K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery is the ideal place for those who want to develop their jewellery design and making skills, whilst stepping outside of mainstream boundaries and thinking critically about the creative process. Our students learn new skills and traditional jewellery techniques whilst experimenting with a variety of different materials, including base and precious metals, gemstones as well as unconventional recycling materials and found objects. In addition, we introduce them to the professional jewellery industry by teaching business skills. Classes are taught in small groups of no more than 10 students, enabling you to spend quality time with your tutors. K2 offers a comprehensive programme of all-level jewellery courses, creative short courses, masterclasses and SQA accredited diploma courses   DEDICATED TUTORS DELIVERING QUALITY TRAINING. K2 Academy was established and is directed by jewellery artists and tutors Kelvin J Birk and Katrin Spranger, both of whom have 20+ years of experience in goldsmithing, metal work and tutoring. They are dedicated to sharing their extensive knowledge.   The students benefit from K2’s central London location, close to Hatton Garden’s jewellery quarter and the Goldsmiths’ Assay Office. K2 is based within Cockpit Arts, a thriving community of professional design and craft businesses, which includes renowned contemporary practitioners. Gorsefield Primary School is a large, urban community primary school, serving the area of Radcliffe (Bury, Manchester). The school was sponsored by Forward as One CE Academy Trust in April 2015. Gorsefield’s mission is to INSPIRE, CHALLENGE, EXCEL: to inspire and challenge all children and adults to excel in everything they do. The two-form entry school is situated in an area of very high deprivation, so children enter the school with very low socio-economic status and significant life challenges to be overcome. Mobility is extremely high. There are currently 23 different languages spoken at Gorsefield. The proportion of pupils who are disadvantaged is significantly higher than the national average, as is the proportion of pupils with an education, health and care plan (EHCP). The school is a UNICEF Rights Respecting (Silver) school. Gorsefield Primary School provides an environment in which all children and adults, including the community, are able to flourish socially, emotionally and academically. As a school, we make no assumptions when children enter our school. We just set the ambition.’ Thus setting all children up to succeed. We work with BLESMA, SSAFA ROYAL, BRITISH LEGION plus others, that include people with Autism and Aspergers.   (this is NOT a boot camp), non-military instructors and guest blacksmiths.  All are welcome. We have 1 to 3 plus instructors on-site to support you.

The Bike Station refurbished and recycles used bikes for our communities, in hopes of making Scotland a great place to cycle.The Bike Station’s mission is to develop environmentally sustainable communities by empowering people to have greater freedom of movement. Our Programmes support healthier, happier and more affordable journeys. Using bicycles as a vehicle for social change is at the heart of everything we do. Our bikes play a vital part in providing an affordable and reliable means of transport, helping contribute to an individual’s personal and financial wellbeing. Annually we save over 10,000 bikes a year from landfill and provide over 2,500 people with affordable refurbished bicycles. Our community activity is well established, and across our programmes we enable greater: Access to affordable bikes Mental health and confidence building Skills development and pathways to employment Our diverse team of mechanics and volunteers refurbish bicycles, which become the foundation for our community activities. The bikes not used for communities work are for sale in our shops. We work with a range of communities, including youth groups. employability charities, all-ability cycling groups, prisons, universities, nurseries and workplaces. The Bike Station is a registered charity, regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

We are part of Portsmouth City Councils Employment, Learning and Skills service. We are fully externally funded with the main source of funding being the contribution which comes through our contract with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) which we seek to supplement though other sources, such as The Good Things Foundations UK Online Centres. This means that we are able to provide certain courses free of charge, others at heavily subsidised rates and offer reduced fees for those on means tested benefits – see our Curriculum Strategy and Fees Policy for more information. We operate from our purpose built centre; The Learning Place, 6 Derby Road, North End, in Nelson ward and you are welcome to drop-in and see us to find out more. The centre core opening times are 9.00 – 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and to 15.45 Fridays. Our aim is to provide high quality learning experiences for adults living and working in and around Portsmouth. All teaching staff are trained to teach adults, with appropriate additional subject specialism qualifications and are required to complete annual training / professional development. We understand that for some, learning supports leisure and for others it builds capacity and skills, enabling them to get back to work, take a greater role in their community or better support their childrens learning. We therefore try to provide a responsive programme which maximises access to community learning for adults, bringing new opportunities and improving lives, whatever people’s circumstances, such as: Qualification based courses supporting readiness to work / employability including: Functional Skills English, maths and ICT from entry levels up to level 2 Food Safety in Catering Apprenticeships for those aged 16+ New accredited courses are being run regularly. The programme is subject to change and some courses with certain eligibility requirements are not always advertised on our website. We only have a limited budget but we do look to prioritise its use to meet identified demand, so tell us what you would like to learn and why! Many of our programmes can also be delivered in a range of venues, so if you represent a community or organisation and are interested in hosting some courses, let us know that too! In addition to the courses we deliver, a small proportion of our funding is allocated to enable quality contracted providers to be engaged, through a robust procurement process, resulting in a broader community reach. In 2021/22 our current key areas for development are: Work readiness, pre-employment skills including increased business / employer links internally and externally, to particularly support the ongoing development of Apprenticeship programmes. Digital inclusion: continuing to offer IT provision and seeking to use innovative solutions to support those who remain digitally excluded to engage with computers and the internet Health and Wellbeing: further developing the increasingly well documented links between learning, health and wellbeing. Through an official crowdfunding campaign, we are trying to raise £10,000 so we can install solar panels. This will reduce our carbon footprint and fuel costs – so we can focus on training lifeguards and beach safety. Did you know our volunteers provided 500+ hours of beach and water safety cover in 2022,Crowdfunding this project builds wider community support for the club and provides us the opportunity to access further match funds to the project. We have been in discussion with Cornwall Council who are looking to support this project as part of their work supporting communities to reach net zero by 2030, and installing renewable energy in the county. In the long term, all these measures will help reduce our energy costs and improve the operation of the clubhouse, meaning we can focus more of our efforts on future activities for the community – supporting health and wellbeing, developing life saving skills, and awareness of the beach coastal environment.
