Community Literacy Centers, Inc. (CLC) 501 (c)(3) is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1987 by judges, educators, attorneys and citizens in Oklahoma County who acknowledged the benefits of a more literate society. In 1997, CLC established and implemented the LEAP (Learning, Enriching, Achieving, Preparing) program which now serves as the foundation for all CLC services. Through LEAP, cooperative partnerships are formed with various Oklahoma County agencies to provide literacy services to agency clients and adults (18 years of age or older) in the surrounding community. Classes are typically conducted at partner sites, however, some classes are currently taught virtually via Zoom. CLC classes include Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), U.S. Citizenship and/or High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction. Workplace Learning Solutions (WLS) and Tutor Training are also encompassed within the LEAP program. OUR VISION Our vision is to change lives by increasing awareness of the benefits of a more literate community and providing a welcoming environment where every adult who wants to read has an opportunity to learn. WHAT WE DO CLC provides free classroom instruction to approximately 1,000 adults in the metropolitan area each year; volunteer tutors are available in the classroom for students who need additional support. CLC instructors cultivate a supportive, nurturing classroom environment in which to foster learning and positively impact the lives of our students. CLC administers assessments and surveys at regular intervals to monitor student progress and needs; CLC adult learners come from varied backgrounds and skill levels.

At Ruskin Road Repair Cafe, we are committed to working with people to help them develop the skills to repair rather than replace broken or faulty consumer products, and keep them out of landfill. When you bring in an item which does not require professional expertise to safely fix, volunteer fixers will work with you to repair or maintain it, offering as much explanation or support as is necessary so that you can develop the confidence to try and fix the item yourself if it breaks again. Of course you are always welcome to come back again for more help! At a Repair Café there are the tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, toys, et cetera. And there are also repair specialists such as electricians, seamstresses, carpenters and bicycle mechanics. Visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with the specialists they start making their repairs in the Repair Café. It’s an ongoing learning process. If you have nothing to repair, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Or you can lend a hand with someone else’s repair job. The Repair Café teaches people to see their possessions in a new light. And, once again, to appreciate their value. The Repair Café helps change people’s mindset. This is essential to kindle people’s enthusiasm for a sustainable society. But most of all, the Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is.

Pratik Hande Co-Founder | Chief Agile Evangelist Pratik had a seemingly cliched journey from an Engineer in India to an MBA grad in Boston. He believes in the spirituality of agile which makes him the evangelist of the philosophies to customize and adapt them for specific opportunities. Learning Trios take place on Wednesday and Friday – if you need to change your appointment, please call the school office to do so. We will be discussing previous targets and setting new targets. Gentle reminder that each appointment is 15 minutes. Homework (only reading this week!) Reading: Children will bring their book in their book bag and the pages to be read will be written in their green reading record. Please sign this to evidence reading has been completed. Some children will come home with a little slip of green words, these words should be learned to support their progress in reading. P.E – Wednesday with Miss Simpson and Thursday with Mrs Lynch. Lots of children still don’t have a P.E. kit, it is so important all children bring a P.E. kit for these times. The children will be a lot more comfortable for their lesson and they are learning to dress themselves independently. Maths/Numeracy: We are learning ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd etc) and making amounts up to 10p, using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. Literacy: We have finished learning all of our P1 sounds and we are now working on writing sentences independently. Topic: We have been learning about the seasons, especially Winter, and we are going to start our new topic ‘Weather’. *We would like to make a P1 Family wall display in the classroom. Please hand in or email me any photos of your child with you all, we would love to make a lovely display in our class.*

Since I was a child I have always had a passion for helping people, I would help the kids in the street and elderly people where I lived and then when I grew up and married I studied and practised Reiki on people with the hope and prayer that the Universe would work its unimaginable power through me for the good of all. I studied reiki in India as well as in the U.K. over twenty years ago. Fast forward to present day and I’m now in a profession that does exactly what I have always hoped for.
