The RYA Competent Crew course is aimed at beginners to the world of sailing, with little or no experience, who want to become active crew members rather than just passengers. After the course, you will be able to steer a yacht, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in the day-to-day routines of sailing a yacht as well as rope handling and general duties. No age limit. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. To take this course, you must have completed at least 5 days, 100 miles and 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht, and must be 16 or older. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. We normally sail with 1:4 Check Dates And Availability IMG_3247.JPG RYA Coastal Skipper Or Yachtmaster Offshore Prep The RYA Coastal Skipper practical course is aimed at yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation who are wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. After this course, you will have the confidence to skipper a yacht on a coastal passage by day or night. Or if completing the Yachtmaster Offshore prep you will arrange with the school to book a RYA Examiner to take the 8/10 hour practical exam soon afterwards. To take this course(Coastal) you will have completed at least 15 days, 300 miles, 8 night hours and 2 days as skipper on board a sailing yacht, and must be 17 for Coastal and 18 for Yachtmaster Offshore for which you will need 2500 miles and three skippered passages over 60 miles plus 50 night hours. 5 Day Sailing Course - £695 RYA Instructor/Student Ratio max 1:5. This course is a requirement for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. Materials supplied. VHF book and exam paper. Great and necessary course for anyone working with young people. Cheryl is an excellent instructor. Thank you! Excellent use of personal stories to help use as examples to explain the different types of mental health. Cheryl was patient and supportive with technical glitches. Useful having her phone number to text. Cheryl was knowledgeable and gave us confidence in our approach to a young person in crisis in the way we can try to help and support them. The course was informative, and I found the individual learning actives and tasks accompanied with the teaching worked extremely well. The videos provided were engaging and remained focussed on the topic. I particularly felt Cheryl dealt with some of the topics that were difficult, with a high level of sensitivity and care. There was briefing prior to some of the topics. I would have possibly liked a debrief however I believed the course was excellent and I feel it will be so important for my organisation in supporting with our service users. It has now prompted me to continue further learning around mental health and building on what I have learnt from the course. Thanks to Cheryl again for her delivery of the course and demonstrating her passion. Really enjoyable and engaging course...really useful for me going forward The course is very good at highlighting all the different aspects of mental health. it doesn't just talk about depression but all the other areas that affect young people. Camp Crusoe is the quintessentially British summer camp experience where campers feel connected, valued, challenged, and supported. We take having fun incredibly seriously and believe that as modern childhood is all too short we must help our kids make the most of every moment of it. While school work is a vital part of our children’s development, so too is holiday time: Camp Crusoe is very much a fun and adventurous camp and not a summer school! We are the perfect size. There are plenty of opportunities to make new friends with no more than 80 campers per session. We know every camper by name, what interests them, if they need extra support or just an open stage to shine. Over the course of camp, community bonds are forged that last well after campers return home, sometimes a lifetime. Having seen first hand how our American cousins get it so right when it comes to summer camps, we feel it is essential that every child has the opportunity to get away from home each year and enjoy a new environment, testing themselves, trying new things and making new friends, all while having fun in the great outdoors. Too much time seems to be spent cooped up with electronic gadgetry of one sort or another when there is so much fun to be had outdoors, playing with other kids in a safe and controlled setting. Our extensive program of activities from water-sports to drama, archery to photography, appeal to every type of child, offering the opportunity for each camper to grow in confidence, improve their decision making skills and maybe discover a new lifelong hobby. We don’t try to cram too much in and allow just the right amount of time for campers to hangout, make new friends and play together. We are a small, independent camp run by a close-knit team of friends and family who are committed to enriching children’s lives. The core group have many years experience working with children both on summer camps and in the classroom, and are supported by a highly trained and motivated team of camp counsellors, many of whom have worked at camp before and are planning a career working with children. Camp Crusoe is about allowing children the time and space to be exactly that - children. Fun and personal development is our ultimate aim, but we also know from experience how much children learn at camp, both about themselves and about being part of something larger than them. Characters was set up in November 2010 by Moira Townsend Williams to provide opportunities for children and young people to obtain a performance arts training with a creative ethos. Moira is a producer and writer living in Bradford on Avon, who has also been a professional actor, (trained at Guildford School of Acting) as well as a casting director and theatrical agent. Besides producing shows for Characters, she has produced 15 live shows of her own show The Casting Couch in London’s West End and a TV pilot for Channel 4, and various other film and theatre projects including the launch for Salisbury based Women’s Theatre JUNO. Characters employs teachers and directors who are also working in the industry so that the experience your child receives is always relevant and up-to-date. Current members of the team include Maria Finlay, who has many London acting credits, who teaches and directs our Saturday Stage School at The Arc as well as Little Characters, and Trinity Exam groups, Emma Tierney who teaches/directs our Bath Characters classes, and Megan Ashton who runs our Little Characters group. Past teachers and directors have included Leanne Copley, choreographer and performance arts teacher from St Brendan’s Sixth Form College who headed up the recent partnership with St Brendan's Performance Arts Academy, as well as Tillie Bolton who now runs her own Theatre School TSPA in Bristol. Our Stage Company, which devises new plays for performance, was in 2017 led by award-winning Bristol director Dave Lovatt and Musical Director Helen Temmink. Past workshops have been led by many well known industry professionals including Penelope Wildgoose, a Stroud based award-winning actor/director, David Bond, head of performance at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Sophie Jacobs-Wyburn, who now runs The egg youth theatre in Bath,David Lane, a leading Bristol based director and dramaturge, and Tom Wainwright, who was recently writer in residence at Bristol Old Vic. The vision of Characters is to provide a training that as closely as possible emulates a drama school training, adapted for the various age groups. This not only gives participants a solid foundation in techniques and skills, should they wish to pursue a career in performance arts later on in life, but also develops team building, confidence and self-esteem which are all key to a child’s personal development and happiness – whatever they do in life. Because we are not a franchise, we can keep our fees affordable, and we will always work with parents to swop skills for fees so that our classes are accessible to all.

Whether you're an absolute beginner wanting to learn how to draw and paint, or an amateur artist looking to improve their skills, art classes are a great way to gain confidence in producing beautiful pieces of artwork. Regular fortnightly classes are held in an informal, friendly and supportive environment, with everyone able to work on their own individual paintings and drawings with detailed tuition from professional artist and tutor Chloe O'Neil.  A wide range of materials are used including watercolours, coloured pencils and pastels on a selection of different subjects - the choice is yours! A selection of quality materials are provided for you to use during the class so you don't need to bring anything with you, but you're also welcome to bring along your own if you'd like advice or guidance on how to get the most out of them. It’s a fantastic fun way of meeting like minded adults and having a relaxing time whilst learning new tips and techniques.
