The Birmingham Medical Institute (BMI) was founded in 1875 as a membership organization to provide a meeting place and medical library for the medical profession in Birmingham and the surrounding area. Its location moved from various sites in the city to 36, Harborne Road in 1957. Here it was joined by the West Midlands Regional office of the BMA and Local Medical Committee. It was initially a Library, then a Social Club but in 2009 became the BMI Conference Centre. Much of the activity was based upon the requirements of outside organisations for meetings, conferences and catering. From January 2016 the BMI relocated to the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. It follows, that instead of administering a building hired for the conduct of meetings etc, the activity will be solely the organisation of meetings. Coincident with this move is the change in medical postgraduate education based upon Health Education, England. There will therefore be an even greater need for the smaller medical organisations to be brought together, a role that the BMI is well placed to fulfil. In order to accomplish its mission its future activity will be concentrated upon Primary care and Public Health because secondary care education is now largely organised nationally by the Royal Colleges and Specialty Societies. I completed my UK pilates training and certification with Body Control Pilates (BCP) in 2000, BCP is one of the leading education providers for Pilates teacher training and the most significant professional Pilates organisation outside the USA. I established Pilates in Dulwich in the same year. Committed to my ongoing development, I also undertook advanced studies at Kane School of Core Integration in New York under the tutelage and mentorship of Kelly Kane, one of the most highly regarded and experienced Pilates educators and therapists in the USA. In 2009 I qualified as an osteopath, and completed extensive postgraduate studies including cranial and classical osteopathy, women’s health and training in paediatrics at the world famous Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy in London (aka Osteopathic Centre for Children – OCC). My extended pilates clinical work is influenced by all of these factors some of which have organically integrated into my current evolving non-purist practice, which is underpinned by comprehensive training and certification, and lifelong professional development. I have worked in several highly regarded London clinics to enhance my practice and established my own osteopathic practice to compliment my existing Pilates work. I currently divide my time between private osteopathic practice, teaching Pilates, running community-based first aid training, clinical tutoring, developing, writing and delivering specialist lectures/workshops/courses and completing heaps of continual professional development (CPD) each year.

Adult Dyslexia Consulting Ltd was founded by Sally-Ann Morrison with the aim of making assessments for adults more accessible. She has worked in this field for more than 20 years and holds a Masters degree in Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis and Support (ADDS). After completing a degree in Linguistics (York), she worked in adult education and was the Dyslexia Co-ordinator at a large FE college for ten years, simultaneously delivering the Postgraduate Diploma in ADDS for London South Bank University in the North West of England. Following her role as Senior Lecturer on an AMBDA accredited Pg Cert programme, she founded ADC Ltd, and works as an independent SpLD assessor and trainer. The majority of her SpLD assessment work is with FE and HE students, and she also provides specialist tuition and workplace assessment and training. Sally-Ann is a member of the Patoss APC Review team and holds a current Assessment Practising Certificate. All assessments are undertaken under the guidelines issued by the Spld Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). Sally-Ann is fully insured and quality assured. I trained as, and still am, a graphic designer. That bold graphic style comes out in my glass work, but the reason I took up glass was for a creative break from the computer, and to do a practical craft. What I couldn't have foreseen when I took up what I thought would be a little hobby, is how addictive glass is! The day I did a brief taster session I was hooked. Three years later I had completed a postgraduate certificate in Glass and Fine Art at Central St Martins in London, followed by the same qualification again, this time in Glass and Architecture. Those courses and the wonderful tutors taught me a wide range of glass skills, brought me some of the most creative moments of my life, and gave me a group of friends who shared this love of glass, and whom I would later exhibit with as 'Teepee Glass'. As a result I have been fortunate to exhibit in some amazing places, and have completed commissions small and large for a variety of customers. I am passionate about resilience and helping people understand how important resilience is in our lives. I studied with some of the leading international experts working to promote resilience. For the last 5 years I have been actively promoting resilience with individuals, families, organisations and communities. I had spent many years working in the field of positive psychology and therapy and it was here in Barcelona that I discovered the world of resilience and was lucky enough to attend the first post graduate course in the Promotion of Resilience at the University of Barcelona. This allowed me to meet and learn from leading figures in Resilience work in Europe and Latin America and the most generous teachers. I also studied a postgraduate diploma in mental health and migration. Moving around can bring opportunity but also challenges. I have lived in many countries and met a lot of diverse and truly inspiring people in different cultures and languages. Living an international life can feel like an amazing adventure but also comes with its challenges and I have worked with many individuals and families over the years helping them to find their feet again. Life experience, literature, music and films have always fed my resilience work but I have been studying and researching along the way to back up my instincts with analysis and ideas based on theory and practice.
