In this new course you will design and make your own painted stained glass panel. You will be able to make larger and more complex work under the supervision of Richard Paton with over 30 years experience.&nbsp;Richard will guide you through all the traditional techniques of designing, glass cutting, glass painting and assembly of your unique stained glass panel. You will be able to take your stained glass away with you and fit it into an existing window or have it mounted into a Lightbox. The size of the stained glass window can be anything up to a maximum of 80cm x 50cm. You will have the opportunity to discuss your design idea in advance unless you prefer to adapt an existing design.&nbsp;This is a unique and inspiring class, it will cover a lot of ground and give you the skills needed to continue making stained glass as a creative hobby or perhaps a new way to provide an income.Areas covered in this course:&bull; Scaling up a design idea to a working pattern&bull; Glass cutting and diamond grinding tools&bull; Kiln fired glass painting technique: types of vitreous paint, mixing mediums, glass painting brushes, types of glass kiln and firing schedules&bull; Introduction to various leading tools, types of lead, solder and the various soldering irons&nbsp;&bull; Sealing the glass in the lead with leading cement making it weatherproof &amp; lead polishing&bull; An introduction to the history of stained glass and other glass techniques used. In this workshop you&rsquo;ll learn all about printing with traditional materials, in the same way that books and newspapers were originally printed with vintage metal and wood type.&nbsp;

Choose to make greetings cards, postcards or bookmarks with your own personalised message. You may want to bring along a short quote or sentiment, a sentence is perfect, but we&rsquo;ll have plenty of ideas on hand to inspire you too.

You&rsquo;ll set your chosen metal type and print it on one of our Adana tabletop presses. These portable machines are perfect for the hobby printer and a great way to get started in letterpress printing. We&rsquo;ll show you the basics of how to set the press up for printing, how to register your print perfectly and how to clean everything down at the end of the session.&nbsp;

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh&rsquo;s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.&nbsp;
All the equipment and materials you will need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise, plus light refreshments (a selection of Shibui teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet or savoury snacks). On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out; or there are a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, caf&eacute;s, and restaurants, plus supermarkets, within a 5-10 minute walk.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. The workshop space is in our home which is&nbsp;not&nbsp;nut free. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies before booking.
Private classes
Most of our workshops are also available to book for small private get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; corporate team building and well-being purposes; and as in-store retail events.  This course is designed to get you up and running with the fundamentals and the working of Apache Kafka with the help of practical examples. You will also delve into client API programming in Java. As you progress, you will not only cover the Apache Kafka stack, but also the architecture of Kafka components and Kafka client APIs (Producers and Consumers). This course is based on Apache Kafka 2.x. All the source code and examples used in this course on Apache Kafka 2.3 open-source distribution have been tested. The course will focus on the Confluent Community Version to explain and demonstrate functionalities that are only available in the Confluent Platform, such as Schema Registry and Avro Serdes.

When she was an editor Louise published the hit Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll and would love to represent incisive, intelligent suspense written by authors such as Jessica Knoll and Gillian Flynn, or something a little more subversive and blackly comic like My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.
More generally, Louise would also love to see novels with a disabled protagonist or someone (like myself) who is living with an invisible disability. Lil is an editor with over 15 years experience in the publishing industry. She’s currently freelancing and is in direct contact with many of the big publishing houses: Hachette, Bonnier Books, and book packager, Working Partners Ltd, among others. She also works with the Caroline Wakeman Literary Agency, assessing their authors’ work for commercial viability, as well as scouting for new talent.
For twelve years, Lil was a Senior Commissioning Editor at Working Partners Ltd – the creatives behind massive commercial hits such as Beast Quest, Warriors and the Daisy Meadows series. There she created globally successful concepts for every age group and developed storylines so the books were unputdownable. 
Lil is also an author in her own right: she has written 6 books under her own name, and ghost written many others under various pseudonyms. 
In every age level, Lil would like to see originality - particularly in voice. A strong character with depth, venturing on a quest that's never been undertaken before will get her excited. The 'quest' doesn't have to be epic in scale, it could be as small as petting the next-door neighbour's dog, or getting the good looking new kid to notice you, it just has to be something a reader will want to invest in. She also loves humour and is happy to see anything quirky (perhaps even downright silly!).

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION
Rachel Neely began her publishing career in 2016 at HarperCollins, before moving to Hachette where she worked as an editor for the next six years, specialising in crime and thrillers along with book club novels and contemporary fiction, most recently as a Commissioning Editor at Orion. 
Rachel joined Mushens Entertainment at the start of 2022 as an Associate Agent, assisting Juliet Mushens with her client list, including multiple Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling authors. Simultaneously she began signing her own clients. In August 2023 she was promoted to Literary Agent and is actively growing her list, looking for book-club fiction, dark academia, rom-coms, tragic love stories, crime and thrillers. Please note she is not the right agent for sci-fi, espionage novels, YA or children’s books. 
She signs both commercial and literary authors, and is always looking for a distinctive voice matched with a compelling plot. She also is especially drawn to darker stories that centre characters with tragic fates, dark pasts or buried trauma. She would love to see a commercial locked-room thriller in the vein of The Midnight Feast, The White Lotus or with shades of Succession; novels about cults such as The Girls; a voice-led serial-killer thriller reminiscent of How to Kill Your Family; compelling dark academia to rival The Secret History; a high-concept but tragic love story that will make her ugly cry in the vein of The Time Traveller’s Wife or One Day; and anything that has an outsider trying to break into the world of the privileged and morally bankrupt.
Besides those above, her favourite novels include The List, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Lovely Bones, Other People’s Clothes, The It Girl, The Girl Before, Notes on an Execution, My Dark Vanessa and My Sister the Serial Killer.
