It’s inbuilt, so why not learn to use it to your advantage to turn ideas into actions and outcomes? We met at university at the tail end of the last millennium, on a theatre studies BA. Josh then worked with vulnerable adults for a housing association, whilst developing his skills as a storytelling performer in museums, festivals and schools. Lily continued post graduate studies at Central School of Speech and Drama and gained an MA at Goldsmiths, while devising theatre productions as a director. Our paths crossed again on a project with young actors in Mumbai where we discovered we enjoyed working together. On our return we started to deliver open storytelling workshops as a means to develop our product and explore its uses and applications. Initially, we thought storytelling was perfect for presentation skills and museum tours. Now we also use it to investigate and build understanding with individuals and in collaborative groups as well as to grow connections, values and relationships. Ben Joiner became one of the core team in 2014. We were drawn to his in-depth knowledge and expertise in voice and body-language and his gift to comfortably take people outside their comfort zone. Over the past couple of decades, we have honed our skills and our love of training and coaching. We have stayed curious, and use that curiosity to help us adapt and evolve how we use storytelling to the benefit of contemporary working life.

Our BA (Hons) Professional Photography one-year top-up degree is unique to Scotland. The degree is taught at Edinburgh College and validated by Kingston University London. It is delivered in only one academic year and is open to applications who are progressing from a two-year HND in Photography. In-house colour-managed printing is available from our new Focal Point, a purpose-built digital printing and retouching lab. 35 Design Space is an interactive studio set up to share craft knowledge and bring creative classes to all. Our classes are hands on and we hope that you learn a new skill and have a great time doing it! We aim to provide a creative learning environment to support and inspire fellow crafters. Alongside offering current and innovative workshop classes we want to promote historical textile crafts and share these endangered crafts to encourage their revival. If you wish to arrange a private event or book a custom made session please get in touch. Our studio can accommodate parties of up to 15. We'd love to help you celebrate occasions such as your birthday, baby shower, hen party and Christmas events with a workshop tailored to you. Welcome to our Espression Arts Family, make yourself at home whilst I pop the kettle on. How are you today? Espression Arts is a creative community led by Me, Catherine, the founder, the glue behind our special, arty enterprise. I live in a small village partner to a very patient Daddy Jean who puts up with the hours of work and energy we give to projects and our clients. I am Mummy to my two beautiful children, Melodie 7, and Jerome 11, who are often with me on projects and at events, along with Daisy Dog who sometimes comes along too! I grew up with a creative and hard-working family, My dedication, work ethic, and focus for things I believe in, I get from them. My Mum who now lives with Parkinson’s in an annex in our garden spends her spare time when she isn’t bowling in the village as one of Espression Arts many creative volunteers. If I am not working I am found snuggling on the sofa watching films with a gin and tonic! Whilst studying Visual Arts at Goldsmiths University London I enjoyed spending my spare time getting to know the local community, working in pubs, and helping with play schemes. Since then, I spent 25 years developing my community facilitation and project management skills starting in youth work management working for an environmental charity in Southeast London. In 2009 we left the big city and started our Pottery Painting Community Journey in the historic town of Canterbury, opening our interactive arts café. This is where our family grew with everyone who loved pottery painting as much as we did! Sadly, the interactive arts café, closed at the end of 2020 during the Covid19 Pandemic, but we are still going strong! We continue sharing arts and wellbeing experiences with others! Happily our Espression Arts Family is just getting bigger and bigger as a result. In 2017, our family business became not for profit and became a Social Enterprise which has helped us to take profits from sales of our ceramic products, parties, and workshops, combined with successful grant applications, and deliver some of the best community projects in Kent. I am proud of our position in the local community feel respected for both business and charitable, endeavours, before the pandemic we were awarded Kent Messenger Best Creative Volunteer Project for both Canterbury and all of Kent, we were even finalists for Kent Dementia Friendly Awards. Our Pre-School was opened in September 2013 and extended in 2017 to accommodate 30 hours funding. The building was purpose built and designed to ensure that we provide a happy and nurturing environment where children can learn through play whilst having lots of fun. We treat each child as an individual who has needs that should be met in an atmosphere that celebrates diversity. We will nurture your child’s social and emotional needs. We want children, parents and staff to learn together and for all to develop to their maximum potential. Our aim is to provide the first steps of learning for our youngest children. We want to work in partnership with families to provide high quality education which is fun, creative and motivating. Our website is designed to share as much as we can with you. If you wish to have a look round or require any further information please don’t hesitate to contact us via The Hall School Office. We receive Nursery Education Funding (FEEE) for 3 and 4 year olds. This means that the term after a child is 3 he/she will be entitled to between 15-30 hours free sessions per week for 38 weeks per year. The Pre-School is closed during the school holidays. Our Pre-School is registered and inspected by Ofsted. We are registered to take 60 children at each session and we offer lunch time cover too. We are more than happy to discuss eligibility.
