Taking our inspiration from everyday objects, (cups, bowls etc) collections &nbsp;of natural forms (shells, feathers, leaves) or other types of personal memorabilia as a starting point for developing themes we will create our own layered, collage and stitch &lsquo;Still Life&rsquo; or &lsquo;Landscape/Nature Study&rsquo;
Found paper, fabric scraps and found materials will be combined with transferring of images and stitch as a means for informing work for the development of new ideas. These will be constructed on a small canvas .
Please bring to the workshop:
A waterproof pen, scissors, regular sewing thread, pins and needle. &nbsp;A few hand threads in your preferred colour range
Small portable kit of painting media you may like to use (can be watercolour, Koh I Noor, Inktense whatever you have)
Also useful is a camera for documentation, notebook, drawing media.
Sewing machine with free motion capability (optional). Embroidery hoop.
Collection of waste papers and gathered fabric scraps: Examples. Brown wrapping paper or large brown envelopes, tissue paper, patterned paper bags, photocopies of images relating to your theme, magazines, oriental specialist papers, prints, lace, scraps of cotton, linen, silk fabrics with or without prints- various sizes. All should fit into one small bag
PPE (face shields, gloves and aprons) and hand sanitiser will be available for all of our workshops.
Tea and coffee facilities will be available, but you are also welcome to bring your own refreshments.

This course is ideal for all, from beginners to confident makers. You will learn the basics of leather craft for accessories and be introduced to techniques including machine stitching on leather, hand finishing and hand cutting. You will also be working with the full spectrum of leather types from soft leathers and suedes to a hard sturdy veg tanned leather. This is a perfect introductory course to start your journey into leatherwork and bag making as you will experience the wide variety of tasks involved in the work. In order to complete your bag in a day we will use part pre-prepared components and the bag will be made from a &lsquo;Hands of Tym&rsquo; pattern but do not fear there is still plenty of work for you to do.During the day you will be directed by your tutor Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer Georgie Tym to make:A fully lined &#39;Turned seam&#39; &#39;W Base&#39; Medium Leather Tote bag with raw edge straps. 'Bag in a Day' Practical Leather Course - Tote Bag

Learn to make colourful monotype prints without the need for a press. 
In this 3-hour private class, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art.&nbsp;We&rsquo;ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps. Textures could be chosen to match the reason for the celebration.
We&rsquo;ll then take our completed prints and use them to create a collection of unique greeting cards, which could be themed with messages to suit the occasion, e.g. happy birthday, wedding wishes, good luck, festive fun, you&#39;ve got this!, and so on.&nbsp;You will take home a set of up to 10 one-off, hand-printed greeting cards, with matching envelopes. &nbsp;<hr fr-original-style="" style="border-color: var(--border-muted); border-style: solid; clear: both; break-after: page; user-select: none; box-sizing: border-box;">

The Arienas Collective private classes are run from our supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh&rsquo;s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, along with light refreshments.&nbsp;
Private classes can be themed to suit the occasion, such as a special birthday, hen do, or family celebration. Just let us know when booking and we can discuss the options, including any additional charge, with you in advance.
On full day classes you are welcome to bring your own lunch. Alternatively, there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, caf&eacute;s, supermarkets and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. We can also provide a buffet style lunch for you if you prefer.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. The workshop space is in our home which is&nbsp;not&nbsp;nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.

This five week course, run by Fiona, will run on Thursday mornings from 10.30 til 1 from 4th of March (original date from 14th jan). Suitable for complete beginners, and those with some prior experience who would like to refresh and develop their skills further.&nbsp;
During the course we will cover different approaches to working creatively with clay. This will include handbuilding, wheel throwing and using press moulds. You will be able to experiment with surface decoration; painting with coloured slips, creating patterns and textures, and glazing. If you've been on a course before you might like to plan some pieces, or perhaps scale up.&nbsp;
Limited class sizes (four places), so lots of hands on support and enough space for everyone. You will be given one to one input while on the wheel.&nbsp;
&pound;185 per person, inclusive of booking fee, use of tools, materials, preparation, and firings.&nbsp;This is a slight increase from last year due to restrictions on numbers and increased overheads.
Cyan Clayworks is a social enterprise and working ceramic studio, run by ceramic makers Fiona and Chris.&nbsp;The studio is spacious, bright and airy, in the bigger complex of Beaverhall Studios.

Cyan Clayworks is a non-profit artist-run studio, offering tuition in ceramics at all levels. This course will be run by both Fiona and Chris, held over 5 Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8.30pm. It is aimed at those who have been on a course previously (this could be a taster class or a longer course, either with us or elsewhere) and would like to build upon what they know already. Perhaps you would like to develop your wheelthrowing skills, or refine your handbuilding, scale your pieces up, learn about monoprinting, or have a particular project you'd like to focus on. It could be an opportunity to experiment in a new technique that you haven't tried before. Each week will include one or two different practical demonstrations, from throwing, coil building, slabbuilding and surface decoration using slips and glazes. These will focus on a more in depth approach than our beginners classes. Once we have an idea of what students want to explore we can include other demonstrations. We will work with each student to help you develop your ideas and enable you to focus on areas you are most interested in. With both of us teaching, and a strictly limited class size, there will be plenty of hands on support. All work is fired for you, and materials, firings etc are included.
