Tilingatar Higher Secondary School , a Government School , gradually upgraded, is situated at Dhapasi in Kathmandu in 2019 BS (1962 A.D.). The school was established as Panchakanya Primary School ‘ in Dhapasi VDC with popular enthusiasm for education that followed the great output in those days upto now as the Tilingatar Higher Secondary School . The school is aiming at being regarded as the model Government school in national stature. Today the school is one of the most popular schools in Kathmandu valley both in terms of quality and prestige. We’ve about 1350 students studying and 41 teaching staff and employees working here enthusiastically. The social status of students is very low because of the low economic and social background of their parents. Most parents are living below the poverty lines who are unable to pay the nominal charges of the school fee and even to buy books, stationery and school uniform. Almost 75% of the students are from low economic background.

The Friends of Eritrea was established in the Northwest of the UK during the period of famine and war in Eritrea in 1985. Academic and Scientific staff at the University of Liverpool and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a network of colleagues and friends throughout the UK, came together to provide physical and financial support and expert advice and lobbying on behalf of famine and conflict-ravaged communities and services. Visits to assess needs and advise on reconstruction of medical, veterinary, agricultural, social and educational services were undertaken by expert members of the group. At the start, members were involved in collecting blankets, books and other materials for the war zones of Eritrea. Between 1986 and 1988 the group sent several containers of essential materials. Money was raised - from donations, from plant and car-boot sales and street collections to make grants ranging from a few hundred to £7,000 to fund transport, travel and relief and development materials. Several members of the group, including our much-missed Founder-member and Honorary President, the late Dr. John Black, (pictured), were also members of the Eritrean Medical Association/UK which played an important role in mobilising medical aid for war-torn Eritrea. After the end of the War members of both groups decided to jointly form one group to be called “The Friends of Eritrea in the United Kingdom” and to expand membership. At the end of 1995 the society was registered as a company limited by guarantee and became a registered charity (No 1052161) in January 1996. The main aims of the society are to foster friendship between the Eritrean and British people and to assist in the transfer of appropriate technologies to schools, institutions of higher learning and other centres in Eritrea, which combat poverty, sickness and underdevelopment. .Membership is open to all Friends of Eritrea who support the objects of the society. Friends of Eritrea work with other Charities and Public and Private groups and individuals, wherever appropriate. So far, we have been able to support: £10,000 worth of Food, Medical supplies and transport costs to the Eritrean Relief and Refugee Commission, (ERRECC). £3000 for Computer equipment for the Adi Ugri Secondary School. Collection and Transport of several containers of books, IT equipment, educational and relief materials, including the Keren Library Project. Small Travel and Transport subsidies including £500 each towards the visit of the Parliamentary Human Rights Group and to Mr S. Marcos of AGE, (Action Group for Eritrea), to support AGE's own project to supply books to Eritrean schools, We continue, with our Friends in Manchester and elsewhere, to collect money and materials to support Educational and Community projects in Eritrea. In 2015 we intend to develop stronger links with the Decamere Orphanage with a view to identifying further projects that we can support. Our most grateful thanks go to all of colleagues and Friends in the UK and in Eritrea, for all their hard work and dedication.

Preserving is something I have loved doing ever since I can remember – I have memories as a very small person helping my Mother to make jars of jam ready for the Winter. I could only just see over the kitchen table but loved all the neat rows with their cellophane tops and labels. I made my first chutney alone and unaided when I was about 11 years old - I don't know what my Mother was thinking of - but I was delighted with the result and embarked upon trying out more recipes over the next few years. Preserving has been a lifelong passion and I have enjoyed experimenting with creating my own recipes which is after all, the roots of preserving in the first place. Our ancestors used what they knew with what they had in order to extend the life of food that they farmed or foraged in order to feed their families, and to survive. Nowadays, preserving can be more of an enjoyable hobby but is still an important means of making the most of what we grow or harvest or maybe find as bargains at the market. It makes a significant contribution to the family diet by adding nourishment, variety, and flavour to everyday meals. Nowadays, when we are all trying to make ends meet it is even more important to make sure we make the most of all that we can and prevent waste. about rosie making jam age 5 I now live in rural Rutland with husband Trevor, love good food, chickens and knitting (when I'm not making jam!) With teaching jam and preserve making and Master Classes, talks and demonstrations, writing, running my own Artisan preserves business, LoveJars and being Nanny to four grandsons, life is busy. We are a specialised training company from Selkirk in the Scottish Borders started by Craig Douglas in 1991 who offer quality training that is recognised world wide, training conducted with a personal touch. Over the years we have conducted training for various oil companies and drilling contractors. As time has passed JCD have developed other training courses to suit client needs/requirements. We have assisted in the making of a Crane Inspection and Crane Safety Checks training video, had five safety hand books published (Crane Operator, Rigger/Slinger/Signaller, Fork Lift Truck Operator, Confined Space Entry and Helicopter Landing Officer/Helicopter Refuelling) Following being audited by LEEA from UK we are now associate members and are accredited training providers of LEEA for UK stage 2 and 3 Offshore Crane Operators and Offshore Crane Inspection. Delighted to be joining PST Training (joint venture) and conducting our three LEEA-approved training courses at their excellent training establishment in Vietnam.

All of our courses are ran at our training centre in Howdon which has good links to the A19 and the Tyne Tunnel, whilst also being just a 2 minute walk from Howdon Metro Station. As well as our courses we also take referral's from "Working Links" for anyone unemployed and seeking to start a new career. Hands on Training is an approved training provider and has accreditation to offer qualifications on behalf of the NOCN. All our courses are practical hands on and there is no classroom study. Theory work is important, but we believe the best place to do this in the comfort of your own home. With the paperwork that we supply you, and books that we can advise you on, we feel this to be the best option.
