recruit volunteer labour to encourage peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Second World War. Since then, Concordia has supported around three-quarters of a million people to undertake incredible programmes that support local communities all over the world. Our work as a charity supplies five core services: CYA (Concordia Youth Action), International Volunteering, NCS (National Citizens Service), Seasonal Workers Programme and our Wellbeing Programme. Although all our programmes vary, they are all motivated by our desire to make the world a better place. CYA (Concordia Youth Action) Concordia works to improve local communities across Sussex. The young people we work with locally are passionate about making positive change and we help them do so. Launched in 2020, Concordia Youth Action (CYA) is a programme of blended volunteering (on and offline sessions and social action) that enables young people in the UK to engage with their local community through regular volunteering and skills sessions. As an official partner of the National Skills Builder Programme, our CYA programmes improve participant’s transferable skills, supports engagement and improvement of the local community, and develops citizenship.

Malet Lambert has a long and proud history, dating back to 1932. Once a grammar school, it became a community comprehensive school in 1968 and it continues to be true to the word ‘comprehensive’ some 50 years later. Having taught in many schools and as a member of the senior leadership team at previous schools too, I am immensely proud to be at the forefront of the everyday running of this ambitious school. I joined Malet Lambert in 2014 as a Deputy Headteacher, before becoming Head of School in 2016 and, therefore, I now know our pupils, staff and community well. From our thorough transition process in Year 6 through to the close mentoring and support for our pupils taking public examinations in Year 11, we put the needs of individual pupils at the heart of everything we do. At Malet Lambert, we pride ourselves upon having high aspirations. These will ensure that all of our pupils meet their potential by creating a safe, yet vibrant learning environment, which sees first class teaching and learning every single day. We are very fortunate to have such a caring, skilled and dedicated set of teachers, support staff and governors here at Malet Lambert; ultimate professionals who are dedicated to the pupils. Having become part of The Education Alliance (TEAL) in 2016, this has only reinforced the support for our pupils further, by allowing us to work in partnership with other successful schools. 2018 saw us achieve a ‘Good’ Ofsted grading under the new criteria, as well as becoming an Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship School - the only one in the region. We teach three core subjects; Qur’an, Islamic Studies and Qur’anic Arabic for 6 to 16+ year olds. We also have an Arabic wing dedicated to Arabic speaking children. We strive to attain the highest possible standards within the school. Staff work together with the pupils to ensure we achieve and maintain our goals. Our main purpose is to please Allaah ﷻ and provide a high standard of Islamic educational to our students. ILC aims to offer a happy and vibrant Islamic environment for learning and helping to ignite the light of knowledge in the hearts of all students. This is achieved through dedication and teamwork. It is built on a foundation to please Allaah (awj) following His beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) . We expect all teachers to interact and teach our students by following the way that our Prophet did and to adhere to our key values. Who are we? We are Revved Up. We provide paid work experience for young people from L8 and the surrounding areas to prevent them from being involved in serious organised crime. What do we do? Young, disadvantaged people who are at risk are given opportunities to recruit for and co-facilitate youth projects, events and community consultations. During their time with us, young people are given the opportunity to join our list of members, contribute to/learn the operations/ day-to-day running of our community business, they are all also given personal development programmes, 1:1 coaching and mentoring, social prescribing and business start-up advice. We have regular staff trips and excursions to come up with ideas and celebrate recent successes, these are all chosen by the young people. Our community business originates from another organisation called This Is My Story Limited (TIMS). Over 5 years ago TIMS was founded by Phillip Taylor (1957-2021) Adam Taylor, Sophie Middleman, Mike Hobbs and Deborah Fitzsimmons. The purpose of this organisation was to work with disadvantaged young people involved in crime, drug activity, addiction and those who had severe mental health problems. Adam and his family have spent most of their lives in Toxteth L8 Liverpool and it is one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country. The majority of the work that TIMS did was in Toxteth working with young people (all of whom were referred by word of mouth) that needed help in one of these areas. When TIMS was 2 years old, our founder (Adam Taylor) noticed that the young people he was working with through TIMS expressed a desire to follow in his footsteps and decided to try and make that happen, that is when he started Revved Up Limited.

Hall Farm Eastoft has been farmed by the Coulman family for some 150 years or more and over time the land has produced a wide range of arable crops and been home to cattle, pigs, chickens and more recently alpacas. Extending to around 235 hectares (575 acres) of land the farm grow wheat, oilseed rape, sugar beet, potatoes and grass, as well as maintaining an extensive environmental scheme to enhance the natural habitat. It is important to us to farm to the highest environmental, sustainable and welfare standards which means we subscribe to a range of key industry standards and generate much of our energy and resources from sustainable sources. As members of Red Tractor Assurance schemes for both crop production and our pig production, as well as Freedom Food, British Quality Pork and Global Animal Partnership schemes for our pigs, we ensure that all our produce meets high production standards and enters the food chain. We generate all our power from our Solar PV system, powering lights, feed systems, grain driers and our vehicles and use a Biomass boiler to provide heat. In addition, around 90% of our water use is either borehole sourced or from rainwater harvesting ensuring we minimise our use of mains, treated water and rely on naturally produced water. The farm has hosted educational visits for many years, supported by Natural England’s environmental schemes, and has developed this educational support since 2017 into a social farm engaging with young people and adults, empowering them to develop skills to enrich their learning, wellbeing and social life. With our focus on sustainable, environmentally friendly farming coupled with our increasing community of social farmers, here at Hall Farm Eastoft we aim to provide a community farming operation benefiting the environment and the local community.

Heavy metal therapy is an online resource and community of people who find metal music helpful for mental well being. It is a place to find and share experiences of how metal has helped us, the meaning we take from songs or lyrics, and play lists that we have found useful. It is for everyone, so we don’t judge each others metal preferences. If you would like to share your own recovery story about how metal has helped you please contact us, we can make stories anonymous if you prefer. We continue to develop a few shared playlists under heavy metal therapy, which can be expanding and changing. We like people to share their own music or art if it comes with a reason/message to do with mental health. We may be a small and select group, but we are open to suggestions of expanding. Hopefully over time this will become led by and shaped by those who use it, so it’s not set in stone, it can grow and change. See this video for a bit more about us. Also, all things metal tend to be quite sweary and have dark themes, so there’s quite a bit of that in the stories and playlists.
