London Lit Lab

london lit lab

We believe writers can learn a huge amount from each other. We set up London Lit Lab to share our writerly experience, knowledge and inspiration with up-and-coming writers. Since 2016, we have been designing and teaching our own London Lit Lab courses, and mentoring writers of both fiction and non-fiction. We also teach creative writing courses at other organisations including the British Library, Riba, Mslexia, Arvon Foundation, St Mungo’s, Bath Spa and Birkbeck universities, Writers & Artists and Google. Lily Dunn Lily Dunn is an author, mentor and creative writing teacher. Her first novel, Shadowing the Sun, was published by Portobello Books and her debut nonfiction, Sins of My Father, A Daughter, A Cult, A Wild Unravelling, a memoir about the legacy of her father’s addictions, was published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in March 2022. You can find her personal essays in Granta, Hinterland, MIR Online, The Real Story and Litro, and she is a regular writer for Aeon. She is in her final writing up year of her doctorate at Birkbeck, University of London, and is interested in how to integrate the therapeutic power of writing with literature. She is co-editor of A Wild and Precious Life, Addiction, physical and mental illness and its aftermath: a collection of stories and poetry from writers in recovery, due to be published by Unbound in May 2021. She teaches creative writing at Bath Spa University and co-runs London Lit Lab. She also has experience teaching marginalised groups, specifically those in recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol. ‘Lily’s memoir course was first rate. I’ve attended other courses, but this has been by far the best!’ Eva ‘Lily has helped me uncover an unstoppable and undeniable urge to navigate and plot a course through my memories.’ Mia ‘Lily Dunn was exceptional. She knows her material well and delivered it confidently and in accessible chunks to a diverse group of writers and learners. I would do a continuation of this course if one were to be made available.’ James ‘I would like to thank Lily for being such a wonderful giving person and tutor. I really felt that she held the space well for the participants, which is so important considering the nature of the course. Lily was brilliant.’ Denise

Woodhouse College

woodhouse college

The mission of Woodhouse College is to be an inspirational and nurturing community that is committed to excellence and equips high-achieving, ambitious students with the skills to thrive on their preferred university course and in the wider world of work.' Woodhouse College is a popular and oversubscribed sixth form college in Barnet teaching A level courses to around 1500 students aged 16 –18 years, who join us from over 180 different schools across North London. From 1st January 2021, following academisation, Woodhouse College became part of Frontier Learning Trust. Our students are high-achieving and hard-working. They have done well at GCSE and aim to do likewise at A level. Almost all go on to university. The college acts as a bridge from school to university, giving students a chance to grow in confidence and to develop independent learning skills. All of our students study A levels. We offer a wide range of subjects, and students can study them in almost any combination. Each A level has five hours of lessons per week and along with the A levels taken students are expected to attend a tutorial programme to support them in acquiring the skills to thrive at university and beyond. In addition, we offer a number of super and extra curricular opportunities along with experiences of the work place. Woodhouse is one of the leading places to study A levels in London. Our consistently high performance in exam results backs this up. The government recognises us as one of a small number of colleges with both Beacon Status and Ofsted Outstanding status. Our A*–B pass rates consistently place us in the top five sixth form colleges nationally. The college boasts some of the best facilities in the area and promotes an extensive recreational and academic enrichment programme. At our heart is an impressive pastoral care system, and our tutorial, guidance and support systems help students steer a safe course through A levels and beyond. Our combination of expert teaching staff and an ambitious, supportive approach has proved very successful. We provide a happy, trusting and caring environment where students can challenge themselves and explore a whole range of opportunities. Woodhouse is as much about personal growth as it is about exam success. Our students are ambitious: they embrace the challenge to be the best they can be, both inside and outside the classroom.

We believe in building a real and lasting sense of community and belonging – we are proud of being an especially welcoming school. Feeling safe and developing positive and trusting relationships are key to our students’ success. Securing our students’ wellbeing and positive mental health is central to our provision. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach in meeting the needs of our students and each individual is following their own personalised programme. We place special emphasis on partnership working (with parents, other professionals, Local Authorities, business / industry and the local community). Everything we do is designed to ensure positive & successful adult life chances for our students (not just ‘next steps’). The school is located in 21 acres of peaceful and beautiful woodland and we are proud of the high quality and well maintained learning environment we have created, including many specialist resources and teaching areas. Driving lessons Haslemere, Chiddingfold, Witley, Milford, Godalming, Guildford, Structured, fun, fast progress that saves money!I have lived in the local area since 1985 and in Haslemere for the past 12 years, so I know the roads very well and the test routes too, not that we keep just to those roads as when you pass your test, you will need to be well equipped to deal with any roads and different traffic conditions Here is what some of our Haslemere pupils have said about my instruction after passing their practical driving test Holly Shellard of Fernhurst, Haslemere ‘I could not have asked for a better driving instructor than Andrew! Driving did not come easily to me, but Andrew throughout remained calm, encouraging and supporting. He prepared me for the exam and everyday driving for once I had passed making me a confident and safe driver. I would highly recommend him to anyone and it’s definitely an A* driving school!! Thanks Andrew! ‘ Josh Terry of Haslemere “Andrew was a great driving instructor, although he was very thorough and knew all the techniques I would say the greatest feature Andrew had was the determination to get me to pass the test. I hated the driving test experience, and sometimes I thought that I was never going to pass however, Andrew made this experience a lot less stressful than it could have been; he was always up for giving a last minute lesson at short notice and would make sure that you understood every detail when driving so that I could do things confidently. All in all a great driving instructor, also good value for money as I passed with just 28 hours of lesson time. Thank you”. Euan Middleton of Haslemere ‘Andrew was a great instructor, always helpful and patient. His style of teaching kept me calm, and his teaching of manoeuvres was especially good. I would really recommend Andrew to anyone who needs a good instructor, no matter what level you’re at!’ Huw David of Haslemere “Thanks for all the help Andrew. I grew much more confident as the lessons went by and thanks for sticking with me, and its given me a massive boost for my last couple of exams so Cheers!!” Scarlett Hawkins of Lurgeshall, Haslemere “Thank you for helping me pass first time, Andrew has made me a confident driver
