Having seen the benefits of first aid training, in giving individuals the knowledge and confidence to help in an emergency, I think it's important that as many of us as possible gain these skills. My career as a nurse in both hospitals and schools has given me both the knowledge and practical experience to deliver first aid training in a way that is effective, practical and fun. Career I have worked in busy hospital environments across many areas, including Accident and Emergency, Intensive Care, High Dependency and on a variety of wards. It's certainly been an interesting and challenging career, working alongside many dedicated and skilled colleagues. I started teaching first aid in a school setting, delivering courses to various staff members, from maintenance teams to headteachers. It was through this that I realised how important it was to make training practical and fun in order to engage trainees and build their confidence. Having a degree in psychology is highly useful when it comes to delivering our Mental Health First Aid courses. I am passionate about using my skills and knowledge to make first aid accessible to everyone, so that as individuals we can ‘make a difference’ when it matters most. Removing the fear of “what if I do something wrong” or “I don’t know what to do”, by teaching adults and children essential knowledge & skills, is extremely rewarding. Career I am a highly experienced Customer Services Professional, specialising in First Aid training and staff development. Throughout my long career, in both nursing and as a Senior Cabin Crew Member for a major airline, I have been involved in training and coaching; helping my colleagues to reach their full potential within the workplace. I have also worked in many other environments delivering Nursing care & First Aid. I've recently completed my own Level 3, Ofqual regulated Community First Responder Course with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, and am now an active volunteer within my local community, delivering first line treatment for 999 'life threatening' calls, prior to the 'calvary' (paramedics) arriving. Its an amazing feeling to be giving something back to the community, and helping my neighbours where I live and in the surrounding villages.

I have practised yoga for over two decades and was totally hooked after my very first class. It was a complete revelation! I walked out of that class like I had woken up and seen things clearly for the first time. My whole body felt free, I was relaxed and could not get over how great I felt. I remember going to work the next day and telling a colleague that I felt "big" (in a good way). This feeling was my energy being released to flourish from whatever trapped state it had been in. My passion for yoga grew as did my personal well-being, and in 2005 when I was given an opportunity to teach, I jumped at the chance. I completed my yoga teacher training with The Devon School of Yoga and then went on to qualify as a Yoga Therapist, certified by Real Yoga, in 2012. I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC). I am also a Meditation Teacher, having completed my training with Swami Saradananda. I have attended many short courses and workshops with Yoga Campus, London. These courses have been based around many aspects of yoga, the musculoskeletal system and the "correction" of bodily imbalances, which may be prominent due to general wear and tear or injury. I have also completed courses on restorative and relaxation practices, Pranayama and the history of yoga as well as a short Sanskrit course! I teach several general classes online via Zoom and offer in person or online one or two to one sessions at Sharon Gisbourne Yoga. I also run a specialist online chair based class for those who may need a more adapted approach to yoga. Working therapeutically with people one to one online may not be suitable for all conditions, but if you would like further details see the Yoga Therapy page for more details. I have experience of many styles of yoga and have spent time in India to gain knowledge of these various approaches. I like to apply myself with a holistic and eclectic approach that takes in not only the physical but also the more subtle aspects that yoga has to offer. However, although I always present myself as professionally as possible, I do like to keep everything light hearted and have fun at the same time. I have completed my training with Sheila Whittaker and I am now offering sound therapy in the form of gong baths. These are offered as private sessions and I also run group sessions. Laura is founder and principal of the Nottingham Ballet School. She is an experienced artist, teacher, director, mentor, and choreographer who trained on the BA (Hons) Ballet Education course at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in London. Whilst training, Laura also obtained her Licentiate (LRAD), Associate (ARAD) and Registered Teachers Status (RAD RTS). She began dancing at the tender age of 3 years with Janina Gieralt in Nottingham. Here she was inspired by her teacher and from the age of 10, knew she wanted to be just like Miss Gieralt. Her teachers challenged and motivated Laura to pursue a long term career in Dance Education. Laura has worked in private, public and community dance sectors around London teaching Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Creative dance and Pilates to people of all ages; with a passion to provide access to dance for all. She has also choreographed for many dance productions, both on film and on stage and has worked on live streamed shows, video and photography projects. She has collaborated with many filmmakers, photographers, choreographers and artists on multiple community funded and private projects. Laura is enthusiastic and encourages diversity and creativity in dance; she is a youth mentor working alongside LambethELEVATE, has taught and examined for the worlds first Muslim Ballet School (Grace & Poise) and taught and developed the Associate programme at Marble Hill Dance Studio, alongside dear colleague and mentor Abigail Cova. Laura has also mentored RAD undergraduate students on their teaching placements. Her pupils have gone on to gain places at the Royal Ballet School (White Lodge), Royal Ballet School Junior Associates, Central School of Ballet Associates, Ballet Boost, The BRIT School, Arts Ed., Performers College, Bird College and The Urdang Academy. Whilst studying at the RAD, Laura performed alongside Darcey Bussell, for the Queen and members of the Royal Family, in celebration of Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday. She was also a Soloist dancer with the Semaphore Ballet Company and later went on to be Director of the Company; here she managed, organised events, collaborated with dance artists, choreographed and taught undergraduate dancers studying at the RAD. Laura acknowledges the importance of continued professional development and is delighted to be a student on the MA (Hons) Education (Dance Teaching) at the Royal Academy of Dance. She is also a Founding Partner of The Dance Teacher LLP, a peripatetic dance education service which offers classes across the Midlands, London and Hampshire. With a wealth of experience and ever expanding knowledge of teaching Ballet, Laura looks forward to welcoming and educating the next generation of dancers at the Nottingham Ballet School.

