Our ARC model has previously been accredited by BILD since 2017, and more recently achieved Restraint Reduction Network Approved Certification status through the British Institute of Learning Disabilities – Association of Certified Training (BILD ACT) in March 2020, therefore fully complying with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2020. Our aim is to offer personalised support to each learner to develop confidence and competence in their role, enabling them to empower the people they support in a positive way. We promote positive attitudes and values that are consistent with ‘social inclusion’ and Positive Behavioural Support Principles (PBSP). B-inspired aims to support staff working in Health & Social Care and Educational settings to develop skills and knowledge in relation to supporting children and adults who have complex support needs associated with Learning Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Condition, Dementia, Acquired Brain Injury and Mental Health. B-Inspired offers learners and their employers the support and reassurance necessary to protect themselves in a safe and appropriate manner in the workplace. We encourage learners and their employers to evaluate challenging situations with consideration to ethical and legal frameworks. Our training places a strong emphasis on Positive Behaviour Support and the principles of ‘proactive support’, ‘least restrictive’, and ‘last resort’ strategies.

Who We Are & Where We Are High Peak School is part of the Kedleston Group and opened in 2014.Our specialist multi-disciplinary team of leaders, carers, therapists and educationalists work seamlessly together. They teach and proactively support pupils who have been subjected to adverse childhood experiences, including trauma, toxic stress and associated mental wellbeing difficulties, aiming to break the cycle of adversity. Children and young people may also come to us because they are challenged by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and dyspraxia or moderate and specific learning difficulties. We have a specific provision within the school called the Quiet Learning Zone where we support children and young people who have an autistic spectrum condition including Asperger’s syndrome and those who have communication and sensory difficulties. The environment and teaching approaches are bespoke and tailored to ensure our children and young people thrive and can develop their self-esteem. We have extensive experience of supporting those with attachment disorders or those who have been victims of abuse and neglect. Over the course of an eighteen-year career in the English Language teaching world, I have developed a style and understanding which allows me to engage learners of all levels, styles and needs and across all age ranges. Working in both multilingual and monolingual environments in a number of countries has given me a broad spectrum of experience to draw upon when trying to understand the requirements of a learner and also the difficulties they experience during their English Language journey. More recently, I have worked in product design, development and delivery. Starting from the ground level of conception based on the needs of a specific course or group allows you to see how content must fit both the learners involved and the end result required. It has also given me the unique opportunity to deliver the course and continue to make adjustments to provide the students with the best possible experience and outcome. A number of these products also have London as a focal point. This has meant integrating the city into the language learning. After years spent living and working in the capital and visiting many of its sights, using London as a source of the lessons and the activities has given me an even greater understanding of the capital and the wonders it possesses.

Chris Barson founded Positive About Autism in January 2009. Prior to that Chris was External Training Manager for the National Autistic Society. Chris has a long involvement with disability and autism. After studying drama at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff he started out as a drama tutor with Arts for Disabled People in Wales. Chris trained as a learning disabilities Nurse at University Hospital Wales. After qualifying Chris became a Community Nurse for people with learning disabilities. Moving from Community Nursing into a specialist setting, Chris gained experience in intensive support for people who present a severe challenge to services. Chris first joined the National Autistic Society (NAS) in 1996 as a Project Officer in Wales on a Children in Need project reviewing short term care provision. After working with the NAS Regional Development Team promoting service development throughout the UK. Chris went to work at the Royal College of General Practitioners, in 2000, where he managed Professional Development and Quality programmes. Chris rejoined NAS in 2004.Chris has contributed to the design and delivery of courses provided by Canterbury Christ Church University, and University of Cumbria. Chris is a contributing author to ‘The Autism Spectrum in the 21st Century:Exploring Psychology, Biology and Practice’ Jessica Kingsley Press 2010 (Highly Commended 2011 BMA Medical Book Awards)
