The Research Ethics Association (REA) The Research Ethics Association (REA) brings together academia, industry and local organisations across all disciplines with the aim of opening up and applying cross-discipline research ethics, contributing to ethical practice and research. REA is led by a team of people across the South West of England and Wales consisting of academics, doctoral researchers, professional services and local and national organisations. Originally established as a conference, the REA was founded in 2020 by a team of volunteer academics from the South-West and Wales. The initiative was born out of the need to institutionalise an interdisciplinary response to ethical practice, beyond micro responses in the form of university committees and industry protocols. The REC2021 conference, which took place Online, was a massive success hosting over 400 attendees from across 53 countries worldwide. The interest academic, industry workers and government organisations showed in taking part in this conversation heightened us on the urgency of continuing this project on a biannual basis, establishing ourselves as an association (processes still in place). We want to encourage academics, industry staff and government employees to be part of the conversation, innovating, exploring and breaking down boundaries that surround and stiffen our perception of ethics, ethical research, and ethical practice.

With over two decades experience supporting pet carers pre, during and post the death of their much loved pets, Dawn Murray is one of the UK’s leading pet bereavement counsellors. Dawn has always, and continues to, provide her counselling services free of charge. Amongst her qualifications Dawn has Diploma's in Pet Bereavement Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and worked for many years as a Pet Undertaker. She is a qualified CPD presenter. Recognised as an expert in her field Dawn is described by the press as a 'Pet Bereavement Specialist'. Dawns work as a pet undertaker was highlighted in a BBC documentary and she is regularly asked to participate in both local and national Radio and television programmes, and most recently she was invited onto the 'PM' show on BBC Radio 4 where she was asked to discuss pet bereavement after Prince William and Catherine lost their dog, Lupo. Dawns unique style allows clients to feel at ease safe in the knowledge that she will support and guide them through their darkest days and clients are referred to her by Veterinary Schools and Doctors. She has experienced pet bereavement many times herself and fully understands the devastating impact a loss like this can have on your life. Dawn is also the founder of Ray of Hope and has raised thousands of pounds over the years to help animal charities. Dawn has also provided pet bereavement training free of charge to charities here in the UK for many years including most recently the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and Canine Partners. Dawn lives in West Lothian with her husband Dave, their gorgeous whippets Cammy & Georgie and their stunning tortoiseshell cat Hilda.

Thistle Aikikai is a member of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under the technical direction of T.K Chiba Shihan. The Chief Instructor, Michael Flynn Shihan began his study of Aikido in 1982 at San Diego Aikikai under the direction of Shihan TK Chiba. He was named Shihan in June of 2005 and was awarded 7th Dan by Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru on 14 January 2018 during the Kagami Baraki celebration at Hombu Dojo. He was formally awarded his Shihan Certificate in a ceremony at Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in November 2006 by the second Doshu, Ueshiba Moriteru. He has also received Iaido Shihan title from Mitsuzuka Sensei. Since arriving in Scotland, Flynn Sensei has established the Thistle Aikikai. He serves as the Chairman and Technical Director of Scottish and Borders Birankai. Thisle Aikikai offers beginner through to advanced classes in Aikido and weapons. All are welcome. Instruction in Iaido , the art of drawing the sword and striking a killing blow, is also offered at Thistle Aikikai. In Iaido, students learn to use the sword not merely as a tool for cutting down one’s enemy, but as a method of allowing the mind and body to become more harmonious with nature. During training, students will learn the forms of the Muso Shinden Ryu Iai as developed by Nakayama Hakudo Sensei, with a goal toward synchronizing their breathing and body motions within the techniques in order to understand and practice the efficient use of the body. The club trains at the Iain Nicolson Recreation Centre, Chryston Road, Chryston, G69 9NA and the UFC Hall, G69 9ND (near Glasgow), Scotland (Phone 01326 631465). See below for a map. We are a charity that works with young people who are homeless, leaving care, or at risk of homelessness in the South West.1625 Independent People works with young people who are homeless, leaving care or at risk of homelessness in Bristol and the South West. Our services ranges from signposting or advice, to intensive one-to one support, supported housing, group activities and peer support. As well as providing safe, stable accommodation, we provide practical and emotional support to ensure vulnerable young people can build healthy relationships, develop independent living skills and can access jobs and training. We nurture the existing skills, strengths and talent in young people, to show them they can believe in themselves, and that they have the skills to thrive as an independent adult. Our staff are trained to provide emotional support, as young people often have histories that involve trauma and disrupted family life. We know that positive relationships based on trust, mutual respect and dignity is the key tool for change for young people.