Just like I did… Growing up I always had the sense of not fitting in; I felt different from the rest of my family, and although I didn’t know it then, being an empath from a young age, I found my family dynamics confusing with no affection or expression of emotions or love… sometimes I just wanted the biggest hug or to be told I was loved, but it was never forthcoming and I grew up struggling to understand why. At 14, my parents divorced and I was sent to live with my dad, who I had no real connection with and to add to my anxiety, his new partner took a serious dislike to me, finding her solace in bullying me at every opportunity. These early experiences left me with an overwhelming sense of abandonment and sadness leading me to searching for love and connection in all the wrong places; looking outside of myself for some kind of sign that I was good enough. Of course that led me into further dysfunctional relationships and by the time I was 43 and facing my second divorce, looking to a future of being a single mum, I was harbouring hatred and discontentment inside of myself that had been festering for a long time and projecting this onto those around me, feeling destined to rinse and repeat this cycle for the rest of my life. Looking at my daughter, I knew that I didn’t want to continue this way and I certainly didn’t want to pass these patterns onto her, something had to change and it was down to me to change it.

Living in Dublin at the time, a work-hard play-hard culture had driven my body and mind to the brink and I regularly experienced panic attacks, depression and became quite unwell with an over-active thyroid – my body had had enough. Deep down even then I knew there was another way but felt stuck in my chosen career at the time. A chance conversation one evening in a pub with a friend opened my eyes to the world of holistic therapies like homeopathy, massage and yoga and a different way of being. I began to consider the prospect of honouring my heartfelt desire to help others. However it wasn’t until I fell pregnant with my first child that I found the courage to try a pregnancy massage and join a yoga class, persuaded by the chance that others would be beginning too. Healing myself came first and is an ongoing journey. Returning to Edinburgh that year I continued pregnancy yoga and massage and I have no doubt that both allowed me to sail through the 9 months inspiring me to go on and train as a bodyworker and leave my career in finance behind. I then spent many years working and learning about bodywork and building a successful niche massage practice supporting expectant and post-natal mums and their families. Some say that the average work-span of a massage therapist is 8 years and that certainly was the case for me. Whilst I was and still am hugely passionate about the benefits of positive touch, my body knew otherwise and it was time for a break from treating bodies in such a hands-on way. This realisation coincided with an opportunity to step back into employment for a while and I spent 3 fantastic years working for Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery founded by Cathy Bache. The chance to step into such a fabulous social enterprise was a true gift and allowed my deep love of Nature, which had been lost along the way, to resurface. I had the privilege to take part in a deep nature connection program called Art of Mentoring in 2014 and went on to train as a Forest Schools Practitioner and support young children in their free explorations of natural world. At that time, along with Nature, yoga was the biggest source of support in my life, emotionally, mentally and physically. I returned time and time again to the refuge of my mat to ease the physical and emotional stresses of parenting and life. In 2013, I had the privilege of doing my Foundation Yoga Training with Marc Woolford of Acquaviva Yoga. This year of training based around Marc’s interpretation of the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli really laid the foundations of my daily yoga practice and greatly influenced the style of my teaching today which is gentle yet deep, somatic and very mindful. In 2015 the conditions finally felt right for me to progress onto a full Teacher Training Diploma with Yoga Scotland, one of the most thorough and diverse qualifications in the UK. The loss of a dear friend that year and the deep grieving that unleashed became a transformational stage for me and gave me the push that I needed to step up and allow the Yoga teachings that had supported me so much over the years to be passed on to others. I completed the 2 year (500 hour) course in June 2017 and I'm now living and breathing Yoga and bringing my blend of the teachings out into my local community.
